My son was the King of Rome and three of my brothers were kings, but (strictly speaking) I was never crowned the king of anywhere.
I was born in India during the Second World War. I have said that I have been drunk on only 3 occasions and had sex twice (in 1960). Batchelor Boy? “I’m aware of the rumours, but I’m not
Oddly, the only thing most people associate me with is pointing at them. I drowned in 1916.

How about .........
I suffered a nervous breakdown in 1908 but recovered to become one of the most hated men in the world in the second decade of the twentieth century. You will have seen my photo many times – but probably not a photo of my left hand.

Jeremy Beadle? dunno
No ............... and my grandmother wouldn't have been amused!

I suppose my only surprise is that....people are surprised  was there really that kind of naivity around that folk thought the place would plod on forever without a commercial gain being made or being sought?....surely not.
Like everyone else I can only guess at events, but if you guess at a site starting out in a small way, with the owners not really knowing how it would grow and form itself, but then finding perhaps to thier surprise that the time and effort and I will also guess at a bit of cost as well, has made it grow into something that is much bigger than they envisaged and into something that now has a workload thats seriously impinging on life and a commercial value that can't be ignored, what would you do?...yep sell it! and why not. What the hell is so wrong about realising a worth on something you own and deciding to take that worth to provide for you and your own, cos I'm buggered if I can find fault in that.
So now there are new owners and those owners are going to try and make a shilling or two with thier new purchase. They have made thier initial announcement and already a few sticks and stones have been chucked over the walls at em. commercialism, greed, scammers, blah, blah, blah, well so what, someone sees an opening, sees an oppurtunity to add to thier existing business does the leg work splashes out the dosh and thats ohhh so wrong?....eerm no it isnt, its real life, you might not like it but thats pretty much how the world works, someone puts in the work, some starting capital and a business is born and on the back of that with a bit of luck comes a copper or two, ohhh and that terrible word as well....shall I say it?...shall I? ..go on then say it.....PROFIT.
Change can often be unpallatable, we all like the comfort of what we know, but change is ineviatable in nearly everything we do, touch and get involved in, sometimes for the better sometimes for the worse, but as sure as eggs are eggs it is with us all.
I ain't trying to piss on peoples concerns, but thus far its been said that the existing membership is gonna be uneffected, sort of tuped over and thats fine by me and if the time comes that the place changes into something that I don't like, or into something I can't afford, then I will open that same door that I opened when I walked into the place...the one marked 'free' and gently shut it behind me.
Best of luck to the old owners and best of luck to the new.

A very sensible post, Dave.
SH may be a community, but it isn’t a commune. We don’t all have equal rights and it’s not actually OUR site. I have been a member for long time (I was the eleventh person to join) and, during that time there have been many things I have enjoyed about SH and a number that I have not. Above all, however, I have been conscious of the fact that, basically, someone was providing something for me for nothing.
The fact that SH is about to change need not, in the short term at least, mean that the changes will be bad for existing members. Nobody spends money to buy something in order to change it in order to destroy it, particularly when that thing is as intangible as a web-based service. When the Swing2Us swingers site became a pay site, existing members retained their free membership and continued to provide the backbone of the site, which (I believe) got better.
I appreciate the commitment made by Elliot in saying that we, as existing members, will not be called upon to pay for membership and am prepared to wait and see how things develop. If I don’t like it I can just walk away – and it still won’t have cost me anything. A shame, perhaps, but that’s the reality of the situation …………….. and there’s nothing I can do about it.

Middle Management and Middle Class are two entirely different things IMHO

Are you sure that you're a blond? surprised
Thanks to Tevo for getting things off the ground and to everyone else for making the evening fun, especially Serendipity (whose conversation is as amusing as her posts).

Looking at the numbers, we may need to upgrade from telephone box to portaloo lol

........................... So, we're meeting at your convenience? boom boom
I'll get my coat
Is consideration being given to changing the venue to the Albert Hall .............. or are we still at the "telephone box, with room to spare" stage?
I've just realised that my last post was my 100th. (Yes, I know it's not many in 30 months).
I'm still waiting but, so far, nothing has happened......................... aren't you supposed to get a congratulatory from the Queen?

There's much worse in Gladiator, Spartacus and probably Up Pompey too lol

I've offered to pick Tevo up as he'll be fairly close to my office - depending on where he's staying will determine where's easiest for a drink! biggrin

Has the decision on where to meet been made yet?

lol ......... I know !!!
She had 12 text messages and thought they were something to do with houses ??????
coz apparently the symbol for mail looks like a house to my Mum ?
Is there any hope for me ?
Sam xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

I hate to worry you, but don't they look like a house only after you have opened them!
As they have now been deleted, I suggest you drop a few hints about Alzheimers - and if she brings up the subject again, insinuate the phrase "moving into a home" into the conversation!! wink

I have a problem, in getting an erection too easily.

Close your eyes and repeat, "Ann Widdecombe ......... Ann Widdecombe ......."
If your problem persists, you really do have a problem!! wink

Well you're going to be dead easy to spot in a pub!!

I imagine a woman with blue panties round her ankles will be fairly distinctive as well!! lol
Mind you, if you change the colour, how will we recognise you??
