It wasn't all bad - I remember the miner's strike fondly. My dad was a London copper - him and his colleagues were bussed up north and earnt huge amounts of overtime oppressing the miners. I got a new XR3 for my 21st birthday. Bless you, Arthur lol

The above post utterly disgusts me. To selfishly revel in the misfortune of others is beyond contempt.
Where have I heard that kind of drivel before?
You will be amongst friends on this site for sure, but I will not be singing your tune.
It is a fact that the police earned a lot of money through overtime, and obviously people benefited from that extra money...........where is the problem with that?
The miners lost almost everything and some gained a lot.........the way of the world I would say.
As has been said already..........." the Socialist Republic of Swinging Heaven ".
Oh pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeze.
I get so tired of hearing the same old tune over and over and over and over......:sleeping::sleeping:
Yes a lot of police benefitted financially through the extra overtime and there is nothing wrong with that in principal but for someone to actually "look back fondly" and gloat when others lost so much is what I find so disgusting.
Also some might say that if the police hadn't been so heavyhanded and devious in their policing of the strike, the civil war it became may not have lasted so long in which case they would not have earned so much in overtime dunno
This is an interesting piece written by a man who was a TUC trades unionist at the time of the strikes.

One mans meat is another mans poison dunno
A fair idiom I agree but I'd also choose another. People can sometimes become very 'wrapped up in oneself'

I agree and Labour started to, there is one opening in Doncaster and I'm sure there is more on the horizon. Let's hope Cameron sticks with the plan. We have 200 years worth of energy beneath our feet adn we need to start utilising our home resources instead of importing from Poland. With the energy crisis in our midst it would be foolish not to, especially as the likelihood is that the Poles will start putting up the cost of coal and then we will feel it.
It was nothing to do with cost it was about a political war and a governments desire to kill off one of the strongest sections of the working classes, the ones Thatcher termed "the enemy within" and in doing so also kill off the unions.
Using a cost argument is not viable as taking into account fuel, operating and maintenance costs, regulatory fees, pensions, taxes, insurance, property taxes, capital, admin and overheads and not forgetting decommissioning and waste costs in relation to nuclear, figures from for example 2005 show that the difference in costs for coal and nuclear power are negligable.
Nuclear 30.0 million
Coal 29.1 million

According to your Avatar S3xyl3xy , you joined on the 1st Jan 1970 which must make you the oldest active member!! wink

So it does lol, how odd! When I reactivated my account a short while ago I had to put in a support ticket as I could not read/see the forum and they had to do something to enable me to be able to so it must have something to do with that.
Swingler - someone who will deceive you into thinking that they will actually turn up for a meet

I know how you feel.
I am sure we have all heard about the "lets be patient" approach, but it doesnt seem to help much at the time.
I have been using this site for around four months and have just had my first reply that led to a meet with a lovely lady.
It will happen if you just keep on trying.
I hope you find what you are looking for - dont give up!

Looks like he found more than just an NSA shag on his first meet! :lol2:
The problem is that no matter what price per unit it is fixed at people will always find the money somehow. Kids will go without and bills won't get paid. It's a vicious circle.
Having read through a lot of what is posted in this Current Affairs forum it is no wonder that very few members post in here. Decent discussions are turned into childish playground brawls all in the name of oneupmanship. There is obvious baiting going on and from what I can see some members are being blatantly bullied. Maybe if the Moderators reigned in Moe, Curly and Harry it would encourage more people to start posting.
