Why do have visions of Borg when the SH ladies are on a roll "Resistance is futile"
I have visions of Elliot, Steve, Martin etc. at one of blues parties before long tied up, blindfolded and playing one of Mal's party games.

Good luck guys. cool

is option one of the poll meant to say 'it can be improved'?? otherwise, it doesnt exactly give us many options!! lol

I have amended it!!! confused :?
Can you also make it say Logo instead of Log sarge? - looks like you may have a full time job here.
In answer to Steph and Dawn I think this forum has always been here to talk about things, people are still going to do that in the absence of actual information - this may actually be a good thing as it will show our new owners some of the things people feel strongly about and may result in them shelving some plans they had without them implementing them and then there being a big uproar.
If we all waited for the full facts before discussing things conversation would be pretty boring.

Good points by Silk & BigG and Postie,
This is of course one of the problems even if the current content stays 100% free for those of us who are already here. It is inevitable that the posts, pictures, stories, parties etc. that are done by the current membership will be used as an advertising tool to make money.
Of course this does mean the new owners are probably being quite honest about their intentions to keep the site free for current members - in the end they couldn't get better advertising for the site if they tried.
I am not quite sure how I feel about that though - I am not very keen on what I type for pleasure being used by someone else to make money however if it means this community is able to stay together maybe it is worth it?

So they say... and anyway, people with really small fonts can still do other things with their smilies :P

I agree. You see many people writing with their CAPS -- LOCK on. Just because they have big letters doesn't make them good posters
I suppose people that type with CAPS -- LOCK and large fonts may be trying up for poor eyesight dunno :giggle:
I can't think why?

Well now I reckon the Mods deserve a quiet drink as much if not more than anyone - so the sentiment is great and hussar to it - but what recent events have shaken us all ? Did we sleep through it , or were we drunk ?

rotflmao :rotflmao: banghead :banghead: :banghead:
Only you guys would post that. lol
Very well put and I agree 100% - if you try and talk shop to the mods at a munch prepare to have a beer on your head.

Bugger! I didn't see this thread. Please see here for a welcome from me biggrin
By the way, is this the place to ask for site enhancements? Here are some that come to mind:
1) Can we have a post count in the panel to the left - just under our avatars?
2) How about some form of member verification scheme?
Also, is there something wrong with the SH server clock dunno
:giggle: That's my free membership up in smoke bolt

That is pure evil!!!!! lol

Everyone, apart from a couple of newbies i am still in contact with or waiting to see lots of action from,is now on the main may be a bit of a squeeze, but what the heck!
We do have the venue, but the details wont go out until within a week of the MUNCH.
Anyone who needs hotel space and hasn't contacted us for a list, please do so.
If you have asked us for a list and we haven't responded redface sorry, please PM again.
PLEASE NOTE:----The list is now well and truly closed, the venue will burst if we allow any more in.
At this point, there isn't much point having a reserve list as we have too many on the main list already.........
If we have the chance to reopen the list,we will of course do so..........

I'll add my voice to this one - don't always agree with them, in fact quite often manage a good arguement with them and I am sure I will again. However as has been said I am sure a very difficult time for them and their continued presence is as always appreciated.

Hey - I resemble that remark!
I think someone should volunteer to mentor our newbie owners - I would put myself forward except for two reasons. One I am not on the mentor program, two I dont think they'd ever be the same again. lol

Mark gave you this site, your friends, your social life and your swinging life - he owes you nothing. He gave you a lot and you have given nothing! Now, how he choses to move on with his life is none of your business. Those who actually KNOW Mark appreciate the dilemna he was put under and those of you who don't know him have no idea. Be grateful that you've had the time here that you have had. If the site folds then you've gained a shedload of good stuff and if the site remains it'll be because people have pulled together. Either pull with us or move on out. Message is the same.
rolleyes

Fair comment - however I do have two reservations.
Firstly, those of us who do not "Know" Mark in real life have only his posts to go on the same as we do with everyone else we haven't met yet, and to suggest that therefore our opinions are less important merely underlines that "c" word that we dont talk about.
Secondly, the site does exist because of Mark, however it would be a bit silly to forget that its success is due to all the people who make it up.
Roger.
I don't suppose this would be a good point to say that newbies generally have to get themselves known before receiving munch invites?
Welcome to the site guys, as other people have said "Try not to fuck things up". wave
I am sure the site will change fundamentally, whether that turns out to be for the better or worse I think will depend on individuals points of view and the reasons why they are here.

It's all very well saying that this was a choice that Mark had to make. God knows, I am well aware of how the smallest of web sites can consume your life. BUT, did he have to do it the way that he did, selling the community in effect? If he valued the fact that this site is free so much - as in the 'This is a Free Site' section - then why could he not have offered it to the moderators to run as a co-operative? Why couldn't he have asked ANYONE to step into his shoes as a way of keeping everything free.
Brian and Sue.

And why is it wrong to get some kind of monetary compansation for all his work?
He has a young family to consider - he has given up so much of his time in the past 3+ years and we have benefited from that. It is only right he gets some benefit from it too.
I wonder how many of the members of this community actually made a donation to help with site admin? Not very many I reckon - perhaps if we all had, Mark could have employed someone to assist him. This was a service he provided at no cost to us but at great cost to him and his family.
I wish everyone would stop berating him and just be bloody grateful he bothered to do it in the first place.
So many ungrateful sods on here - I am stunned!
I am not so sure that it is ingratitude so much as a feeling that the underlieing principles of the site have changed - the whole basis behind Swinging Heaven is/was that it is/was free. It is one of the first words in the site description and it has been refered to repeatedly by the Mods as justification for what is or isnt permitted, it underlies the ethics of what munches and parties are allowed and in my opinion it is fundemental to what Mark wanted for the site. I think it is a shame that someone has respected as he was within the site has seen fit to hand on the site in the manner he has - I think he has probably done himself and his values more of a dis-service than he has to any of us.
If that feeling makes me ungrateful then so be it. I wont pass judgement on the new owners as we are yet to see what they will actually do, maybe Mark's legacy will depend on how wisely he has chosen the people to continue with the site.
Roger.

That's a bit harsh Roger! And rather selfish.
Surely you don't begrudge Mark having some kind of life of his own after all the hard work he has put in for us. Work he never got anything for (exept hassle from the whingers) until now.
I hope he received an obscene amount of money for this site and I hope he and his family enjoy every penny. Mark - if you are watching - good on ya!
His selfless hard work has enabled the site to become what it is. He provided the vehicle for the rest of us to become a community. Let's just be grateful to him for that.

I stand by what I posted - and exactly what I posted.
I really do think he did a wonderful job with this site and I really do hope he got well paid.
However if he had had enough of swinging heaven there was no need to sell it to people who would turn it into a pay site, hence the slightly harsh past tense.
He has sold out - simple as that, good luck to him and I certainly wouldn't hate him for it but it does invalidate what Swinging Heaven stood for and what he created it to stand for.
Roger.

I'll simply say this... Mark is someone I had an awful lot of respect for. Please note the use of the past tense.

I am going to second that, harsh it may be but true.
Mark has done a great job with swinging heaven and it has been a wonderful site to be part of and a wonderful community - whether that continues is yet to be seen.
However, my last words to Mark are that I hope he was well paid.
I know being anything but touchy-feely about Mark on this thread is against the grain but to qoute various mods in the past.
"Goodbye and dont let the door hit you on the way out."

I have a Dragon tattoo - but unfortuneately the dragon in my avatar isn't a tattoo (yet! lol )
The Tattoo was done to match the name though rather than the other way round, if I get round to taking a picture I will post it up.
