The one thing that does kind of grate on me is the lack of learning. So many years of being on the net and being net heavy has improved at least some of my spelling and grammar if not all of it. I have noted many members who continually spell simple words incorrectly in the most obvious fashion. It does make me think can you not see that you are spelling that wrong five bloody times over when its written on the page correctly ten other times.

Yer see Tweeky, your use of a whole two spaces after a full stop as used above is an anachronism, according to some. You did it deliberately, cos you wouldn't hit space twice after a full stop so consistently by mistake?
You punctuated the following sentence like this:
So many years of being on the net and being net heavy has improved at least some of my spelling and grammar if not all of it.

I could also have done this:
So many years of being on the net and being net heavy has improved, at least, some of my spelling, and grammar, if not all of it.

^That might have an Oxford comma in it, after the 'spelling' and before the 'and'? I'm not entirely clued up on Oxford commas, but personally think the break is quite appropriate there? I'm aiming for rhythm. Whaddya reckon?
So many years of being on the net and being net heavy has improved, at least, some of my spelling and grammar, if not all of it.

Definitely no Oxford comma there. There's a comma pair allowing the removal of the 'at least', and the comma after grammar is an appropriate pause.
Question is Tweeky, which of them is right? D'you know, cos I sure fuckin' don't! ;)

By way of countering that with some sloppy sex, not especially filthy but sexy all the same . . .

kiss me goodbye
pushing out before i sleep
can't you see i try
swimming the same deep water as you is hard
the shallow drowned
lose less than we
the strangest twist upon your lips
and we shall be together
and we shall be together
kiss me goodbye
bow your head and join with me
and face pushed deep reflections meet
the strangest twist upon your lips
and disappear the ripples clear
and laughing break against your feet
and laughing break the mirror sweet
so we shall be together
so we shall be together
kiss me goodbye
pushing out before i sleep
it's lower now and slower now
the strangest twist upon your lips
but i don't see
and i don't feel
but tightly hold up silently my hands
before my fading eyes
and in my eyes your smile
the very last thing before i go
the very last thing before i go
the very last thing before i go
i will kiss you
i will kiss you
i will kiss you forever on nights like this
i will kiss you
i will kiss you
and we shall be together

....although you can try changing the image resolution to something like 600, select the entire image and copy it, opening a new document in a larger size to you original piccie but at something like TV res (72), paste in your saved image, scale to fit and see how it looks- it all depends on the compression/resolution on the original

Well yeah, obviously. I'm sure they already tried that though so was hardly worth mentioning? :uhoh:  bolt

Can't be done for a bitmap image, even with Photoshop and lots of clever filters. Enlarging a bitmap image by resampling / interpolation always means loss of detail. The enlargement process basically involves Photoshop or a filter type thing trying to fill in the gaps based on nearest colour, and while Photoshop does a decent enough job of it for small increases in scale the result will always be pixelated for larger ones. Simple solution is take a better quality image then scale down. Works much better.

I'm not sure that your wisdom extends to Israel. Israel will not stand by and allow Iran to obtain a nuclear weapon. . . . . Frightening scenario!

A frightening scenario indeed, and one likely to be the kick off to a little minor local difficulty in the area leading to a wider conflict. I'm massively conflicted on this. Iran is a signatory to the NPT, and have an absolute right to develop nuclear technologies for peaceful purposes, but the evidence seems to point absolutely to an attempt to acquire a nuclear weapon. Some would say that's understandable seeing as none-signatory Israel has them in spades, and it's a simple attempt to maintain influence in the general balance of power locally. They can't be allowed to acquire them though.
I'm pretty sure no matter how many sanctions you put in place, no matter how many nuclear scientists Mossad kill, they're likely to have a bomb at some point if left to their own devices. Plucky little Israel is in no way gonna allow that to happen and will just steam in, as per most of their engagements with threats ((( perceived or actual ))) to them in the region. That's gonna spark God knows how wide a conflagration. I fear it.
How does this in any way disprove the fact that there is a general trend, that trend being a higher rate of job loss in the North, how many more times? It's not a difficult concept to understand Rob? You're disproving nothing.
As for the map, if you're gonna link to it as though it some way proves your point at least interpret it correctly. So there are pockets of deprivation in the South. Well done. I'm sure none of us knew that. What is the general tone of the map? Pale blue in the bulk of the South, darker blue in the bulk of the North. Where you have dark blue areas in the South they tend to be concentrated on areas like London which I have already said on this thread is a somewhat special case, having large pockets of deprivation, and in the far South West, which again we know has problems. Where you have paler areas in the North it is in predominantly rural areas, the band from North Yorkshire across to South Lakeland for example. There is still a line running across the map from the Bristol Channel in the West to the Wash on the East Coast below which things are on balance very much better than in the North.

a fact from the bbc site neil
The unemployment rate was highest in the North East, at 11.6% and lowest in the South East at 6.3%.
i make that 2-1 not 4-1 but that would depend on what advantage is to made from spin
R xxx wink
Almost the exact same I linked to on page one Rob funnily enough, give or take a few percentage points, but having found the you got those figures from mine are more current.
Again, you are missing the point. Noone said, certainly not I, certainly not The Guardian, that unemployment is four times higher in the North than in the South. It's the rate of change the report is concerned with. i.e. Which area is losing jobs faster. Different thing altogether, so your quote of the stats there is irrelevant to that discussion. ((( Thought they would of course tend to confirm the North / South divide that you've been at such pains to deny exists? ))). Unemployment up 18% in the North, 4.5% up in the South on the previous year. That's based on claimant counts produced by Govt departments for the Govts own use. What's 18 / 4.5 Rob?

Trouble is that is simply not happening. The second and third gerneration Muslims are MORE radical and less likely to integrate than those that first arrived here.

The word you are looking for here is some. Some second and third gerneration Muslims are MORE radical. They are in no way the majority, or even a particularly large minority. The number belonging to or actively supporting groups like Al-muhajiroun is minute relative to the Muslim population as a whole. They do not represent the vast majority of Muslims who remain moderate in outlook, do integrate, and want their children to have all the advantages that brings in British society.
You simply cannot ignore them and you simply cannot equate the EDL with groups such as Al-Muhajiroun. These groups are actively involved in raising money to commit acts of violence, not silly organised marches and the like but real acts of violence. Bombs or taking down aircraft. They are also involved in recruiting and radicalising young men and women. They cannot be ignored they have to be policed and challenged. It is not some harmless bearded bloke making a tit of himself if only it were. For every successful prosecution of a terrorist for an attempted attack there are a number that are stopped that never reach the publics attention. It is only a matter of time before another attack is successful.

And you think the EDL does anything whatsoever to counter this radicalisation among young Muslims? They are the polar opposite of an effective counter to the radicalisation you describe. As for protecting us from Islamic terror again, how are they protecting us from that exactly? The only effective counter to that is in the control of the security services and police, as I stated in my previous post. The EDL are at best an irrelevance, at worst completely counter-productive inasmuch as they create an atmosphere that may make the kind of radicalisation they claim to deplore more likely, as young Muslims turn to a more radical expression of Islam in the face of such attacks on them. That's what tends to happen when you feel your identity threatened, isn't it? You cling to it all the harder and assert it more strongly
Your last line just demonstrates you have swallowed the BBC and Guardian propaganda. The BNP and the EDL loath each other and one of the founders of the EDL is a Sikh.

I've swallowed nothing. I did not claim that all EDL members are racist thugs aligned with the BNP did I? I gave a list which included hooligans, casuals and BNP thugs. Didn't say you necessarily have to be a knuckle dragging fascist to join. I am well aware that they have support from some you would not expect to align themselves with a fascist or racist organisation, Guramat Singh being one such example. But then there is a strong historical antipathy between Muslims and Sikhs going back to at least the 17th Century, isn't there, so why should we be surprised? He seems to think he's some sort of warrior fighting the Moghul hordes in the grand Sikh tradition. Interesting that he's come under immense pressure to renounce his stance with the EDL from within his own community. I wonder what it is they know about the EDL that has led them to take that position?
As for the BNP and EDL loathing each other, I'm sure Nick Griffin hates them. They're stealing all his thunder aren't they, getting better press than he ever had, but explain then the EDL's links with the British Freedom Party, an organisation formed by resigned BNP members dissatisfied with Nick Griffin's leadership. The BFP is just the BNP by another name in terms of its leadership and core values. Explain why it is you have current and ex-BNP core activists like Tommy Robinson ( Steven Lennon ) right up there at the top, or people like Chris Renton ( EDL website admin ) and Davy Cooling ( Luton EDL Facebook page admin ), people like Richard Price ( Organiser Birmingham protest. ) or Combat 18 thugs Alan Thompson and Barry Osborne ( Stoke protest ). What are they doing with the EDL given they 'loathe' each other. If either of us have swallowed anything it's you, falling for the official line. It's fucking bullshit, as even the most cursory investigation will confirm.
so metal theft is a new thing is it i remember as a kid watching local rouges steal the covers off lamp posts, man hole covers have been missing for years. security has come on leaps and bounds and a growth industry because cctv is cheaper than a night security guard its not really rocket science, well not for some of us

Hardly my point Rob, and what's more you know it. The point is that some sectors and some individual companies may be doing well, or better than they were at least but that does not make the stats showing that jobs are being lost in the North four times as fast as they are in the South bunk. The stats are compiled from data supplied by agencies like the DSS showing how many are signing on as newly unemployed. Those stats are objectively true. They require no interpretation whatsoever as far as the different rate of change North and South is concerned.
funny no mention of how many people moved to Internet shopping or ebay etc, how many big tescos morrisons or asdas had put most of your local shops out of business
and no mention of how many big shopping centres has forced the high street out of business
you might like to know every tescos employee is = to one shop and four employees

How is this relevant to the discussion? I'm talking about a study on job losses. Not the ones you're on about about changes in shopping habits, a trend which would tend to be similar across the board North and South BTW I would imagine. Keep up Rob FFS!
The EDL, as inarticulate and clumsy as they are, are protesting against one of the most right wing, authoritarian, illiberal, intolerant, fascistic, misogynist, gay hating doctrines to ever threaten the UK.

I agree that radical Islam runs counter to everything I believe in. The EDL though are in no way an effective method of countering hatred and intolerance. They simply pour petrol on the flames and further polarise things, drawing in those who previously may have had no strong opinions whatsoever but who now feel a need to take sides. You do not defeat hate-mongering and intolerance then by taking to the streets as a mob, intimidating those you claim to be defending us from with what is in essence the threat of violence, and do not tell me there is no such intimidation because I have seen it. It is a common denominator of their demos thus far.
if you want to see the future and just how well communities get on with each other take a trip round Oldham, Luton, Tower Hamlets, Blackburn, Burnley, Leicester or Birmingham.

Please don't patronise me. You know nothing about me or my life experience. I'm all too familiar with the kind of ghettoised insularity of some muslim populations in areas like Harehills and Beeston in Leeds, having lived in both those areas for many years. It's a problem I think, because it works against integration for first generation immigrants to a large extent, but faced with general hostility from large sections of the white population it is hardly surprising that many muslims prefer to live in close knit communities where their particular needs can be catered to, same as what happened with black immigrants who came over in the 50s and 60s before them. It's simple safety in numbers. What tends to happen though is that second and third generations become more integrated and westernised having being exposed all their lives to British culture, British schools and the workplace, and feel less of a need for such insularity.
As for the EDL marches the majority of arrests are from the UAF, a group who utterly fail the self awareness test. They call themselves Unite Against Fascism then go onto the streets to prevent free speech through intimidation and violence. You couldn't make it up. It would be so funny if it were not all so potentially dangerous.

And the EDL of course are all fluffy bunnies who would never think to use violence to further their political ends, aren't they? I would like to see these stats of yours that prove that most of the arrests made are of UAF members and other protesters against the EDL. It matters little though; those who choose to use violence or the threat of violence are to be condemned out of hand whichever side they take, except where used in self-defence, or in defence of others. The true purpose of going onto the streets in opposition is not to deny the EDL their right to free speech and peaceful protest. It is to challenge what they have to say for themselves and show that the ludicrously named English Defence League cannot claim in any way to speak for 'The English'. It is the very expression of free speech and peaceful protest, so please check your irony meter, it would appear to be faulty.
The way to deal with the EDL is simply to ignore them. By confronting them as the UAF do it just gives the EDL more publicity, attention and highlights their agenda

I actually agree with this in the main. By the same token the way to deal with Islamofascists like Al-Muhajiroun and their ilk is to ignore their attention seeking public pronouncements and thus treat them with the contempt they deserve. It's up to the security services and police to deal with those who truly pose a threat to us but a bearded bloke parading about shouting oscenities is doing a good enough job of making a twat of himself as far as most reasonable, intelligent people are concerned as it is, without the help of football hooligans, casuals and racist thugs aligned with the BNP.

should we set up some refugee camps dya recon

Please present stats to back up your argument. I'm only asking cos I would like to think the ONS employ people who know what stats are, and how they work, so as to help Govt make informed decisions. If you're telling me they're all idiots and you know better I think I need to be having a word with 'em. Perhaps we could pay you millions of pounds a year to collect all the data for us instead, on the understanding it better be accurate cos otherwise it's gonna get ripped to bits, assuming you put it up into the public domain in the first place?
So Rob . . . . these stats you've got for us?
Alright Rob, I'll play.
What sort of products do you sell, and to what sort of customers? We need more information you see if we're gonna work out if the general stats are shite just cos you seem to be doing well out of people in the North who also happen to be doing well? confused I doubt that makes the stats shite at all, but knock yaself out. If you think you know better, we're all waiting?
I refer you to Foxy's eloquent post. By way of what most people in the science trade would no doubt call 'anecdotal evidence' the Leeds based company I work for is doing well too, but then it's in the security industry, and first thing businesses and people think of in a recession is their security cos they've all seen metal thefts on the news so hardly surprising.
What's your angle, and how does that disprove the general stats? I'll give you a clue. It doesn't.

Blue, inner London has a dynamic all of its own. Nowhere else in the country do you have such a concentrated mass of people so diverse in socio-economic status so tightly pressed cheek by jowl over so large an area. London has truly vast, almost beyond imagining extremes of wealth and poverty living good as side by side. You've got The City proper and Westminster a 5 minute tube ride from some of the most deprived areas of the country. It's kinda unique IMO. Soon as you get out of the inner cities and satellite boroughs it's a different story altogether in the South and South East.

Warwick. I like your story, but believe improvements could be made on it.
It would have been more heart-warming if the confectionary in question was Werthers Originals, lovingly purchased for a young grandson, the first such butter candy type suckable sweet purchased by said elderly gentleman for said young'un. We would all have aaaahed quite naturally at that point.
Then, and this is where you could truly have injected some pathos into the story, you reveal that the old gentleman in question was holding up not the big bag of the aforementioned delightfully creamy refined sugars featured in all those soft-focus adverts, but a tube, a tube I tell you, pondering how much even so trifling a treat costs these days because that's all he could afford out of his pension, thanks to all the Tory govt cuts, the bastards. mad It would have been a winner mate. . . . . .
Keswick is very close, and we went to Carlisle to do lots of shopping

And you think that tells us what? That Cumbria is a tourist area where much of the spend is from visitors looking to be catered to? How might that have a peculiarly local dynamic I wonder, that could not in any sense be extrapolated from in any meaningful way vis a vis the rest of the North? I mean, go to Blackpool in august you'll find kiss-me-quick hat vendors are doing a roaring trade, but it's not likely we could draw conclusions from that that would apply equally to Leeds, is it? And of course, the fact you have lots of shops closed locally to you is not to say that things aren't worse in the North either? Things are quite often relative you see.

No. It simply proves that there are always exceptions that prove the rule. The research is obviously framed in general terms, your experience is quite a particular example. That doesn't disprove the stats.
Not worth thinking about? Did they actually say that? The North / South divide is growing alarmingly. Four times as many jobs are being lost in the North as elsewhere in the country, and accelerating:

We should not be surprised. The country is effectively run for the benefit of those living in the South when a Tory govt is in power because that's their main constituency. The Labour voting North is less important to them. Thus it was, thus it ever shall be.

Amongst all the positives, all the friends , the thing I was most surprised to find was narrow minded bigotry .... I must be very naive

In terms of that being the very last thing I expected to find I have to echo this. When I joined I knew next to nothing about swinging, or swingers, and as such was very naive. ((( Some might say I still am in many respects? ))) I imagined that swingers must by definition be deep thinkers posessed of deep emotional intelligence, to have so gone against societal norms and opened up their relationships to third parties. It came as quite a shock when I eventually realised they can be every bit as petty and close-minded as the rest of society, quite often claiming this particular personal liberty for themselves while being seemingly unprepared to extend to others a similar freedom in other areas. Sexuality would be just one example where you'll frequently find some are not nearly so open-minded as I once imagined, which seems completely at odds with 'the lifestyle' for want of a better word.
