One thing that may be worth trying is to put your original XP system disk in and when it boots up (assuming it manages to get that far), select the option to Repairrather than Install. XP should detect that it's already installed on the PC and offer you this option. If it doesn't come up, just Exit instead and nothing will get installed.
That should only put back the corrupted Windows files required without touching your data (unless you're in the habit of storing pics etc in your Windows directory).
You may need to change the boot-up settings on your PC (BIOS settings, usually accessed by hitting the F2, Tab or Del key at boot time) so that it's allowed to boot from a CD-ROM.

This does work with some - and normally an apology is also forthcoming with these members.
However there are more than a few who persistantly come back after being kicked, getting more and more abusive as time goes on. Even a 24 hour ban does not peturb them. These are the chatroom equivalent of the foul mouthed louts who are just out to insult and terrorise innocent people - no amount of threats deter them.
Absolutely agree Alex....and the next step for these people is to report them. The Ops, Mods or Admins can then take appropriate action.
I did think about the suggestion of having a forum topic in here to list known persistent offenders but thought that might fall foul of other issues (naming and shaming in public never being the best option). However I believe the Mods have access to a Mod-only forum where the information could be shared without making it available to the rest of us....do the chatroom Ops have access to this forum or similar as well where they could share details of offenders?
Frankly, if some people don't take the hint after a number of warnings, kicks and 24-hour bans, perhaps it's time to hit the big red button on them and wave bye-bye. They aren't the sort of people we want on here anyway.

I tried a couple of Logitech webcams that came with similar software in the past and whilst they were entertaining they were pricey for the functionality and not as good quality or reliability as I wanted.
The Logitech Orbit in particular has had very mixed reviews and the mechanics inside the stand are flimsy and unreliable.
I've now got a Creative Live FX instead - less than £50 from high street stores and comes with similar functionality (although not quite as customisable). There are no moving parts inside to break and it's small - fits onto the top of an LCD screen or laptop and far better quality video (particularly at night time).

Goose, I can appreciate your frustration but Ops are entitled to have off-moments just like anyone else. As you're probably starting to gather, they do a lot behind the scenes and have a considerable amount of work to cope with.
In an ideal world I'm sure they would all like the time to be able to deal with member questions and comments in a more thorough way. Fact is they are all worked off their feet and are doing all they can to spread themselves thinly across a large site. Once you get to know the site better you'll appreciate what a busy time they have, mostly with little thanks.
There are a lot of people who use the chatrooms and never venture in here. Ops have to deal with the same basic problems over and over again every time they're online. The fact that you have been into the forums means you'll get a better insight into what makes this site tick and how much work it is for a small number of individuals.
I take my hat off to them (well, I would only I can't find the darned thing!!).

Glad I joined in last night and pleased to help
I was also a little peed off with the "get your tits out" brigade diverting focus for what the room was about. I think it's a great idea having this sort of room on a regular basis and hopefully once it gets more established there will be less of that.
