I'd love to join you, but I am working that morning, 0100-1300 so will get to you during the main event. Enjoy the drinks!
This is going to be the biggest ever birthday party ever thrown for me. Thanks SH.

Just to let you all know ......
If you are travelling down on the 19th, you may encounter a bit of traffic on the
motorway as Manchester United are playing West Bromwich Albion, and it's a sell out.
So if coming down from up north you may want to set out a little earlier.

Surely that is more applicable to those travelling from London?

Never mind Essex, never mind. T'was but a throwaway comment on your pretend occasional brusqueness and enjoyment of the odd joke that would cause a sharp intake of breath among the PC brigade on FB but I know that underneath that hard cockernee tinged, bah humbug exterior is a misunderstood pussycat just dying to get out lol

Again, I'm still not sure what you are getting at. I'm just purity and innocence, according to a post left on my Facebook wall just now.

Rudeness has never stopped you before Essex, why start now? :P

I'm not sure what you are getting at.
Seeing as my birthday is on May 19th, I suppose it would be rude not to.....
Oh, and a hotel list would be welcome. Ta.
I haven't become lazy, the scene that I once found has lost it's sparkle, or more to the point, I got past it's novelty. Therefore I don't bother any more.

I personally play on my own

I do the same, and I always look forward to getting new socks on my birthday. saves having to use the curtains.
I think Hodgson is the best choice for England manager.
He has vast experience, including managing Inter Milan, he performed miracles with the Swiss national side. He got one of the biggest jobs in English football, by going to Liverpool, and would have done better, had the club not been owned by Hicks and Gillett, and it is obvious he didn't get the full 100% support and effort from the squad there. And he also did a fantastic job with West Brom, and helped them punch above their weight.
Yes, much negative comment is said, but I think people are judging him too soon.
I think we can safely write off Euro 2012, but I also think we should look to World Cup 2014 and beyond to see any real shape to his squads/teams, and I think that he will look more to the younger players, looking at ability, rather than picking the 'superstar' players, as that is what we have always done. For far too long, players have been picked for their status, rather than their form, and that is what holds England back.
I'll admit, Galloway is not someone I would support, or vote for, but I'd rather see him in politics and Westminster, than not.

debating over whether we will reduce vat is never ever going to happen, so why bother debating it reely dunno

What a pointless comment.
What is the point in debating anything? Just throw in the towel and let it all happen. Surely the point of debate is to raise points, share opinion, educate and promote change? I am sadly seeing more and more of this attitude, and this is why nothing changes.
I saw the following in a thread in 'The Cafe' forum, and it left me open mouthed in my bewilderment:

That's good advice, and it applies to all areas of life.

Just re-reading this thread, and I despair at the above.
So it seems the general consensus is growing to be that if you don't like it, don't say your viewpoint, just shut up, be a good boy/girl and don't show any dissention, just toe the line.
A disgraceful viewpoint, to the point of being offensive.

Buy one get one free - be fair nobody can give things away, true we have loss leaders but we pay something for them, we want £xxxx pounds for it so we advertise it for twice the price then discount it for the sale.

I remember listening to the Jeremy Vine show, where someone revealed that what happens, is the supermarkets will blatantly tell makers/suppliers that they have to bear the cost of a BOGOF deal, or 3 for the price of two etc, and if they don't, they are threatened with the supermarket not stocking them in future.

I believe the attitudes of top flight players are disgraceful because of the money they are payed to play the game.
drug taking, racist abuse and constantly we read and hear about affairs, violent public disorder and sexual assaults from these so called stars because they think they are better than everyone because of the money and fame the game gives them.

This sort of behaviour is not exclusive to football, you will see this from people who work in factories, on sites, even from people who do not work at all.

the only modern high profile player who carries himself respectfully is beckham

Allegations of infidelity with Rebecca Loos and others would give people reason to argue against the above comment.

in truth. todays players are poor in skill and ability compared to pele, banks, hurst and moore. they would be outplayed and kicked off the park.

If the games you watch feature Heskey, Barton, Bramble etc, I'd agree with you, but there are many world class players who play with immense skill.
I am hugely gutted to have to say that I can't make this social. Hope you all have an excellent time. sad

Sadly the 'little england' mentality of some that wants the £, pints, gallons, etc.

Damn bloody right! And Temperature in Celsius not Fahrenheit, miles not kilometers etc.
It is nothing to do with a 'little england' mentality, but being someone who is English born and raised. I am not European, I do not want this country to become a federal state, and I do not want to lose our identity which includes the £, pints, gallons etc.
Rather than people try and change these aspects of this country, if they don't like what they see here, then go to another country that serves their needs. They have that freedom to do so.

Go fuck yourself.

OoooOOOOOoooo, check you out with the butthurt!
Look, have you seen what they charge down your way for water sports? Stupid money, that's what. Don't be thinking you'll get any sympathy from me when the watery boot's on the other foot. Suck it up!*
*Or not, as the case may be. Sucking on a pebble's meant to be a good alternative though?
You struck me to the core, letting Norfolk off the hook, and slating the county of my birth!
And no, I haven't seen what they charge, not tried it.
I'll forgive your outburst over a cup of tea that you make when I see you in April, you can even use Midland's water, seeing as they have so much of it.

i said a friend had said about keeping a good man down. i was just looking at what others thought essex. i know peeple on here hate murdoch essex but surely a man with vast business empires througout the world, he cannot surely be held accountable for some of his staff on a newspaper that he probably has very little day to day control of? he has editors who decide what to print and as far as i know was rupert murdoch found guilty of any wrong doing himself with regards to phone or e mail hacking essex? his son is a bit shady but the man himself came across in that enquiry of not having done anything wrong himself. that is how i saw it.
i have no agenda here essex as i only reed a newspaper about once a week but reed what others buy.

My apologies, the way you quoted your friend, I took it to mean you agree with the sentiment, and you applied it to Murdoch.
You say he cannot be held accountable, but I disagree. He is the owner of a newspaper, a medium that in the past, has had so much power, the editorials of the newspaper has actually decided elections, has actually put governments into power. And power is what he revels in, he has been ranked 13th most powerful person in the world (Forbes) and you don't get to that sort of position by overlooking the details, including what is going on at his papers. The editors are his generals, and I seriously doubt they are left to their own devices. There is no dispute that he is an excellent businessman, who has held dominant positions in any market he has chosen to enter. But I equally feel there are many, be they politicians, celebrities etc, that live in fear of how Murdoch can make or break them. And it is my belief that there are many people who has skeletons in the closet, and Murdoch holds the key to their freedom.

pretty much what i have stated above essex. was he personaly found guilty of anything essex? no just maybe he saw that some of his staff had, and then decided as the notw as a whole had acted inappropriatly that the only decision he could make, and for many the right thing, was to shut the whole thing down. i think that was more than anyone would have expected him to do thoiugh. dunno
at that enquiry if he was lying he certainly had me and many others fooled as he seemed very genuine in his appologies, and his apparent lack of knowledge of any wrong doings.

His ruthless streak is what shut the NOTW down, he was facing a shitstorm, and to protect his interests, he offered the closure of the NOTW as an olive branch, regardless of the cost. Looking at the bigger picture. Would have been easy to purge those that had done wrong, nobody would have thought any differently of him, but by closing the NOTW, he showed that he would do what it takes.

That's exactly it.
Starlight, you say about Murdoch that you can't keep a good man down, yet you recognise that he shut down a newspaper causing hundreds of people to be unemployed, due to Murdoch being the owner of a newspaper which employed people committing crimes, to benefit sales, and therefore Murdoch?
Doesn't sound like a good man to me.

That said I never send jokes etc by text or even email.
I am also very bad at returning calls, emails and messages but want people to reply back to mine - I know pot-kettle!

Just as well some of us tolerate you then.
To be honest, I had forgotten that incident, and had made no attempts to do any search on him either. Thank you for putting me straight.
I completely agree about your comments concerning Rio Ferdinand, he is hardly a paragon of virtue, the links you provide show clear evidence of that.
However, you say it is a family thing, and to be honest, Anton is nothing like Rio, I don't think for one second that Anton wanted to be in the middle of a race row, he strikes me as someone who just gets on with it, rather than Rio, who goes looking for it.

why is it that ferdinand continues to be at the front of a lot of this nonsense? obviusly runs in the family

Care to explain this one?

just seen the match max. did you see the way that innocent evra deliberatly ran over to suarez at the end of the match?
and ferguson states that suarez could have caused a riot? maybe he should look at his own players but funnily enough a manager never sees that in his own players, certainly never ferguson.
evra should face a ban himself for his disgusting act at the end. but they dare not act against evra.

Absolutely agree. Evra, it is alleged, was involved in a scuffle in the tunnel, which included Evra trying to enter the changing room of the away team, which is not the wisest thing to do. Shaking someone's hand is a mark of respect, and if Suarez doesn't like Evra, then it could be said that he chose to make the decision not to shake Evra's hand. For which a number of people are saying he was wrong to do. Among the comments I have read, are that Suarez was racist scum for not shaking Evra's hand, so if it is the case that Evra is a racist, why would he offer to shake Ferdinand's hand? Why is very little being said about Ferdinand's refusal to shake Suarez hand? Why did Evra try and seek retribution for the snub by Suarez at half time, a full 45 mins after the incident? After all, Evra was the team captain, surely he should know better, and lead by example?
Evra's actions at half time, and in his actions at the final whistle are potentially inciteful, and certainly lacked the professionalism that many have claimed he was, by being the 'bigger man' in offering to shake his hand.
Ferguson also could be considered to have been inciteful, saying that Suarez is a disgrace, and shouldn't play for Liverpool. Yet one of his players leapt into the crowd to assault a fan, one of his players deliberately set out to injure a player (ending the players career) yet Ferguson openly supported these players.

Read the news reports and it was the Liverpool Red Fanzine that was distributing these
banghead

The magazine was Red Issue, which is a united fanzine.

To be honest, this whole episode has become unnecessary, and leaves a sour taste in the mouth. Suarez should not have said what he did, Liverpool Football club were right to back, and support Suarez, but, IMO, they went about it the wrong way. Suarez was given a ban (rightly or wrongly) and served it. He did his crime, he served his time. That should have been the end of it. The handshake incident was again, unnecessary, but if truth be told, I actually agree with not shaking Evra's hand. If Suarez doesn't like him, then surely he is within his rights not to shake his hand? And if Evra was so upset with the comment's of Suarez, why would he even want to shake his hand?
Evra's behaviour on Saturday was unnecessary, As were Ferguson's comment's, and Dalglish has certainly came away from all this with little credit.
And there is undoubtedly more to come, more that will leave a bitter taste in many people's mouths.
