This is a good thread to read but I personally find it difficult to add my own thoughts as to best and worst bits of the year!
I (mr srne), am a bit of a nomadic soul I reckon, I think of things not in terms of good or bad, just an experience of life. What's more important is how I dealt with it, whether it positive or negative and how much I can learn from said experience.
I puzzle myself at times as I can be so flippant about major things that happen to me, but get affected quite badly by things that happen to other people, even if I don't know them!
It makes me wonder whether I'm emotionally unattached from myself, I don't have self importance issues or low self esteem, I think Im just strange. :shock:

Srne... having spent some time living in New Orleans I am a HUGE Anne Rice fan. If you liked the Vampire Chronicles then can I recommend the Mayfair Witches trilogy? In my opinion, better than the Vampire Chronicles. The stories are set in an amazing house which is based on her own house in the Garden District in N.O. and they are fabulous stories. Also, she has written a book called 'The Feast Of All Saints' which is a historical novel rather than supernatural and again, is soooooo very evocative of the city of New Orleans and filled with detail.
Also, if you like Anne Rice, you may also like Poppy Z. Brite...

I had seen the film and thought it was crap but the book however was such a different story (pardon the pun). It is dark, has a fantastically Gothic and underlying erotic edge, and is really well written. I have since read all the Vampire Chronicles and have become a big Anne Rice fan.

Your points are valid but........when you have been let down, and it has cost you 40 quid in sitters fees, for someone not to turn up, it makes " dealing with it ", very hard indeed.
Luckily for us it has only happened once, but we know others that it has happened to a few times. People just need to make doubly sure that the people they meet, are as genuine and as honest, and have passed YOUR checks. Whatever they maybe to the individuals concerned.

Why not try and do as we do arrange to meet up for a drink socially, doesn't have to be at night in an expensive pub.
We use the site as much to get out and about to meet new people and get to new places as much as anything sexual.
We see it like this.......
Have a chat on msn put pics up (not send them)to see if we are all attracted physically as this is important to us, and arrange to talk on the phone fem to fem either right there and then or the next day. If the phone call doesn't materialise then its good old "block and delete" if it does we know they are genuinely a couple and both parties are interested!!
Then start to arrange times dates when they can meet and arrange a location, usually halfway between, though sometimes we will travel if its a bit of a distance.
We don't meet up with people that are really far away as its impractical most of the time, though we don't mind travelling within reason as we will get a hotel in the area and use it as an excuse to go out for the day/night somewhere new and if the meet up falls thru or we don't click, then its not a wasted journey.
We realise people have differing commitments such as kids, financial worries etc, so its each to their particular thing, but in the way we have kind of got to doing things its a win/win situation.
If we dont meet up with the couple for whatever reason (plumbing emergency etc etc ad infinitum) then we still have a good day out and go for a meal and enjoy ourselves together as a couple rather than stress or worry that the other people didn't show!!

We were supposed to be stopping for an hour or 2 but had such a good time we stayed 'till the end and really enjoyed ourselves!!

Right wrats, I have no idea of the true reason for your post but here's my slant on what I think your trying to say.......
We (Miss srne and myself) dont see ourselves as "swingers", yes we are members of a "swinging site", but its also a "community."
We are here because we want to make friends with people who have similar interests and outlooks to ourselves outside the conventional train of thought of the "you must repress all sexual urges that you naturally have when you meet someone your happy with." If this leads to sexual shenanigans with people we are attracted to great.
We went to a social last night an met up with people we chat to in the rooms, what a great bunch of people they were and a great laugh. Some of them are people we would not pursue a sexual liaison with due to the fact that the attraction is not there (which for us is important), but would we have a night out with them? Hell yeah it was a hoot!!
Some of the people there I'm sure may not be as nice as they appear. In every social group there is a bit of bitching, sly comment making and pot stirring, but we try not to get involved enough to get involved if you know what I mean?
In summary what I'm trying to say is, the further you get into this "scene" and the more you get to know people, and they you, the more you see their true colours and find out whether or not they really are the people you thought they were.
We stay on the outskirts which some would say stops us from making any true and lasting friends on the site, but it means we never get disappointed by people letting us down or seeing a side of them we never knew existed etc etc.
From the posts I have read you seem like nice genuine people and speaking your mind in the face of social judgment is a very admirable quality.
Hope some of what I've said helps or at the very least makes sense?

Except of course the gospels hang their own stories over a loose framework of common theming due to being written over quite a period of time. Not to mention said gospels were edited, picked and chosen by a vote, written by people not even alive at the time Christ was meant to be around... You have to admit, for such a world changing event such as God's firstborn hanging out with fishermen there's really very little agreement on who, where, when, what, how. There's also the minor detail of the messianic prophecy in the old testament stating the paternal bloodline of the messiah, which is tenuously and erratically proven through Joseph - The slight problem being of course that was his step father!
But aside from all that, the celebration of Christ's birth was pinned onto the Winter Solstice in keeping with the placing of many Christian festivals. The giving of gifts has more to do with Yule than some loose re-enactment of three itinerant monarchs, just as I'm fairly sure even a miracle worker descendant of God didn't lay chocolate eggs on a different date each spring.
And this is why religion annoys me, and threads like this irritate me. People are being offended that their religion (the faith of the nation apparently) is being twisted, corrupted and subdued from various angles, when that very religion is a global example of just that process! Sadly many people repeat dogma parrot fashion without putting any thought into the words (Merry Christmas is a substitute for "Have a nice day" at this time of year), or play the "My Gods better than your (none existent for mine's the only true one) God" games, and just shows how a multicultural multi faith society is always going to have problems, even if the sledgehammer of politcal correctness reduces the scale of the tension.

My old next door neighbour was a devout Christian, good, God-fearing woman who attended church almost daily. She also planted kitchen knives, pointing upwords, in her flower beds to keep the cats out of her garden and started a petition in the street to stop an indian family moving in next door to her. She also stopped her daughter giving her grandchild a hand knitted jumper with dinosaurs on it because she was a creationalist.

So if you don't want to have your kids taught R.E at school thats your right and choice as a parent but the school were probably making a point of not including your child in the religious celebration of Christmas.

I think Christmas is far too commercialised these days and the social pressure to give gifts is more driven by big business' idea to get your money into their tills rather than any religious connotation.

I would't say anyone is right or wrong, peoples religious beliefs are their own business. Christmas as a mass commercialised social celebration or celebration of the birth of possibly the most important figure in history?
I dunno lets just have a good time and make Christmas about whats really become important, being with the ones you love and making it about what you want it to be!!
