Forum

morning guys. ;)
don't dismiss HB too much please, cos it was an excellent summary to start the day with.
after a bit of discussion last night, i've been told that DPA could quite possibly apply, and that mere possibility is a massive mess of legalities.
the passing of details to the external d'base sails exceedingly close to the wind wrt the DPA. Essentially for the the 'rating' to be worth anything, it's necessary to be able to assert that hairy_cornflake (on the forum) = daveleetravis (on the chatroom) = = Dave from Surrey = Dave from Surrey's IP address.

now i know IP isn't likely to be stored. when you log onto StarChat your IP is scrambled so not available info anyways, unless a specific command only available to Ops is run, where StarChat will send the IP to an SH Op, usually for the purposes of a ban. so it's not needed on the auto-voice. nor is it likely your real name on there. not necessary. so it should only consist of your nick, and the +V alongside it. it might have your email on there too, as your verified address for +R. but still if that can be said to be in anyway confidential, it comes within DPA. i still say it doesn't, but it's no small issue there.
so far it seems the pro camp is arguing it's purpose is to make it easier for gen people to be known, depending of course on your definition of gen. and that having it does not change anything anyway. these arguments come from a mere handful of people who have either voted for it as implememntors, or are users who now have their +.
to counter that are god knows how many people who do and don't uses chat, do and don't have +, or have a + and don't want it, or don't want it but could have it etc etc raising huge questions about the presumptions, assumptions, implications and consequences of this on all kinds of levels.
exactly when will anyone say, in a rational way we can understand, just why this is not simply a massive, huge mistake, that strikes to the core of SH, and the principles it stands for.
neil x x x ;)
denise we're not bickering.
we're having a free and frank exchange of views in a respectful adult manner, which is what the cafe is for. except it ain't actually a free and frank exchange cos we're being told by some to STFU about it in a completely unadult, disrespectful way by some ops who would rather flame and launch personal attacks than discuss it with us?
well we care about this too much just to STFU, cos we love SH too much to let the place be dragged down to that level.
neil x x x ;)

no it is not a chatroom issue. it is a site issue. chat is just part of SH. something we are all members of. and lots of people arguing here are chat members, who cannot raise this in there, cos for one you can't argue this point in a medium designed for one line banter, and more to the point, if you do bring it up in there you risk a kick / ban!
you say say this to the site owner? what do you think we are doing here on his forum? maybe mark would prefer us to send him 600 mails every time a new question arises? i somehow doubt that?
neil x x ;)

the reason this thread has gone on so long, is cos we are arguing on a point of principle about something that fundamentally changes the nature of SH! it has nothing to do with whether we use the room or not, or would have the + or not if we did, or anything.
there are huge, real concerns from god knows how many members, that this is just plain wrong in conception, and badly handled in implementation.
most of those arguing in favour of +, are room members of long standing, already have a +, and so do not seem to grasp why we have an issue with it. they are defending their + status, and not arguing on principle.
noone has yet answered a single one of god knows how many questions brought up here?
and it's all well and good saying, we have it, there's no point arguing, cos that is one of the arguments we have. if we aren't allowed to question it, and have to accept it, then some members of this site have taken it upon themselves to forever change SH! i challenge their right to impose this on us and force us to accept it without at least having the decency to come here and respond to criticism without flaming those who challenge it. we are simply to assume they know what's best, and any questioning of it is out. they cannot even give us a reasonable summary of their thinking on it.
this issue will simply not go away till all these questions are answered in the same way that they have been asked. reasonably. logically. openly. honestly. with respect.
neil x x x ;)
hiya fred mate!
good to see you, and ta for confirming all our fears about the effect this is likely to have on new and unknown users who can't claim +V status! ;)
right. StarChat hosts the SH chatroom. it's a collection of servers linked together, and run by StarChat ops. it has nowt to do with SH whatsoever. they just allow us to have a chatroom running on their machines. some SH ops are Starchat ops, but most are not. an SH op has a much lower status than a Starchat op, and only has opping powers in the SH chatroom.
when you go into the chatroom now, and find a + next to your name, that's cos a particular command, the voice command, is being run against your nick. as it happens automatically, you are being auto-voiced from a database that holds a +V next to your nick in some way.
that database is therefore being held off site, and we have no way of knowing who is adding you to that database. it may be an SH member, and most likely is, but equally it may not be. Admin could just be requesting the addition of a nick for us.
neil x x x ;)
am i right in thinking it's been said that Ops are not adminstering this? cos if that's true, then it raises an interesting point
now the auto-voice database must be located on a StarChat server for +V to be automatically assigned when you enter the room. that means that at least one database of SH members exists off site. SH does not own Starchat.
Admin could simply forward requests to a non-SH member with StarChat Op priveleges to add +V. that would mean again that Admin is at least a site member, but there are then 2 databases, one on site run by Admin, and one on Starchat that may or may not be run by an SH member.
we have no way of knowing whether the op actually adding the +V is an SH member in that case. so there could be an issue there of breach of confidentiality? i don't know?
alternatively, Admin are maintaining a single database on StarChat, and adding +V themselves, which means Admin are an SH Op, which IIRC, has been denied.

denise that's not the point. it's not whether that worries anyone, it's whether there is a possibility that legally the DPA comes into force if it can in anyway be said that the databse holds confidential info. that's all. i suspect it doesn't.
n x x x ;)

But..... If information is being held about you, you have a right to know who holds it.....
Shireen
true. so the mere existence of it means you have certain rights, if it is within DPA. i'm no lawyer. i really have no idea if it comes within DPA or not.

well i did wonder about DPA, cos clearly if users are being auto-voiced when they enter channel, then a database is being held somewhere on a server. who administers that database, where that database is located, and whether admin are SH members isn't an issue as far as DPA is concerned i think. just the fact someone somewhere has it on a server could bring it within DPA.
but . . i think if it's just a chatroom nick, with a +V against it, it can be argued there is nothing confidential there that leaves you identifiable per se. having said that, it is possible in some roundabout way for some users to be personally identifiable if they use a real name in the room, or use a realname email addy for chatroom registration, and in that case you can argue that the nick and +v and nick registration in combination reveal confidential, personally identifiable info that you are an active swinger? i doubt that is a breach of DPA though, but i simply don't know. just something else should that really needs to be clarified?.
If someone was that worried they wouldnt have used their real name would they confused

simply breathtaking.
i know some people will think i'm just stirring here too, but what we now have is ops vs users, plussed vs unplussed, chatroom vs forum, pro vs neg etc etc. how many more ways shall we try and slice SH up? i thought SH was SH and we were all equal members of it? seems some are much more equal than others, and some of those others are a bit more equal than some others, etc etc all the way down the line?
the reason people are pointing out the fundamental flaws here, in a logical articulate intelligent way, and asking questions of this, is because nowhere have any of those who actually voted for this and implemented it come forward with anything to explain their thinking in any reasonable way, and some of those are now openly flaming the site rather than answer the questions being put to them? a fine example to set other members, and i suspect this will run and run!
no user should be verified without their knowlege although with the initial seed lists there was always a potential problem.

that is precisely the point. users have been verified with no permission or consultation in even the most cursory way? that is more than a potential problem it's a huge one for quite a lot of people suddenly finding themselves labeled as sexual active members of this site?
if there had been a thread raised explaining the system, asking people to opt in, well i'd still be against it on principle, but at least that lit little problem would never have come up?
neil x x x ;)
It may surprise you to learn this, but scam sites lie and claim to be free when they are not it;s only through chatting to people who confirm it that many newbies actually believe those pages.

a newbie would naturally assume that the site owner was responsible for both the content of his home pages, and the systems put in place on his site wouldn't they? so they might think he was telling porky pies on the one hand re: this is a free site, but they would trust him implicitly that the verification system is real? and if the site owner says it's a free site then tries to put his hand in your pocket then you trust the site even less, so you would have any faith whatsoever in the integrity of any part of the site damaged, and would most likely go elsewhere?
but anyways, ice pie has superbly summed up what some of us have been saying consistently for 30 odd pages. it is an attack on the very foundation of eveything that SH represents, and always has represented.
neil x x x ;)
You want a list of every possible scam? Off the top of my head... mebership fees, chatbots boosting numbers in the channel, hookers in the channel, pay to see replies to your free ad, we won't verify you without a visa card, you need to buy an 'adult verification id' to get in, no fees at parties (but it will cost you £80 to get the party locations), install this dialler to use the good bits of the site, everyon here id a reported or police cracking down on doggers, we are all actuallly single men... I could go on for days!

all those questions are already answered by the site owner on a page that can be found right there at the top of the homepage! this is a free site. it will always be a free site. there are no hidden areas. it is open.
i can understand the verification system on a paysite, because if you're gonna charge people to use it, they wan't to know they are getting their moneys worth.
the + does not denote you are just who you say you are, else munches, parties, social meets etc etc etc would be taken into account. your identity could be confirmed that way, but that is not the point of it.
the +, as explained on the verification pages, and in this thread, denotes that as far as the first tranche of plusses go, they are known to have shagged someone on this site. for you to be verified, at the moment, a decion to say that you are known to have shagged someone on SH has been taken on your behalf, without your permission!
it is an invasion of privacy, and an invitation to breach your confidentiality! but you will either go along with it, and allow us to exercise the right to out your private life, or you will opt out. but discussion of it is out?
neil x x x ;)
mr_d, think it's apparent i have actually read the entire thread? you don't wriggle out that easy mate! can't be bothered with the multiple quotes again . . . .
i don't follow the haddock=fish logic? if + denotes genuine, lack of a + denotes what? either it makes a distiction, or it doesn't. if it doesn't, what's the point? if it does, why do you feel the need to be distinguished from other users?
it's a free and open site that anyone over 18 can access. where might the scam be lurking? we we're once newbies clever enough to look round the site and join in with it and make our minds up for ourselves. new newbies however somehow aren't and so need to be told who's who?
thanks for at least agreeing that it *is* a sanction. well i deny you the right to sanction me! now what? as 2 equal members abiding by the site AUP, you have the power to sanction me, cos you're plussed, i have no say in that whatsoever, and just accept your power over me? well sorry but no i don't!
you chose to edit out the quote on the bit where i asked if you can see any way that this system might adavantage you to the disadvantage of other users, so i'll ask it again?
if this system is of benefit to those who accept it, those who don't accept it can't or won't benefit from it, and so they are denied a benefit you have! that is fair how? kind of the entire point is that it splits the site and elevates certain users!
jon? if the room is still exactly the same as it always was, then the point of verification, or the need for it, is what?
neil x x x ;)
/flounces back in once again . . . . yes i bloody know ok! rolleyes i'm just here cos i love a good old barney ok! well no that's not really true i don't really. well ok i might do. look i don't know do i cos i'm not here. :lol2:
The + means (to paraphrase the rules) "this person is what they say they are, and they will turn up to a meet".
no it doesn't say that at all. it might say you are who you say you are yes. but that will be seen to say that the non-plussed might not be? so it makes them non-genuine? it doesn't guarantee anybody that you will turn up to a particular meet, just that you have done, or might have done, in the past, assuming it ain't just one of your +ed up mates or ex-lovers verifying you as a favour that is!
It's not an anti-single male measure, it's an anti-misleading discription/timewaster measure.
]so we are incapable of making distictions ourselves, or picking up the phone and actually speaking to someone, or switching on a web cam, or just chatting for a good while? we want our hands held for us to establish that?! and if you are plussed, and arrange a meet, but have to cancel for real reasons, can another plussed user have your plus removed by calling you a timewaster, if that is their opinion?
If all the genuine single males in chat were verified:
1) It would be a very good thing for the small number of single males currently verified (myself now included) since it would remove the possiblity of us being accused of abusing our status.
yes i'm quite sure it would be good for you! we have no argument there! not sure on the remove the possibility etc etc thing. didn't understand what you meant?
2) It would be a very good thing for anyone in chat interested in single males (it does happen sometimes!) because they will know where a good supply of real ones can be found
so the other single males ain't real people now? just cos you can prove you've shagged someone on SH, you are real? i can only see that as making things even harder for other single m's who might well be perfectly genuine, and often have to work bloody hard to get any kind of recognition at all. can you see any way that this might advantage you to their disadvantage, and deny them the same opportunities you've had here?
3) It would be good for people not interested in single males, because the verfied ones would not want to risk their verified status by harassing peopel who are not interested.
if someone harrasses, well they get booted? the + serves no function there. you either abide by room rules, or you get binned. so you're saying the + is actually another sanction available to ops?
4) It would be good for everyone who is just there to chat, or to make up their own minds about swinging (and we do get a LOT of both these types in chat) because they would be able to tell who is a newbie and who is a regular.
all it takes is a few visits to the room to see who's reg? the regs know the regs cos they see them every single day. the newbies can see who's reg by becoming reg? not difficult for anybody?
4) It would be good for everyone who is just there to chat, or to make up their own minds about swinging (and we do get a LOT of both these types in chat) because they would be able to tell who is known to be 'a genuine person who is what they say they are' and wants this fact to be known and who is isn't, doesn't or doesn't want it to be known that they do.
well if i'm just there to chat, i can make that known by simply typing, i am just here to chat. if i'm just there to chat, then i won't arrange meets? if i'm just there to chat, then i really don't care who meets or who doesn't cos, i'm not there to meet?

i still can't see what the problem is that so needs to be fixed here by adopting verification,, but i can see a shedload of problems coming from this?

oh FGS do you not think i don't know all about single males? i am one FGS, and constantly battle the attitude that we are all desperate wannafucks! ((( see previous post by system implementer for the origin of that particular wording!! )))
i was once a shite channel op, who had to step in to god knows how many rows, to defuse that particular assumption? and boot people permanently from the site because of an opinion *I* made about them?
you yourself have claimed you are intelligent enough to make your own distinctions, as have many others. so the point is, WTF is the point? if members of this site are clever enough to make those distinctions, why do we need to report our shags to some administrator to gain special status, who will then assign us a status so those less able than ourselves ((( ???????? ))) so that they can then make that distinction themselves?????
either we are genuine on our own merits or we are not!
i am not gonna report my sexual conquests to a site admin, just so i can have a particular status on this site. a status that is only given to those who are quite prepared to breach discretion in order to gain a + by gossiping about the fact that they have just fucked someone!
what, in my argument, and that of god knows how many members outraged by this, making whole essays on moral grounds, is soooooo difficult to understand?
you will see ops, ex ops, mods, mere members, outraged by the whole idea! i reiterate once again, i could have claimed the +, but it disgusts me, and it disgusts many members.

that is no argument!

We are swingers and that involves sex and sex involves desire to have sex with others.
A non-plussed person stands as much a chance of having sex as a plussed up person because others will desire them. It's a basic human instinct and no system anywhere can counteract it.
I believe you have done a great disservice to those "plussed up" people in the chat room by assuming that they regard all non plussed up people as tossers. I certainly do not judge anyone on that basis and anyone who has spoken to me directly will have heard me say at some point that one of my philosophies in life is: I will like anyone until THEY give me a reason not to.

once again i'm confused.
either it makes a difference, and establishes credibility, which is the point of being +'ed. or it doesn't. in which case it's bullshit, as you've just argued, cos you personally place no credence on the +, and make no distinction?
which way do you wanna have it, cos i really am absolutely lost?
and to reiterate the point, i WOULD have a +!

I think you have a very valid point there Blue and one that needs addressing by the verification administrators. It doesn't mean that the system is fundamentaly flawed but there is scope for improvement. Obviously, were such an occasion arise whereby a "plussed up" person verified another person and that user had posted no more then 3 or 4 posts in the forum and was unkown in the chat room then questions ought to be raised about the verified person's actions for that would be abuse of the system and irresponsible behaviour by the verified person - which is another facet of this system's ability - to remove verified status from those that do not use their status properly.

The forum has nothing to do with verification in the chat room, therefore the amount of posts they've done here does not matter. There is nothing in the rules that says that someone needs to be active in the forum in order to be verified in the room - so that is not a valid arguement. The system is unmanageable cos it impossible to say whether or not someone is abusing their status..... how would the admin know if a verified person was just making up stories to get non playing people verified???
Ok. Fair point regarding the forum. It is unrelated to the chat room verification, I merely used the 3 or 4 posts in the forum example as a way of showing a pending verifyee's inactivity across the whole site.
Yes, the system IS open to abuse as is any system anywhere else in the world, but does that in itself mean that we should not at least try to develop a system that enables us to identify undesirable people much more easier than at present. If a verified person does start abusing his or her status then I think that will soon become apparent and they risk losing their verified status and maybe even banned from the site altogether - if they weigh up the pros and cons I'm sure most will see it's not worth the risk.
Wishmaster.
wishmaster i am getting more and more confused?
define undesirable? rhetorical question . . .
i abide by the AUP. i abide by the chat room rules. so my status is what?
i break the AUP / rules, i get binned from the site . . .
so your definition of me as being undesirable, yet abiding by the site rules IS PURELY SOMEONES OPINION THAT HAS NO MORE MERIT THAN ANYONE ELSES!
apologies for shouting! ;)
and since you have the +, and will no doubt benefit from the +, forgive me if i take your argument as being based on something other tha a point of principle, which is what we are trying to establish!

Not at all Sean... the system is not about excluding anyone unless they prove themselves to be exactly what the verification system is trying to counteract: timewasters, men posing as women (which is self defeating as they will soon be found out, so I don't know why they do it in the first place) and assholes coming into the chat room looking for a quick shag (I will take this opportunity to say that these loathesome creatures regard the women in the chat room - our friends - as whores who should drop their knickers on demand). These issues are what the verification system is about!

It is easy to prove someone is male or female by a simple phone call. Verification will actually increase the amount of uninvited attention that the verfied fems will get - single newbie male comes in, sees verified fem - thinks, "she's a player, she must be up for it" - get my drift?
The verification process that is in place now is crass and does little to resove the real problems that happen on every chat room.
I think you need to rethink your argument wishmaster
I disagree Blue. I use the chat room a great deal and I've seen with my own eyes how the female regulars in there are more than capable of dealing with persistent serial pm'ers and assholes. They can be a tough and ruthless bunch in there biggrin and show no mercy to those that are clearly not interested in adhering to the rules and becoming part of our community but to those newbies that are friendly, respectful and decent the females in the chat room are very courteous and friendly in return.
Wishmaster.
I have no doubt that the fem members know how to deal with tossers. That was not my point. The point was that verified fems will get pestered more and more....... and they will spend more time having to deal with these tossers than the unverified fems...... however well they deal with it, the fact is they will still get pestered more due to their + status.
and . . . there are already sanctions to deal with those tossers who break the AUP / room rules anyways. they will get kicked / banned. so if they are truly loathsome creatures, as you argued previously, they won't be in the room that long? those who do abide by the room rules however, are still likely to be categorised as tossers cos they ain't been verified, and are unlikely to find it easy to be verified, no matter how gen they are, cos they ain't yet been verified??
we go round the bend again?
n x x x ;)
assholes coming into the chat room looking for a quick shag (I will take this opportunity to say that these loathesome creatures regard the women in the chat room - our friends - as whores who should drop their knickers on demand).

erm . . i happen to know some couples here, who would really take offence to the idea that they are loathsome creatures, because they are in actual fact, and have admitted as much, looking for a quick shag!
and in actual fact, a single fem having a +v is gonna encourage that anyways, as many single fems have pointed out, and have consequently rejected the idea themselves.
can we actually argue on the point of principle here, which some of us understand, instead of just bloody disparaging, cos i'm probably well beyond the line where i look an arrogant tosser trying to address the actual issues here?

This is the crux of the issue, and something that seems to be widely misunderstood. We don't need a 'shagbadge', but new arrivals do need to know that at least some of the chatroom users are genuine. It's not there for us, it's there for them.

you what?
so WE are quite clever or persistent enough to have worked that out for ourselves, but newbies, which we once were remember, are clearly so bloody dumb that they couldn't possibly work that out without SH ops awarding the shagbadge?
perhaps you'd like to rephrase mate?
neil x x x ;)
It's not a question of newbies being 'dumb', it's a question of them not knowing anyone yet. If you'd like to suggest some other method by which you could enter a room you've never been in before and know who to trust and who not to, please let us know!
mr_d
i am really not flaming you now so please don't take offence.
when i was a newbie who knew noone on the site, i went into the room, and i chatted to people. i believe most users here did the same. i suspect you did too?
it wasn't easy to earn recognition. it took time and effort. which personally, i think is what is required on a swinging site where people are possibly going to let you into a relationship. it requires trust. you earn it. you are not awarded it . it is really as simple as that!

I have just had a brief Precised look through the thread and in hindsight I do agree with you entirely Blue.
Although in truth I don't think the verification system will make a lot of difference to the sexual activity on the site. for two reasons.
Firstly, In my opinon what attracts people to one another on the forum's is their personalities, when you get to know somebody well from on here you already know that they are either an active swinger, or certainly interested in becoming one, and therefore what difference does verification make.. If I may be allowed to make an example, If I were to meet someone on here that I really got on with, and found attractive, the fact that they had a little + sign next to their name would make no difference to whether I would approach them with the possibility of a meet or not.
Secondly, the other source of action for many people on here are the photo Ad's I personally am not one to go that route, as I feel there has to be some kind of ... "Friendship" between two people to make swinging that little bit better, each to their own so those that are regular users of the service please do not be offended. Obviously these advertisers/trollers will not be affected by the system, so really what is it going to do???
Feel free to point out any faults in my thinking, I really enjoy a good debate ;-)
Sean

taa daaaaaaaa! biggrin
i thank you for that! that is entirely the point!
it is pure unadulterated bollox! it adds NOTHING! yet this particular sledgehammer is being used to crush a tiny little walnut, and it changes the entire face of the site. the fact someone hasn't yet swung with someone with a + does not make them less genuine! so why do you want us to tell you personal details of who has fucked whom to establish something that is ludicrous in conception! yet the fact remains NOT having the plus will be seen by many as an indication that you are NON-GENUINE! consequently you have a lesser standing on this site till you fuck someone with a + !
so in a nutshell the + means bugger all, and genuineness can be discovered anyways quite easily, by anyone who is a genuine person themselves? yet it detracts in huge ways to the open, friendly, non-cliquey atmosphere, and changes absolutely the entire face of the site, and it labels you. well how many times have we had a row about LABELS on this site, and yet the powers that be now seek to use labels for you! you are what you are. there is no place for any kind of labelling whatsoever here.
i am not here to be involved in a flame war! i am here to tell you that this is an entire nonsense, which anyone can see reading the mass of comments from members here if only they are open to criticism and willing to actually accept reason, rather than standby their own opinion without being able to defend that opinion in any reasonable way. personal attack does not an argument make!
i may no longer be a chatroom user, as was pointed out, but believe you me i could quite easily have had the little +, cos i could quite easily be verified by those with a + in there. i would still have made every single comment i have made on this thread, and i would still have denounced it, cos i do not need to spill my guts on the sexual activity i have had through this site to make me GENUINE!!
finally, once this system is in place in the chatroom, which is after all part of SH, will the argument that the entire site should adopt it gain more weight, and will we have this entire row again at some point in the future? it could be argued that verification should be applied to Lets Meet Up, or to the Ads, for the exact same reasons. if you want the entire site to demand that you can prove you belong to a clique of users, accept this. if not, reject it out of hand.

absolutely staggered beyong belief!
right. let's get this absolutely clear steve_d!
the function of a chatroom OP, is to enforce the AUP, and ensure the responsible use of the room! nothing more! OPS are mere members of this site, who have volunteered to do that. so as mere members, why is their opinion, or their rights, of more weight than that of other members who have argued forcefully against this.
so the OPS ((( some of them ))) voted for it? well who gave you the right to take that upon yourself? a handful of you ASSUMED that right. which is precisely the point of those who have argued so forcefully, out of real passion, on this thread!
we are arguing not on "teething problems". we are arguing out of real conviction that it is simply plain wrong for members to have their sex lives subject to scrutiny so that a handful of anonymous other members can say whether or not they are a genuine member of this site!
i do not accept, that anyone, be they OP or not, has the right to pass judgement on others here. nowhere have you put forward any valid reasons why this is either necessary or desirable or even remotely useful. there are lots of negatives that lots of users, many of them yer ACTUAL chatroom user, have expressed here. so lets not just dismiss the argument out of hand with yet more put downs eh?
it serves no purpose, it is unclear, it is confusing, it does not serve to denote genuine swingers. it simply serves to denote people who in your opinion, are not genuine, because they don't know who you know. that's it!
neil x x x ;)
this is a hell of an essay, but please bear with me, cos i want everyone here to be very very clear, that i have no axe to grind here with anybody, but this issue is of huge importance to members of this site!
since posting the 2 farewell threads, i have barely looked at SH. in general for me at least, it is not the place it was, mainly for personal reasons that are unrelated to SH as such. but then last night i was made aware of the existence of the verification thread, so i took a quick peak at it.
reading the first post, which btw was raised not by a mod or an op by way of explanation of the process, but by someone who had stumbled across the new pages on verification, i knew immediately what i felt about it. but i read through every post on every one of ten pages, to see where the reasoning lay, and if i was wrong in my opinion.
it was with mounting disbelief that i followed this thread, until finally i activated a new account, so i could post my feelings on it. i can tell you hand on heart i would not have reactivated without this thread.
IMHO, SH as i have known it, no longer exists! i am arguing on this thread out of real conviction that potentially the entire character of a site i love with a passion has been changed forever by this.
this is an OPEN COMMUNITY! we pride ourselves on acceptance of anyone who comes here in the right spirit, no matter who they are, or who they choose to be, or what they choose to do!
what we now have, is a site where the right connections confer a status on you that is denied those who have yet to make those connections. SH now consists of those who know the right people, and those who don't! that is a clique by any definition of the word, something some of us have really tried to avoid with a real effort to welcome those who come here. it will serve to EXCLUDE!
verification, in the way it has been presented, has nothing whatsoever to do with your status as a swinger, or as a member of this site in your own right, on your own terms. it CONFERS a status on a certain clique of individuals, in the least transparent way, and engenders a situation where not knowing members of that clique CONFERS ON YOU A LESSER STATUS!
we also have a situation now where YOUR PRIVATE LIFE IS SUBJECT TO JUDGEMENT by a mere handful of individuals. they NOW HAVE THE RIGHT TO JUDGE YOU but you have no right to be informed of exactly WHAT THE BASIS OF THAT JUDGEMENT IS! they cannot even give adequate response to those who have raised questions on this thread asking for a simple definition of the process. but it is entirely within those individuals power to label you as A NON-GENUINE MEMBER OF THIS SITE! that is what verification does, and they have just ASSUMED THE RIGHT TO EXERCISE THAT JUDGEMENT UPON YOU!
every challenge to the idea of verification raised on this thread, has been dismissed by those who have instigated this system. nowhere have they presented any form of reasoned argument why this is either necessary or desirable, or what the specific intention is.
in the abscence of that information, one can only conclude that either, there is a hidden agenda which we are not allowed to know, or alternatively, there is in fact no reasoned argument which can adequately counter the weight of opinion of those horrified by this idea!
we now have something like 350 posts on this thread, yet those who claim the right to judge us in this way are nowhere to be seen. i leave you to draw your own conclusions.
and that's pretty much me done. i only came back to watch SH finally descend into chaos, cliques, and open warfare. and i'm a bit sick seeing it.
neil x x x ;)
well that's just it isn't it Angel Chat?
the system has been imposed by a select few, without any discussion whatsoever, and despite this thread now running at 16 pages, in the main all comments from the ops who imposed this system have been along the lines of just STFU and don't question it?
well sorry but the ops do not a site make. it's members do. and the longer those members are kept in the dark, the greater the speculation as to the real agenda here?
they have taken it upon themselves to make judgements about your private life! whether you like it or not! you no longer define yourself or your involvement here. a shadowy committee does that for you, and if you chose not to play along then you are effectively categorised as a non-genuine member of this site. is that what any of us want to see, because that is what has just happened!
i think it's time someone posted something sensible. i know this must have been discussed among the ops, so clearly it has been reasoned out at some point? we however are not privy to that reasoning?

okay. as it stands then . . .
the system is unworkable. it adds nothing, and detracts from what SH has always been about. we deny the existence of cliques all the time, but right now, one little clique of users have requested this from SH and as a result another bigger clique of users has been created without discussion.

and no i ain't back mike. just stumbled across this needing to get some addys off a coupla profiles and send a few pm's. ;)

Well as you are Akicked from the chatroom, and will remain so, for abusing other roomies it doesn't really affect you does it neil?
Steve
sorry steve i figured this was an open debate among site members where opinions are allowed to be shared on this? sorry if i felt i had something to add on this?
humble apologies.

a certain small number here have imposed a system, that splits the site into two camps, using an arbitrary definition of what constitutes a swinger, and confers special status on a number of users, who happen at this point to be known to them.
if you have a + you are known by us, and you swing!
simple that one. except obviously where the + has already been given to those who don't swing, but we'll sort that out if you request us to remove the status we have just conferred on you. anyways, so long as you match their definition of what makes a swinger, you'll be fine, which seems a bit arbritary, but we'll leave that one for now. ok.
if you don't have a + either . .
you are not known by us.
you are known to us, but you don't swing.
you are known to us, and may swing, but by our definition you cannot be classified.
you are known to us, you definitely swing, but reject the notion of verification.
you are known to us, you definitely swing, but you exercise discretion and prefer not to go before a committee to say i've just shagged so and so.
you are not known to us, but might swing we can't really say.
in what sense does that clarify anything for anybody? dunno
to get the +, which whether you like it or not, will be seen to confer special status, you need to be verified by someone with a +. well what if i swing with people here, but i just don't fancy any of you with the +? so i go forever unverified and remain a second class citizen by those who see the + as having special status on SH? i am classed as non-genuine, by people who know bugger all about me, and will probably now make less effort to find out about me, cos clearly i must be non-genuine because the SH powers have made that decision on my behalf?
the system is unworkable. it adds nothing, and detracts from what SH has always been about. we deny the existence of cliques all the time, but right now, one little clique of users have requested this from SH and as a result another bigger clique of users has been created without discussion.

hmmmmmmmmmmmm!!!!!!!
this has gotta be the single worst, most divisive, most nonsensical, most pandering, most clique establishing idea, i have ever ever seen!
SH is a resource! and it involves many kinds of people! some people come here as swingers already, some people come here out of curiosity wondering if they can swing, and SH helps them discover that, some people come here purely because the people here are some of the best you could ever hope to meet. some like to forge a friendship before they even consider the kind of intimacy involved in swinging! you are now seeking to discount god knows how many members who might wanna swing with you, but haven't yet earnt a little + !!
so . . . we are now saying, if you go into the chatroom, and you don't have a + before your name, well clearly you're a timewasting twat who deserves no further recognition? obviously a newbie, or non-swinger, or whatever. what happened to the advice we all dish out to newbies? get to know people? establish friendships? discover "like minded" people? a common phrase the like minded thing. you'll hear it everywhere! so that's all bollox now is it? all it takes is a + before your name, and jobs a good un!? dunno
we now have a system that panders to the "i can't tell who's a real swinger" mentality? well, sorry, but surely it's much easier for all concerned, and that includes ops and site admin and mods as well as you lot, to actually talk to someone, and discover if they might want to swing with you? it's not tricky! that's what chatrooms are for! you just type things into a little box, and people respond. it's really that easy! they're either swingers who wanna swing with you, or they ain't. try putting a little effort in. you want it all done for you with a little + ? does the little + mean that they won't get cold feet and decide you just ain't for them, or is it a guaranteed shag, just cos they've shagged someone on the site they know before? :dunno:
does the verification system mean that people will go all out for a simple shag with a verified member, that doesn't really suit you all, and kinda defeats the whole point of swinging as far as many members are concerned, just so they can get a little + too? will they now pursue people who either have a little +, or know people who can get them a little +, not cos it's a kind of sexual exploration thing that has you mutually satisfied, but rather cos well actually without the little + you can give them they're nothing on this site? i like to think if someone wants to shag me they wanna shag me personally, not my virtual chatroom status.
and who do you think is gonna get pm'ed to death now? those non + members or those with a little + ! so the ops really wanna look like they're defending the clique all the time by kicking the trolls who bombard the members with a + ? well lets see where the complaints arise then? glad i ain't opping the room with that kinda pressure i can tell you!
i'm struggling to martial my thoughts on this, cos i find the whole idea ludicrous! who gives me the + ? a committee? that i may not know? and if i do know 'em and they give me the + does that make me part of a cliquey elite? so all it takes is i shag a mod at a party somewhere, and suddenly i'm part of the SH chatroom incrowd?
what if i don't know the committee, or don't want the + cos actually it might serve to give the wrong idea? how do i win then? i either have it, and assume a certain status i may not want, or i reject it, and assume a certain status i may not want? what if i actually don't want the committee to know that i've shagged someone? possibly discretion counts? what then? so we aren't swingers cos we try to be discrete? or do we just seek the first opportunity to shag someone on the committee? oh well that's a novel approach to the whole issue of "like-mindedness" that we all cherish, and the "instant shag brigade" that we all reject isn't it?
catch 22 all round that one eh?
this has got to be the most divisive decision i can imagine, on a site that has always prided itself on it's inclusiveness?
what an absolute nonsense! and i'll get accused of a knee jerk now, but sorry this has got to be something that the members here that i think i know fight against.
