:fuckinghell: My wireless connection keeps cutting out for a few seconds every 20 minutes or so then reconnecting str8 away. It is driving me mad cause I get logged out of chatrooms when it happens. mad :x
Any ideas why this keeps happening to connection and how I can fix?
All help appreciated!

Hi...as well as interferance causing it have you altered any settings on your modem or router?? May be worth resetting the router to default settings....mine has a little reset button on the back...only do this if you know how to get it going again tho smile.....ie getting your security back on line mainly.....moving the router may help to.....trial and error i'm afraid....

Okey dokey- I have a another question....
we have a speedtouch modem supplied by Tiscali. Whilst our neighbours have their wireless disconnected rolleyes for the summer, I'm swapping the modem twixt the PC and my laptop. It runs fine on both, but it's annoying to keep moving it.
Right, as pooters are both set up to run on that modem, could I get a (plentiful) identical one on ebay, and just plug it in- or would it need to have the setup disk?
Would this enable me to run both pooters at once?
I know....pretty basic stuff, but I'm doing this for the benefit of others, you know!
wink

Ok first off I am completely against the use of someone elses wifi even if they are daft enough to not secure it.....this can cause no end of problems for them regards monthly usage etc....Apologies if you were just joking bout that....
Secondly what you need is a wifi network of your own...routers are down to the 25-35 quid mark now so I would go down that road.....
Hi been away for a couple of days and am just catchin up on the threads smile.....Your firefox probs could be cured I am guessing by upgrading it......from this addy..

Give it a go anyway :)......
Thank goodness for peanut he really knows his bits and bytes......
Sounds like you have got it sussed smile.....I am goin down the usenet route now as portchanging didnt fox mr bransons tech guys lol it went off after 2 mins of downloading an episode of a series we are trying to watch :)....can you recomend a site for good uk usenet access i know i will have to pay....have seen one for a month so far....cheers Gary :)
Hi Fabio.....if you are payin for an upto 2mb connection thats a bit slow unless you tested it at a congested time....speeds do vary....also your location can limit your speed....a good test for this can be found at

pop your postcode in and it will tell you your current speed and your maximum available (via phone lines)....not sure how good the new mobile dongles are if they are affected by other factors like signal strength etc....Swapping from one isp to the other is far easier with broadband....most of the time you dont need to put their software in as its only a case of registering or activating their modem the first time you use it....We have a prob with virgin at the mo they are stopping folks downloading using torrents but other than that our speeds have always been as they should....Lots of isps claim speeds that are just not achievable on old phone lines etc so people are paying for a service that they will never get full advantage of.....
Cheers Gary smile
Cheers am experimenting now smile......you can pick random ports in bit torrent so have got another set.....also will try turning upnp off....will let you know...... cheers Gary :)...
P.s the ironic thing is i download next to nothing really....a few 350 meg tv programs a month....perhaps 1 or 2 a week so they can hardly complain....
Ok tried Bit torrent now and that dont work on virgin any more.....anyone else havin similar trouble??
Gary xx
Think my last post needs the attention of peanut.....have limited my upload and download speeds but to no avail.....have to try an older version of bitcomet if i can find it on one of my sticks.....cheers gary .....
Well done misskitty hope you and your new toy are very happy together smile...
Right my turn for some technical assistance now....we tend to download a few tv programs every month to watch via bitcomet...am not sure if virgin have done something but my lastest version of bitcomet kicks out after a few mins and the net goes off....i have to reboot the modem.....am not sure if this is to do with their downloading policy but we only download a very small amount....am wonderin if they dont like folks usin bitcomet any more....ah flash of inspiration as i typr this.....i wonder if my upload rate is set too high since i updated to newer bitcomet....off to try it lol ......
Cheers Gary xx
I usually go for the easier option and just pop the mem card out of my phone and use the card reader its far quicker than blue tooth........Gary xx
Not had any bother with ntl/virgin but then have never put their software in....best not....do recommend them as an isp tho....new modem today has activation software built in....quite clever i thought....obviously you only need it once to register your modem....all hunky dory after 10 mins smile
At long last Mr bransons guys have been round and we are now up and runnin on the interweb again smile Lookin forward to more if your technical headaches :) .....
Gary xxx
Hi smile apologies for my absense on here but have moved and am waitin for the interweb to be connected for us. Will leave you in the capable hands of peanut but dont forget the thread is open for anyone to help anyone havin a prob :). Am postin this with my phone so fingers crossed. See you all soon x x x gary

Vista Help - we have a fairly new HP desktop machine, running Vista Home Edition, 3gb RAM, 500 GB hdd (partitioned to 450 and 50gb) and 350 external drive which is for daily back ups. Less than 2 gb of stuff in My Docs, not many programmes installed (10gb max)but the hard drive is now showing that it only has 30gb free. No back ups are done on to the internal hard drive, all onto the external one.
I have done disk clean up (including all old restore points apart from the last one), defrag, and deleted all tmp files. I have also restricted the restore point size to 5gb but the hard drive is getting fuller by the day (at a rate of around 4gb per day)
Helllllppppppppp

Just incase anyone has any ideas on this
Hi.....
Right my money is on a virus causin this prob....try spybot search and destroy or something similar just in case your anti-virus missed something....also if it was mine I would reformat....after backin up your files to a memory stick first....then after the format scan your memory stick for viruses b4 restorin your files.....best of luck...

Hi....

Hi can you tell me is it as easy as it looks when you try to download windows XP over windows vista?
is there anything I should watch out for?

Hi why are you gettin rid of XP or do you mean over writing XP with Vista???
Windows should take care of it all....but back up alll your files first...obviously....another option is to create a dual boot pc by just installing windows into another directory.....windows will auto matically create a boot menu so you can choose between XP or Vista ...am not sure but I think you have to put Vista in first .... have not tried it tho ....Peanut will probably be on later and put us both right .....Also a Memory stick is made using flash memory so thats where the names get muddled but essentially all the same smile ...
