Mark & Helen,
I assume that the handle "Black Darlek" has been reserved for you on SH smile and I trust we will be seeing you here often.
It goes without saying that you're idea for the site was an excellent one. I do understand how these "hobbies" can get a life of their own.
I hope we will still see you both at the various Munches, get to togethers etc.
I wish you, Helen and your family all the very best.
I know what the following does and if you've used the Avatar Sizer program you've used it!

Does that make me a real geek?
Accessing the internet via a mobile phone is not cheap! Is this something you really want to do?
Debs, you maybe in luck!

OK who's going to be the first to do a "road test"

wouldn't it be great if we could have some thing connected like that in the cafe...and every time you get a pm or tread you get a vib........mmm nice...........we all could have a mass orgy sort of thing! :bounce:
It could be done, but it'd probably require some reasonably serious coding to implement. You'd need one of these, and a bluetootth dongle for the PC. Theoretically it could also be set up so that every time the chatroom goes ping it goes off

Provided you could get the SDK it could be relatively easy to implement...
Wanders off to Google Bluetooth SDK

I'll give that some more thought

Honest there is one see
OK who's going to be the first to do a "road test" and can I have your number
Grief, The problem with being a codger is that you've seen and done so much. But, being a codger means I can bore the pants off everyone
Used to be able to read braille even though I have (had - getting older) perfect vision (not for the lack of trying lol )
Went to school with an ex England Rugby Captain
Went to school with an ex MP (same year as me)
Went to the school where an ex celebraty used to be House Master (he's now dead)
Went to the same school as a celebraty who died earlier this year (that's two down  )
Was in the school gymnastics team
Was in the school swimming team for 5 years
Used to perform what is probably the most dangerous dive in the world off a 1 metre board
Danced with Pans People :inlove: cool
Been on the Tele and wireless more times than I care to mention
Met loads of celeb's like Charlene Tilton (the poison dwarf from Dallas - she was very, very nice), Barbara Windsor, Rene from "Hello Hello" and many, many more
Looked after the BeeGees (including the youngest) for two nights
Looked after the Stranglers for a night - they played old Beattle's songs on the piano and shagged groupies in the ladies loo - great night. drinkies
Went to a Porno show with an ex MP (the one above) performing were: 2 girls, a black man and a cucumber!! - Remember it well.
Became a member of the mile high club in the early '70s
Introduced Head Banging to a foreign country
Wrote the first ever Shareware Spreadsheet for Windows - it was on the front cover of PC Plus!
I'll bore you with more as I remember - problem with being a codger is that your memory starts to
If I remember correctly, he substantially rewrote it when turning it into MS-DOS (that's probabbly why it isn't as good ;) )
Honest, I couldn't make it up if I tried. See here:
Erm there are over 500 viruses, trojans and worms for the MAC and if you have the Java runtime engine and few hundred thousand more.
We practice safe sex, lets practice safe computing...
For those of you who haven't seen it there is a section in Advice (look at the menu on the left) to try and help you surf safely. The link is:

Having written that some time ago the little buggers have become more crafty and can switch off your Anitvirus and Spyware scanners. So you should always scan your computer in "Safe Mode" with networking switched off and System Restore switched off.
Switch off System Restore in Control Panel>System>System Restore and tick the box.
To go into "safe mode" press the key marked F8 on your keyboard as your computer is booting up (usually a black screen with white blocks running along the bottom). Run your antivirus and spybot checks in (one at a time) and allow them to clean any nasties.
Restart your computer normally and switch System Restore back on.
When I get the brush out of my arse lol , I'll try again get part II written.
I've worn mine every day since I got it (big hugs to Sarah :rose: ) and only one person has asked what it is for. Though I did notice a couple of furtive glances from a rather nice young lady one day but was unable to follow through so to speak
Living in hope someone will acost me in the wild and woolie north lol

Broadband scares me bolt

Bluexxx you can rely on me for that lol
I would have thought very little scares you
Oh, nearly forgot...
If you are going to be playing online games then check the latency as well. Most of the "big boys" have extremely poor latency. I believe Eclipse is one of the best.
Zen offers no contention or bandwith limits on any of its packages and its latency is up there with Eclipse.
A few things to think about...Check the small print for bandwith limits, some ISP can be a bit "Jobs worth" if you go over their limitsCheck contention - if you have 50 to 1 contention on a busy exchange with the other 49 "contended users" downloading films all day and night, your actual connection will be slower than dialup  Check Customer Service - most seriously suck. A good indictation is how they deal with your initial enquiries about Broadband (do they actually phone you back when they say they will?)There's no such thing as a "free lunch". Its cheap for a reason - find out speed can you actually get at your house? It may be that the distance from the exchange is such that you can only get 512/256 or you may be lucky and can get 2mb/256For more information on what their customers think about their ISPs visit the - extremely informative.
The three who are consistantly rated the best by their customers are: Zen ( ), Nildram ( ) and Eclipse ( ).
I'm just about to pick up a Sony A497XP. Its a bit above your price range but is the Mutts Nutts.
Where I live now we have:
Marra - Friend/mateYam - Home - as in "Ower Yam" - our homewe have a road named Finkle StreetWhere my parents came from you also have:Nettie - toilet - as in "wores the nettie hinnie?" (please can you direct me to the wash room)Hinnie - see Marra aboveCannie - pretty as in Cannie Lass, has other meanings depending on the phrasing
I'll see if I can remember some more.
Anyone got one of these:
If so can I have a go controlling it
Try the new Parry Hotter book. Its quite good (some very amusing bits) but only if you've read the other 5.
Or anything by Clancy

A friend of mine was an MP, I know, I know I hang my head in shame... smile He informed me that the main reason the national speed limit on a motorway has remained at 70 mph is to conserve fuel.
The fact that most, if not all, modern cars can handle speeds in excess of the national speed limit is irrelevant. The chances of it being raised to, say, 80 mph while we use hydrocarbons in motor vehicles are nil. We definitely won't meet our carbon emissions targets if it is rolleyes
As to speeding. We've all done it. I think that the issue is where the speeding takes place. It is my opinion that you should travel at a speed appropriate to the road, surroundings and conditions at the time. Speeding near a school or where children etc are present you should be locked up, car crushed, mega fine, retake your test, i.e the book should be thrown at you. On a dry, clear, empty, motorway you shouldn't even be stopped. Unfortunately parts of our society would abuse such a system therefore we have draconian laws.
Jags 10,000 - you really must get a life.
oh shiiiite bolt
 Well done.
Seems to be a Power surge according to the BBC.
Well done everyone involved in getting this up and running. Most impressed.
I'll probably have to wait until October to get mine unless some kind soul can blag one for me...
Great news!!
In another life I used to wear a bow tie every evening, well at least 4 evenings out of 7.
The trick to learning is tie it round your thigh (you'll probably have to lengthen it 1st). Do this until you can do it with your eyes closed. Then try it round your neck (remembering to shorten it first).
The other tick is it must be exactly the right length or it won't tie properly.
I liked a lot. In fact it really opened my eyes to the whole VoIP thing.
I now have both and a VoIP phone system as well. Only line rental on my telephone bill now smile
We used to try and do Break Dancing in the mid 70's - looked more like this --> :taz:
Met him a few times. He was exactly the same in "real life" as he was on TV. It wasn't an act, even the bad jokes.
A very genial character.
Very sad.
