Absolutely, exactly what dambuster said - and I wanted to say it earlier on, but also didn't want to add fuel to the fire.
But NWC, it was NOTHING to do with you, and it was an absolutely brilliant and flawlessly organised munch, and I for one will never forgive you if you don't organise another one!

I hope you're feeling ok about it - it sounds as though you handled it perfectly, but I know there are always doubts. Just bear in mind what everyone here has said - it was nothing to do with you, it was just your bad luck that some idiot chose you to behave this way towards.
And thank you so much for being so brave and posting about it here - I think this has turned into a very valuable thread, both for newbies who might be worried about coming to a munch, and for the rest of us. It just shows what a bloody wonderful bunch of people the SH crowd is - weirdos like this are the (very, very rare) exception, and everybody else takes care of each other in a way I could never have imagined possible. I'm just so sorry that you had to have such a nasty experience, but at least something positive has come out of it - it's nice to be reminded just how caring and supportive this community is.

You know, getting to know girls is just like getting to know guys. Smile, be friendly, be interested, have conversations. About your course, since that's what you have in common. Then about everything else. Go for a coffee after a lecture, with a group if not on your own. Go for a drink. Be friendly, be interested, be interesting.
Then, girlfriend.... decide which of your new female friends you like. Choose one who's single, and not too scary, and seems to at least like you as a friend as well. Don't be obvious about it. Be a little friendlier to her, a little flirtier. Ask her out for a drink on her own. Keep getting to know each other. Do a sweet, vulnerable 'I think I like you'-stylee confession. Play the innocent card, some girls love that. Be prepared to get knocked back - as long as you're not creepy or stalker-ish about it, at least you've got a new friend.
Don't run around telling everyone you're looking for a girlfriend... make friends with some girls. We're actually very nice people, some of us. And the best things come to those who aren't looking for them.

Vix, was all inspired by yours and was running off to take some of my own, but I've just had one of those tearing-the-house-apart moments, and still can't find my camera. 
This is bad for two reasons....
a) I can't take a shower photo.... someone else is going to have to do it for me :twisted:
