If this + stops just one couple from venturing into our world we've paid a heavy heavy price. Just my opinion ...

A good point, but the real question is does it stop more people from venturing into our world than the current system where new arrivals get bombarded with pvts from other newbies does?
It's not a perfect system, but the question is "is it a better system"?

Questions for the proponents: What problem exactly is the system trying to address and who wanted it?

I don't know who wanted it, but now I've thought it through I'm in favour of it. The problem it's supposed to address is that new genuine people are being put off SH by what currently goes on in the chatroom.
There are so many fakes and chancers in the room that the regulars generally ignore any newcomers (apart from a polite hello or two) until they have been around for a while without being kicked. This leaves the newcomers talking to OTHER newcomers, which generally means single males with no manners who think they are in for a quick shag.
I suspect we lose a LOT of people because the behaviour of non-regulars in the chatroom puts them off before the regulars start to talk to them, especially since newbies don't have the 'anti-unwanted-pvts' reflex that the regulars have.
I think there is a definite certain something to Jas's current avatar... but thi in NOT an excuse for any men to put an animation of their "I'm coming" gurning face as an avatar!
Many thanks for all the time and effort you put in to opping, it's a tough and sometimes thankless task. I don't think we tell the ops anywhere near often enough how much we appreciate the effort they put in with their constant vigilance, and adherence to rules that makes them the butt of every idiot's venom.
Here's to a job well done, Jewcy!

"the Inventor Rational" The professor who juggles half a dozen ideas for research papers and grant proposals in his mind while giving a highly entertaining lecture on an abstruse subject is a classic example of the type...love to argue--both for its own sake, and to show off...In terms of their relationships with others... so demonstrative that they succeed in shocking co-workers who've only seen their professional side.
I think that's pretty accurate!
'chilled out' and 'Central London' don't really go together!
Wherever you go around regent's park, you'll be horrifed by the prices and the crowds. Having said that, there is every kind of pub and club imaginable, so a few clues about the type of place you want might be useful... otherwise just grab a copy of "Time Out" magazine when you arrive and see what's happening.

Well, up to you.... let's just say it will be interesting to see what happens.......... I jsut thank my lucky stars that here on the forum we are much more sensible than to install such a system cool 8-) 8-)
well, I did put a :P after Godwin's law, to show I was joking!
...and as for the forum not having such a system, I refer then honorable lady to the purple bar and post count!

I've read most of this thread, but has anyone suggested a "poll" on the forum, to see who actually wants this or something similar?

That would only tell you what forum users thought of the idea, and there are lots of forum users who don't use the chatroom, and a lot of chatroom regulars who never post here.
Not much to add, apart from the usual observation that nowhere else could you ever put that much alcohol and that many people into such a small space and not have any aggro!
A big thankyou to everyone who went for making it a great night, and an even bigger thankyou to Marcuso himself for being sich an excellent host!
The "+" is actually a feature of IRC, and there isn't an equivalent "-" option.
All chatrooms have 3 user levels, normal, voice and op (4 if you include sysop/ircop, but let's keep this simple!). Before only normal and op were used in #swingingheaven, now 'voice' (indicated by a "+" in some irc software, but not all) is being used to denote verified users. In my chat program, I don't see an "@" for ops or a "+" for voices, I see names in red for ops and green for voiced users.

Welll...... it seems that the chat room who have commented on this don't actually like it... so who's idea was it in the first place, and how many room users actually do want it????    We have yet to hear from the creators of this new idea, haven't we?

To be fair, the people posting here are joint forum-chatoorm users, and not allof us are aginst it. To balance that, there an awful lot of beggging for "+" going on in the chatroom that you can't see here!

That covers every "single geezer with his cock in his hand". biggrin How about... one who consents to be known as active...?

Well spotted!

"...one who is known to be active...

or perhaps ...one who wishes to be known to be active... ?

If people read the info page they will see that you don't have to shag (or be shagged by) anyone to be verified.

The page says "A verified user is one who is active on the swing scene and who actually meets others on the scene for consensual, recreational sex."
Maybe this needs some clarification?

Except that's simply not the case; all the verified '+' means is that the person is a genuine player (or, let's be frank, a mate of a genuine player); it doesn't mean they're a genuine _couple_ or a genuine bifem couple or anything more. If anything, it could trick your bifem into being less careful, because she's more trusting of the guys with a mythical '+'.

A reasonable point, but one that is answered in the FAQ:

Question. Does verification entitle me to any privileges in the room?
Answer. No. In fact it puts a responsibility on verified users to act sensibly within the room. Be aware that if complaints are received by the administrator that a verified user is not living up to the definition, he, she, or they will loose their verified status and in extreme cases risk permanent removal from the room.

Yeah, but what about the newbie unverified bi fem who knows no-one who logs in wanting to hook up with a couple? They all ignore her cos they think she's some sad geezer with cock in hand (in my case, no change there then rolleyes ) confused :? :? :?

A newbie unverified bi fem is already treated like that, the difference under the new sytem will be that she'll know who the real couples are, this way she wont be wasting her time talking to other sad geezers with cock in hand if she wants a meet.

And don't even get me started about how hard it will be for newbie single guys under this system sad

hmm, time to consider what you mean by "it", which is the key point that made my initial scepticality about this go away when I thought about it. If by "it" you mean getting a shag, that is already pretty much impossible for a pure chatroom user (ie no ad, no forum posts). If they want to get into the 'SH scene', then they will be going through the same process as before, go to a munch and make friends face to face, etc.
If, however. "it" just means chatting in the chatroom rather than arranging meets, then not being verified makes no difference. People already chat to people (or decide not to chat to people) based on the following criteria: is this someone I feel like talking to.
The key point here is that the chatroom isn't all about meets, or even about real people, it's about chatting I'll have no problem chatting to my friends there if they are verified or not (and I know several of my friends there won't qualify because they are either retired from the scene or not ready to take part yet, haven't found anyone local they want to play with, or whatever).

But I do see how cos the chat room is "shallow" - OK, that really is what I think of it  - that regular users might want some help to weed out timewasters - I just don't see how this can be the answer dunno

The key to reducing the shallowness is to cut down the time that the 'oh this will be a quick way to get a shag' brigade take to lose interest. This will leave more room for the actual chat that currently only happens at odd times of the day (and night) or between the cracks in the 'hello xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx''s and the newbies harassing everyone. I think this system will help to do that.
"We had joy we had fun
flicking bogies at the sun
but the sun was so hot
that it melted them to snot"
at least... that's the way we sang it at primary school confused
Oh dear.... you know how we have that "swingers stories" bit of the site, well, guess what those star trek fans get up to in their spare time?

if you can't see this then I guess the server is currently down - just so you know ;)

Damn, the server goes down whenever I take my glasses off!
Where can I find a woman like that?
How will I keep her if I can't return the favour without pressing cold discs of glass into her upper thighs or crashing the server?
That does sound like it's a wi-fi problem at your end then - maybe you could try their tech suppot for help?
If you want a non-swinging example of the same problem, try the streaming , which will probably be affected in the same way.
Here's to Romance
Isn't it nice when two nice people decide to be nice together?

There are plenty of people willing to sort out your chatroom problems... try the Trouble getting in to the chat room? read this first thread and see if your problem is already covered there.

Don't forget the Family Planning Association , which is a charity that will give you condoms for free if you can't afford them.
99.9% sure of this, but I'm not involved in the tech side of this site... since the chatroom is not run from the SH servers, it won't be affected.
Those of you running mIRC should be able to get in as normal, those of you using the SH page will be able to keep on using the chatroom if they get into chat before the server goes down.
