Shireen - many thanks for a quick response. I edited the post whilst you were replying by the look of things.
Is the session problem a temporary one that's going to be addressed? It can be from a technology viewpoint - it's just how the room has been coded that causes it. As you're aware, the chatroom stability has been a bit of an issue. Combine that with errant users kicking people when they shouldn't and the inevitable other internet connection problems and it becomes a real pain having to wait another 5 mins on top before you can get back in again.
I've also added another bit onto my edited post about only being able to access one room too - it won't now let me run multiple chat windows for different rooms. Is this a permanent "feature" too?
Thanks biggrin
Another couple of problems - this time with the chatroom:
1) Since the new button has been introduced to allow swapping between servers whilst in chat, all chatroom text used has been resized with the spacing between lines reduced. This results in letters with tails (p, g, y etc) being truncated vertically. I've tried changing the zoom option on Flash but this makes no difference. Is this a server-based problem or is there something I need to change locally?
2) If I lose the connection to the chatroom for whatever reason, I can't get straight back in by refreshing the window. I get an error message stating that I'm still logged into the chatroom and advising me to wait 5 minutes before trying again
The second one is the biggest pain as losing connection can happen for any number of reasons and is pretty frequent at the moment.
Does this also mean we'll only be able to log into one room at a time too?

Ah thanks Shireen kiss
Should have tried it first to see what it did! (durr)
St3v3 posted on Friday advising there is an auto-response to Winks available in the "My Settings" page. What is this supposed to do?
It appears only to have choices of "Hi" and "Hi There"......is there going to be an option along the lines of "I don't accept winks"?
I have a big concern about the cam stealth mode too - I don't use my cam a great deal and when I do it tends to be in a private locked room so I control exactly who can see what.
It seems to me like there's a privacy issue here and I can imagine it will give lots of people the creeps knowing they can be watched like this.
Here's a few suggestions for some things I think the site should have (sorry to heap this onboard as I appreciate you guys have worked hard but it seems an opportune moment to mention it):
Chatroom Ignore: the one thing the chatroom is missing (as far as I can tell) is the option to ignore someone. It's been a standard function in all sorts of communication programmes for years and yet it's not available here.
Photos:you can make pictures publicly available or within a gallery to which you invite people, but as far as I can tell you can't restrict access to pictures to specific people on a once-only basis. Why not have the option of a "private to me" gallery from which you can select a picture to send with a message?
Winks:an option to turn off receipt of these, with an accompanying warning to a potential sender saying that you don't accept them so they don't just send and the things disappear into the ethers.
Presence Awareness:users should be able to switch this on and off as they see fit. Some people are happy for the world to know what they're doing on the site; others wish to keep it to themselves.
Friends: the page has been updated but appears to offer no additional options. The main thing I'd find this useful for is to identify whether someone is online or not (assuming they have allowed the option on their profile).
Mal - hope you managed to get it all sorted. smile
If anyone else is having similar problems, the following might help....
Firstly, change your settings inside iTunes so that it doesn't automatically synchronise with your iPod. On a PC running Wiindows XP it's under Edit/Preferences/iPod tab: "Manually manage songs and playlists". This allows you to move music around, delete it etc without affecting the contents of your iPod.
Next, there will be two types of music file on your computer: those you've ripped from CDs or downloaded that don't have copy protection, and those that are copy-protected (e.g. Apple iTunes AAC/.m4p). You only need to worry about the latter as you can re-copy the other ones when you've done whatever changes you need to make to your equipment.
To move copy-protected files around, the easiest way is to use a copy protection remover. This is still a grey area legally so you make your own decisions as to whether you feel comfortable with it...personally I'm of the view that if I have paid for one copy and I want to move that one copy to other equipment, I've not contravened the agreement. This also allows you to burn the music to a CD if required.
The programme I've used is called Hymn and it's available from here: . I've found it easy to use and reliable.
must be over 3 years ago for where i live coz i'm in a new-build and it's showing as wasteland
Anyone else get automatic notifications of new members that don't match their own profile? I've yet to receive one that contains people who might be interested in me or are in my area.
I'm in the Manchester area and am a male advertising for other males. So far I've had couples advertising for couples only, males looking for women, people in Hants, Surrey, Scotland etc etc.
Can this option be turned off in a user setting? It's a good idea in principle but proving to be useless for me.
According to Delia Smith, a teaspoon is 5ml so I guess 11cc is a tablespoon......come on!!!
Steve, will there be guidance notes posted at some point detailing chatroom etiquette and what is/isn't allowed? I think it would be useful guidance for all chatroom users. It could also include information on how to be a good chat-roomie (e.g. people who host rooms could help new users, log and report people who are being abusive etc). I'm happy to contribute ideas if it's of interest.
On occasion when I'm using the chat I post URLs for information based in the forums (e.g. the note about why people shouldn't post dogging locations). Other stuff like this would be useful and might encourage people to read the forums more regularly.
Something else that occurs to me is when a user hosts a room, shouldn't they have control over who stays and who goes? Of course it needs to be balanced with reasonable behaviour all round. For example, I sometimes create rooms and other people join who clearly have no interest or relevance to the room focus. I choose not to kick them unless they are being a pain in the proverbial.
I'd also like to know in advance what's acceptable or not so that I don't unintentionally cross any line, rather than being scolded after the fact.
Just after some clarification on how this should all work, thanks biggrin
Made me laff when the media reported it as him having "homosexual" and "heterosexual" relationships.....oh labels - don't ya just love em?

this might have been asked before or it might just be me being thick and not setting my screen right, but when I click on a users name with the intention of sending them a pm, the option to 'contact' is partially hidden behind the user menu so my question is
am I being a numpty and need to adjust a screen setting somewhere, or do I just count to 10 and shout 'coming ready or not' and go looking for the option, cos if thats the case its a shit game as its always hiding behind the user menu ...it really has no imagination.

davej
I have the same problem when I am at work, but not when at home on the other laptop!! must be a setting thing, and I need to re set as well, but how.....?
(No teckkienumpties please! xx)
Not sure whether either of you are referring to chatroom problems with the View Profile button not showing completely when first loading the room - if so I've found that by resizing the window it appears and you can normally resize it back to something smaller whilst still keeping the button visible.
Something that I'd like to see in the chatroom is the ability to make the userlist larger by dragggin the left hand border to the left (like you can do in mIRC) - frequently there are users who's full names I can't see unless I click on them as if I was going to whisper.
If you're kicked from a chatroom is there a time delay before you're allowed to log back in again? Have just been trying it out with a mate who has kicked me from his own room to see how it works, only now I can't get back into chat at all - could just be a coincidence....

What fetish???

You know.......Fetish.....there is only one of course
lol
Fully agree with this.....a suggestion: can we have something hard-coded into the chatroom window about this? Then the dicks who create these rooms have no excuse

POT - KETTLE - BLACK

I think what you were looking for is
Pot Black Via the Kettle
:haha:
I think the new chatroom is a vast improvement on the previous one - well done. Just a minor issue that would be great if you could incorporate it in future: there's no way of being able to bring up someone's profile in there - I'm doing it manually at the moment in a separate window. if you could either include a link (like we had on the old java version) or even better have a right-click option to load a profile from the listed user name.....

I have lots of replies but as soon as I try to arrange a meet I find people are not as available as they say. Maybe they just want something to w**nk about then go to bed with the missus. FOR GODS SAKE I ONLY WANT TO SUCK SOMEONE.

Hello Phil - can't tell from your profile how long you have been a member but I can understand your frustration with this. I've been on here for over a year and the number of meets I've had with other men I can count easily on one hand.
The disadvantage you have (and I share) is lack of being able to accommodate. This naturally limits your opportunities, especially when it comes to meeting bi or bi-curious men.
There are a significant number of men on here (and other similar sites) who are exploring new sexual territories and they have a lot to reconcile. It can be hard for someone to actually take the first step and commit to a meet, much though they may want to.
I've lost count of the number of people who have arranged a meet (or at least have been leading up to one via countless messages and chats) and have then bottled it at the last minute. This is particularly frustrating when they've made all the moves in the first place!
I have to say thanks to one member on here (cheers Al) who recently got an attack of the nerves and stood me up, but then not only had the decency to get back in contact with me about it to apologise, but also agreed to meet at a later date...and a good time was had all round.
Keep persevering - you will eventually make contact with someone (if you're prepared to keep putting the effort in). Bear in mind that not everyone finds it easy to go through with a meet, especially for the first time.
Good luck wink

Why if you're a 'straight male' are you looking for a 'couple with bi male'.... just curious mate, no offence intended wink

I had a conversation in the "chat"room the other night with a bloke who is interested in meeting straight males amongst other options. I asked him why he'd done this (as he put himself down as straight) for the same reason - he said because he wanted to make social contacts....I pointed out that there are a number of men who advertise themselves as straight and are wanting to meet other straight men but he didn't get the point.
Perhaps narrowing it down just a little might help......Lands End or John O'Groats ok? Perhaps the Isle of Sheppey? lol
Have you tried searching online for information?

Disclose locations in the open and it could be some idiot with a sledgehammer and you would not see it coming

I recall some years ago in Northampton there was an issue with a nutter who was enticing blokes into toilets for a suck through a glory hole and then used a sharpened knitting needle to...erm.....fix them in place. Care is needed indeed, particularly in Northamption area (not the most enlightened area for male-male meets).
You can also buy silicone sprays and liquids specifically for this. Brand names include Eros but there are also lots of similar ones that do the same job. Don't use spray polishes - although they give a similar sheen they will rot the latex.
Incidentally, did you know that the silicone spray that you pay a small fortune for in the adult shops is just rebranded lubricant spray that you can buy far cheaper from sewing machine shops?
For storage you can't beat talcum powder and this is what most latex manufacturers recommend. It's worthwhile spending a little more and using a better quality one (such as Johnson's baby powder) as the grains of talc are finer and therefore you (a) need less for coverage and (b) it reduces the chances of the talc being an abrasive.
I presume you know that you should wash your latex regularly with a gentle soap inside and out and dry it thoroughly before putting it away? This will preserve it longer. Also always store it out of direct sunlight with a liberal dusting of talc to reduce perishing.
Mine came from when I first started using the previous chatroom on here - I started off with a different nickname that seemed inappropriate for here so I became McrM4M-pvtOK within a few weeks of joining.
Mcr = Manchester (where I live)
M4M = what I am and what I'm looking for
pvtOK = an indicator it was ok to pm me without asking firstIt's a bit redundant now given the state of the chatroom but it's what I've become known as and I can't be arsed going through changing it and starting off every posting with "I used to be McrM4M-pvtOK....."
Incidentally I chose the piggy avatar coz when I win the Lottery (coz I will one of these days), my partner and I are going to settle down on a smallhold and have a pet pig, and because you really don't want to see my arse on the screen unless it's got a public health warning plastered across it! lol
One solution I've seen used on other sites would be to have a referral scheme where a member on here could be vouched for by other members who know them.
Of course this is still open to abuse and there's no definite way knowing what someone is really like until after you've met them (and even then there's the risk that they aren't what they first seem) but it might help.
The only minor concern I'd have to this is that it makes things difficult for new members if the majority already have verification - when you're on the outside trying to get known, it can be hard getting that first contact.
I've been in a situation recently on here where a bloke who was nervous about meeting another man for the first time had two issues: (a) general nerves and (b) not knowing whether I was genuine or not. I therefore contacted someone else who I'd already met on here and asked if he'd be prepared to vouch for me.

all that we know so far is that you want a pulse...

That wasn't in the list.....perhaps just as long as it's still warm to the touch?

Ah well, there are some ads on here with blokes who are "straight but I like oral, anal, touching, kissing, cuddling, skipping, going for walks, taking theatre visits, romantic nights in with the boys...." (ok, I made a couple of those up). lol
Makes it a bit confusing sometimes when people need to justify themselves with a particular label even behind a relatively anonymous ad.

Well it's all here if you care to click and set out for you by the lovely JQL.
Can you all use the side menus (especially the first one head INFORMATION) to find out what has been provided already?
cool

I think this an excellent article and a credit to SH to have such help on here. One comment I'd like to offer is that since Microsoft released their AntiSpyware product, the need to use Ad-Aware and Spybot is all but redundant. I've done a number of concurrent tests with these products (at home and in a professional capacity) and MS AntiSpyware picks up all that the others pick up and a few more besides. Obviously this is only a good option if you (a) want to use MS products (as I know some feelings run high here) and (b) it works with your computer setup.
