A thought occurred to me this morning!
The reason I am asking, is because I have posted threads where things have gone a little out of control, I feel responsible that I started the thread, although the arguments haven’t been on the back of the original topic.
It leaves me wondering if I should have started the thread in the first place, as arguments were not my intent.
When you post a thread are we in anyway responsible in making sure it doesn’t run into problems with people arguing?
I know mods are here, checking that the forums are running smoothly and a great job they do to.
But I also wondered if a thread is seen to be causing a stir is it the original posters responsibility to try and calm the situation or report it or ask for it to be locked if a Mod isn’t around?
What are your views?

You should know my views on this subject Minxy. lol
spit it you mate!

I don't think it's even the 'property' of the poster, once it's been posted.

I agree - and dislike it when an OP tells posters to stop doing such and such in his or her thread.
oh really, the OP visits their thread more than anyone else i see no harm in asking people to stick to the topic afteral the OP has interest to the subject at hand...in some cases have felt like deleting a thread when others turn it to a shopping channel
Agree, LovelyOne - although I've done it but in jest!
If a thread I start, goes off at a tangent, so what? That's only the same as a conversation, after all.
And Phuckers, you can only ask - you can't insist they stick to the subject; it's not realistic and threads would not last as long if they did, in my opinion. I also don't think it's true to say that an OP visits their own thread more than anyone else. Some post then run away. I may read the responses to a thread I've watched, every time I log in - but I don't always add to that thread.
very true FB,have not disputed that once the thread is out in public its not in the control of the OP,but i remember some of my replies were deleted from a thread when the OP requested the mod to do it,of course i wont name names but for someone to start a thread they must have an interest to it,i know i do

in some forums the OP has the lock key if things get out of hand, but you cant be responsible for what others say on your postings, this week i discovered it doesnt matter what kind of topic you post someone will pick on something simple like a spelling mistake and the next thing you know there is a bloodbath on your thread...keep up the good work minx, have told you before your postings are very original xxx

Bullying is often in the perception of the victim.
On this site if you post something personal there will always be someone who disagrees. If you then argue your case and a bunch of others turn up and disagree this can be perceived as bullying.
And it fact it has happened and will happen again.
People leave the forum because of it.
Is that bullying?
If you try to force your opinions on to someone else you are bullying them. The more agressively you do it the more distasteful it is.

hmmm i think not,are you talking about discussion
If someone perceives they are been bullied. Then to them it is real. Sure they can walk away but some people don't.
true but i would rather stand up to bullying than walk away....hey dont bully me into believing otherwise lol later guys!

In here it is bullying if it stops a person from posting their views.
As you say minx... it`s just words on a page but when you know that whatever you post is going to be dissected and critisized by the same person over and over again, it is unpleasant and may make you think twice about bothering in the future.
Anything that seriously restricts someone from expressing their views in an open forum could be seen as bullying.
The problem, of course is when somebodies views are unpleasant or insulting to others they should be curtailed, which is wny we have mods. But rumour has it that the mods are human and are, therefore capable of mistakes wink

spot on!

now we are having a proper moot biggrin

i put up a petition and a poll last week but is any of them effective if its not commissioned(posted)by the site for survey?...

This site never ceases to amaze me. Usually they are good things but occasionaly I discover something that just really shocks me.
I have just read an ad from a couple seeking a man.
The want a man or a group of men to make a friend of theirs pregnant. Bloody hell!!! The implications to this are mind numbing. Group unprotected sex by one or more groups.
Is it just me?
Am I out of step or out of touch?

we are all consenting adults and you will be amazed the volume of replied they received but they've broken the SH rules because they advertised for a third party who is not a member of this site...
have just vote but didnt see the point of it,but at the moment i spend 90% on forum,i cant cope with meetings cause my life is sorted sexually but i find the discussions here very interesting, entertaining and have actually learnt a great deal how to express myself, the mixture of the characters here makes it worth a log in daily.

There seems to be loads of profile on swinging heaven that now of people that haven't visited for ages (for people over 4/5 years, not a year or month). Do you agree it is time that these profile should be removed. The reason for this suggestion is when people search then you wouldn't get a profile of some that isn't visiting or using SH and would free up server space.
Sorry edit knocked off poll.

the search engine was improved not long ago, whereby you have the option to find the newest, oldest and the lastest log in,so i dont see the reason for cleaning up,and secondly its only last month we had about 6 people who had rejoin after couple of years out and they were pleased to carry on with their old usernames but i would suggest the pics of the members who are banned for life be deleted not the profile itself.

i will only say sorry if i mean it. thats because i really think i'm wrong. or i will say sorry that a person feels a certain way having taken what i have said the wrong way.
i will slao say sorry if i bump into someone because i'm genuinely sorry for being so clumsy as to do so.
i will not say sorry if i know i'm in the right. i will also never appologise if i don't mean it.
whips

good one guys we misuse apologies and make it worst in many occassions, take example a cheating partner who everytime he/she is cuaght out keeps apologising,i find that more hurtful than to say i did a mistake i need help...
not a chance in hell, you have to use your own judgement ..but how would you feel if you come after a meet and find someone has slatted you on a gossip column aka feedback...welcome to SH btw!
Why do we really apologise?is it for absolution or out of remorse, because we are truly sorry or cos we want to feel better about ourselves?or because its expected of us when we wrong others, but do we really mean it....?
i personally rearly or never quick to apologise beacause sometimes i feel its an insult to or waste of time if your feeling about a situation/issue is still the same....why do you apologise or not!

I would just like to point out, if it helps, that OJ was and is in the US. As much as we may be similar we do have different laws and rights over here.

but with a common Western Civil Society objective, no less

not when a civilized society like america detains people for over seven years without being charged

Correct me if I am wrong but I was under the impression that a persons previous convictions, could only be disclosed AFTER that person has been found guilty, and not before?
If a jury is allowed to hear a persons past crimes, before they go out to deliberate surely that would sway the jury in its deliberation on his current offence?
Maybe I have it wrong? dunno
d
thats sounds sensible kent but mind you OJ was not found guilty,so you've probably just contradicted your intial statement and also to prove that there is alot of flaws on this last case!
I probably have Phuckers m8. lol
In his first case I do not know if he had any previous convictions. The second case that has just finished, the jury at least knew of the last case. So I wonder knowing that, if the jury were swayed by what they knew about him from the first case? I would think it would be very difficult not too if honest.
Maybe you support the notion that some crimes (or criminals) shouldn't be jury tried at all...
bolt
good point, come back lets discuss how such people can be tried without their rights being violated

The trouble is that NEWSpapers can't cover the news. With 24 hour rolling TV news, radio news all the papers can do is report what happened yesterday (which we've heard or seen already) so that make up or glamourise the stories they print.
and pope john paul 11 at hospital adressing journalists after failed 1981 assasination
"hey guys, am reading newspapers to find out how am doing"
you forgot to mention Radio 1 news too,its so misleading, sensational and scare mongering, they try there best to make the news sound cool,am a constant listener of radio 5 live so i avoid all the papers generally
