Thanks for your advice - I think both of you are right. I have now read my 'alert'' email more carefully and it does say I won't get any more emails until I have used the link to revisit the thread AND it suggests that I need to take a positive step to stop future emails by clicking the 'stop watching this thread button'. I'm still not sure this is how it works, so I shall conduct an experiment!

In fact I don't need to conduct an experiment, I now see that the 'stop watching' button has reset itself to 'start watching' so it looks as if I need to reset each time.
Stop watching or Watch topic, doesn't seem to make naff all difference to me, still don't get anything.
