yes they should be allowed to march..at a time when and where the police say so...so long as the march is orderly and peaceful.
We have the right to freedom of speech, freedom to make oneself heard. even if the diatribe being spouted is opposed to the majority.
Freedom of speech does not allow you to say offensive and intimidating things though.

Then you do not have freedom of speech.

As a democrat of course I have to extend to them the same right to freedom of speech, freedom of association, and freedom to peacefully protest I would claim for myself, even if they ((( The EDL that is. How dare they even claim to be defending Englishness and the English. They do not speak for me. ))) are fascist cunts through and through. Course, by the same token I and others ((( The LUAF. ))) can claim the same right to challenge them publicly, peacefully.
Those who choose to engage in violent disorder at such events will quite rightly be picked off by the police and arrested, so I'm generally opposed to bans on marches purely because the potential that some might choose to commit criminal offences exists. We don't ordinarily police things like that, second guessing what someone might choose to do at some future point in time. All a bit Minority Report that if you ask me?

banghead :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:
My ironymeter has just gone off the charts.
The EDL, as inarticulate and clumsy as they are, are protesting against one of the most right wing, authoritarian, illiberal, intolerant, fascistic, misogynist, gay hating doctrines to ever threaten the UK. The EDL was born in Luton when a group of Muslims disrupted a homecoming parade by British soldiers after a tour in Iraq.
The Muslim population of the UK is doubling every ten years (the 2011 census will be very interesting) and if you want to see the future and just how well communities get on with each other take a trip round Oldham, Luton, Tower Hamlets, Blackburn, Burnley, Leicester or Birmingham. Just when do you think it might be a good idea to protest against such a doctrine? In a few years when the UK population is 25% Muslim? Or wait a few more years until its 50% Muslim?
As for the EDL marches the majority of arrests are from the UAF, a group who utterly fail the self awareness test. They call themselves Unite Against Fascism then go onto the streets to prevent free speech through intimidation and violence. You couldn't make it up. It would be so funny if it were not all so potentially dangerous.
Me personally I believe in live and let live, trouble is most religions (with some being far worse than others) really do not believe in that at all.
Housing Benefit is a subsidy to fat cat buy to let landlords. If it were abolished totally rental prices would crash through the floor. You have to question why Labour and the left oppose the limiting of this benefit. Either they all have a nice fat property portfolios or more likely they have no first clue about the most basic economic fundamentals.
The last Labour governments handling of the economy being another prime example of this.
If the supposed mansion tax was levied on £5m plus properties it would ensure only the true super wealthy were involved but the main problem is that once it is introduced just like every other tax it will eventually tax us all. It might start at £2m but then it will be £1m then £0.5 until anyone who owns any property will be hit.
Income tax was introdced on the wealthy to pay for beating Napoleon look where we are now banghead
This barmy new proposal is just another example of some backbench muppet getting a bee in his bonnet about how they need to be seen doing something. The law as it stands needs no altering.
MP's we just have too many of them and most of them are not that bright.banghead
Whatever the cause of the crash the captain should NOT have left the ship, end of story. For that alone he is rightly condemned.smackbottom

Not surprised at all by:
The source of the story.
The OP
The responses.
All of whom seem to share an agenda which does not appear to be fuelled by love or tolerance.

Importing millions of people from the third world taking jobs and prospects away from those already here tends to have that effect on a population. I worked 50 hours a week as a delivery driver, hard, dirty, physical work. This woman "earns" more than I did.
The UK government is borrowing £500,000, a day just to keep things ticking over, tax take is over 50% and the government spends more as a GDP% than the Eastern Bloc did before the fall of communism. 85 graduates for every single job, millions not even able to qualify to count as unemployed, over a million young people unemployed and still the UK imports more and more people.
Economic reality trumps "peace and tolerance" every time.

So you seriously want us to waste our time replying to people we never wanted to hear from in the first place?

Must be nice to be in such demand lol
Is Diane Abbott a racist? I have no idea but she has a history of making such comments
Is what Diane Abbott said racist? No not really
Do I give two hoots? No not really
Is what Diane Abbot said racist under the laws that she and other left wing PC types voted for? Absofeckinglutely and that is why she should be sanctioned for it.
Unlike the Tories who are very quick to get shot of a failed leader Labour are the exact opposite they are too loyal. Anyone but a dyed in the wool Labour voter can see that Milliband will never win an election but he will be their leader in 2015.

As this was the lead story in tonight's news, can anyone give me some good reasons why Scotland would want to break away from England, Wales and Northern Ireland?
And are there any reasons why Scotland should stay in the Union?

English taxpayers money.

Or is it better to spend, spend, spend?

and by paying out extra unemployment beniefit, and getting less tax in...we are not spending !! Personally I would rather see money spent on extra teachers, extra nurses, extra policemen...than unemployment beniefit for those same teachers, nurses and policemen !!
Unemployment is an unavoidable part of economics, it simply cannot be avoided. All attempts to create full employment only put off economic reality until a later date. Any attempt to do this will end in such an economic crash that it then would be easier to count those in work than those out of it.
And as for the usual talk of teachers, nurses, doctors etc etc if these folk were the only people on the government payroll then there would not be a problem unfortunately there are countless thousands being paid by taxpayers who add zero net worth at all.
PS We can't spend spend spend anymore as a fat chunk of what we are spending now is borrowed, the only reason we are not in a situation worse than Greece is because we have the £ and the government is going to use inflation to reduce our debts.
To everyone make sure all your savings are in inflation proof assets or you will lose the lot over the longer term. Remember when a penny sweet cost a penny? £5 for a loaf of bread is not that far off!
The only thing these people have accomplished is to close St Pauls for the first time since the war and stopping pilgrims going in to pray.

Marxism advocates the single most inefficient economic system ever invented by man nor beast and every time it has ever been attempted the people live in misery, poverty and in fear of the state.
All UK laws come from the EU, the USA manages an upper house of 100 and lower house of 435. Basically the UK needs to kick out all the Lords and 400 MP's.
Plenty of economists saw the crash coming and plenty of rich folk sold their assets before the crap hit the fan. As for the 50p tax rate, first it is just plain immoral for the state to take half of anyones income, second it raises next to no revenue at all and lastly it already means that multi national corporations are forming new departments or new teams in other countries rather than here.
It is a symbolic envy tax that raises no revenue at all.
Single guys do get shafted on the swinging scene and not in the way we are after lol
It is basic numbers and human nature.
Men as a rule have a higher sex drive than women as well as being more up for casual encounters and on the "scene" this means that there are LOADS more guys than girls hence we get ripped off for £50 to get in a club where for a single girl its £5 or even free. PLus when you get in the club you find it to be a total sausage fest anyways.bolt
No matter how nice, friendly attractive nor how much of an effort you make single guys are all after the tiny number of women who are actually looking for single men so therefore alot of the time it is an utter waste of effort. This of course leads to getting frustrated banghead Still there is no point in bitching about it.
Sometimes I think it would be enlightening for the women on here to get the same treatment blokes get, ie no attention whatsoever coupled with rude rebuffs if you dare talk to anyone that is if they have the good manners to reply at all.
There you go mini rant over, I'm not complaining just stating the way things are!
