Sounds like you all had a good time, it's even enough to get me to consider paintball - I've always wussed out in the past as I've seen far too many nasty bruises on other people, though considering some of the injuries I've picked up doing Live Action Roleplaying in the past I'm not sure why I'm worried.
Hi Sean,
I posted on here a few weeks ago asking if it'd be possible to come along, am I still too new or did my post manage to slip under your radar?
Dan
My real name (or at least the version of it that I use) gives 300+ hits, most of which aren't me - I share my name with an american journalist who writes about kit cars.
Putting in my regular online nick (not the one I use on this site) gives 136 hits that are almost all me or referring to me.

I think i would go back a couple of years to 10th September 2001 that gives me a day to warn about the terror attacks,i know bit heavy for this time in the morning but i think if it wasn't for this pivotal moment in time we would not be having all the shit that is happening now!!.......just my thoughs!!

Do you honestly think that if you did that anyone would believe you? Or that Bin Laden et al wouldn't just have come up with another plan after this one was foiled? (They have something of a record in this regard, have a look at Operation Bojinka ).
Personally I'd probably leave well alone as I wouldn't want to mess with causality or trigger a paradox.

Kat's Caveat - I have no idea if this is balanced or accurate, just one of many articles speculating on the origins of the virus

Kat

Having read through it it sounds like a reasonably balaced article to me and covers all of the more plausible and a couple of the less plausible theories on the development and spread of HIV.
Certainly when looking at transmission from monkeys to humans the bushmeat theory is a hell of a lot more realistic than any that involves people shagging monkeys (I'm not saying that it doesn't happen, but it's a lot more common for people to eat monkeys in that part of the world than to shag them).

Anybody who got that sort of alignment right wasn't stoned...
but anyway interesting philosophical question..my serious answer would be to go back in time to 20th April 1889 to a place called Braunau-Am-Inn Austria and strangle the fourth child of a certain Alois and Klara Hitler, thus preventing WWII, The Holocaust, The Cold War and the middle east state of Israel.

I'm sure I've heard of at least one novel that has a very similar premise - only problem (at least from that author's POV) is that the Nazis appear anyway (Hitler didn't create them, he merely took over a pre-existing group of violent idiots) and they end up being led by somebody who isn't a completely power-crazed nutter and are thus on the winning side in WWII.
I'm sure somebody could enlighten me as to the name of this book, it's temporarily escaped my recall.
I must admit, I have had one partner who smelt very bad down below, and it really put me off going down on her.
Personally I know I sweat buckets and whilst there's not a hell of a lot I can do about it whilst I'm playing with somebody I do make an effort to ensure I'm freshly showered and in (or recently out of) clean clothes when I get started. Apart from anything else, I don't feel particularly relaxed or sexy if I'm covered in a layer of stale sweat and honking to high heaven, so making sure I'm clean and minty fresh is as much about looking after my own interests as being considerate to whoever I'm playing with.

You do not have to "catch" genital warts. I have had warts all my life and i developed genital warts some years ago .... after a very, very long bout of celibacy  , so there's no chance that i caught them from a partner.
Matt

Good point Matt, it's worth remembering that the only difference between genital warts and any other kind of wart is basically their location - they're all caused by the same group of viruses. On that note, it's perfectly possible to infect yourself if you've got a wart elsewhere on your body, or to become infected through doing things other than full-on penetrative sex.
Recalling a thread on here a few days ago, this is one reason why somebody might insist on the use of gloves/dental dams when playing with strangers, though personally I'm of the opinion that taking a bit of care over who you play with is probably almost as effective, since the two diseases I can think of that are particularly transmissable like this are both fairly obvious when they're at their most infectious, at least on blokes (warts and herpes).

Very sad news, she was one of the very few mp`s i had any respect for.

My thoughts exactly, and I've met a few current and former MPs (not her unfortunately). I wouldn't trust most of them to organise a bunk up in a swinger's club, let alone run the country.
I used to get one of my female housemates at Uni to walk up and down my back in bare feet, not for sexual reasons though, she sorted my back and shoulder pain out a treat.
I should probably point out that she was 4'11" and about 8 stone wet through, I really wouldn't have wanted to try it with anyone bigger, or wearing high heels for that matter.
I somehow suspect this is going to be locked as it's been discussed quite a few times.
Generally the concensus on here is that it's not how big it is, it's what you do with it that counts.
Personally I've started mentally replacing lines in ads like 'minimum of 8 inches and thick' with 'I have a fanny like a bucket and want something that touches the sides'. evil
Personally I'm not too bothered by accent/dialect, most of those in the UK are quite pleasant and like Ms Amber I'm not going to offend anyone by mentioning the ones I don't particularly like.
I was brought up a Brummie, lived in Cardiff for three years, and moved to the North East a couple of years ago, so I've got pretty used to understanding strange accents. Six months working for National Rail Enquiries also helped with that one. I speak with a fairly slight Brummie accent (these days, it was a lot stronger before I'd moved away) and I have noticed that I still use quite a bit of Brummie/Black Country dialect, to the bemusement of the locals in these parts (I've lost count of the number of times I've had to explain what 'bostin' means - I just tell them it's the same as 'canny').

Thanks for that. I think you're telling me I need a beefier in vehicle charger or a beefier inverter?

I'd better leave that one to the people who really know what they're doing for a recommendation, I used to fix laptops regularly, but am not an expert on providing them with adequate power, I'd to pick the brains of the electronic engineer who sat next to me when it came to that sort of thing.
Quote by EagerSlut
What I don't understand is that the generic mains charger that came with the laptop says '65W' and the vehicle charger I bought online says 'Max 90W'

That's due to the kit not being 100% efficient - the vehicle charger is supplying 65W to the laptop(when working properly), but requires up to 90W coming in in order to output that 65W, as about 30% of the energy coming into it is lost, almost all as heat.

I've no idea what the power requirements of this laptop are. Where the fuck do I find the spec for it? Would it be on one of the HP discs that came with it?

Easiest place to look is on the 'web, where you can find things like the service guide (big pdf document). A brief skim through would indicate that your laptop requires a current of 3.5 amps and it's PSU provides it with , giving a power consumption of just under 65 watts ( if you want to be pedantic).
Bear in mind that neither the PSU, inverter, or in-car charger arre 100% efficient (anything but), so you'll need more than these figures suggest to allow for that inefficiency.
Well I think I might have found your problem smile, but I don't have an easy solution sad.
this page on HP's site would suggest that it's probably due to the laptop wanting more power than the 12V socket in your truck can provide.
That's a difficult one to diagnose, especially from long distance.
approaching things logically, if the same problem is occuring with both the in-car charger and the PSU/inverter combination then I think you can rule out either of those being the problem. It could be the truck's dropper (I'm no expert on vehicle electrical systems, unfortunately), but since your old laptop worked fine it's unlikely (though it could just be that the new laptop is a bit more particular about the quality of it's power supply). I take it it charges up fine using it's PSU plugged into 220V AC (a normal wall socket)?
That leaves the new laptop, and in particular the power management programs within the operating system (what is it incidentally, Windoze, Mac, or a proper OS like Linux?) Actually isolating a problem in here without access to your set up is nigh on impossible, though if you're using Windows you could fiddle around with the power management utility in the control panel and see if anything in there makes a difference.
Anyway, good luck, it sounds like you might need a bit.

I've built two computers and they actually worked first time when I switched them on lol and still working now 1 year later ... damn site cheaper than buying a ready built one from the shops too but a lot more stressful evil

I'd kind of discounted computers as I've built/repaired/taken apart and put back together for the hell of it more of them than I care to remember. It is, or was what I do for a living. Fair play to you for getting them to work first time though, that feat often eludes me.
As an aside, I've not found it to be a particularly cheap option unless you're after something reasonably high-end. I've built all the PCs I've ever had (well all of my personal workstations, there's a pile of half a dozen or so in the corner that I picked up cheap on eBay), but only because I wanted to specify exactly which components were in them

A 1/24th scale model of a De Havilland Mosquito Mk 12( I think ) - when I was recovering from a dislocated patella, age 13! I even got the undercarriage to hold it up!!! ( Bit of a total numpty when it comes to anything practical )

That must have been a pretty impressive model (a quick search on Wikipedia followed by some maths says it'd have had a wingspan of about 27 inches). I'm about 20% of the way through converting an Airfix 1/72 Catalina into a model of a post-war water bomber, the first time I've picked up a scalpel and milliput in about 15 years.*
Actually I've got one you might appreciate Smokerjim - when I was a student I built a 'water pipe' out of one of these:
*Yes, I do need to get laid more often.

Me and a mate built a two seater plane a few years ago....
Having said that, there's a bloke in Canada who's website I've seen who wants to build a single seat STOL aircraft (I forget which one) and a 110 foot long powerboat to use as an aircraft carrier. I think he's a bit mad, but I'd love to see them if they ever get built.

having worked on the real things that guy is going to need all the help he can get.... they are a pain in the butt
To be fair he's a former carrier pilot (HMCS Bonaventure IIRC), so he's got a fair idea of the difficulties involved. If it comes off it should look pretty cool when he lands the plane - the boat will go significantly faster than the stall speed of the plane, so he should be able to do near-vertical landings with a bit of practice.
still, rather him than me.
Quote by Bikerguy82
I doubt it...There's a good deal of work in a boat and remember a boat can sink just as easily as a plane can crash. cool
Lots of luck with your project.....Measure twice, measure again. Have a think about it, measure twice again and then cut once :!:

Well yes, the difference is that I have a good chance of surviving even the catastrophic failure of part of my boat, whereas a failure in an aircraft generally has more serious consequences.
Thanks, as long as I get something that sails straight and keeps the water on the outside I'll be a happy man.

i thik the word vauxhall nova translated into spanish something like
pile of shit hence over there they were called opel corsa
i drive one but i wouldnt call it a pile of shit more like
a single turd

IIRC, the problem with the Nova was that it's name could be roughly translated as "won't go".
I'm not sure if that was better or worse than Triumph's efforts to market the Acclaim in post-war West Germany (for non-German speakers the literal translation of Triumph Acclaim is/could be (my German's not good enough to say whether it's the best translation) 'Seig Heil').

No I just wanted to uncover the concrete remains of the Anderson Shelter hidden under the grass! I thought it would make a good talking point at parties lol

Fair enough, I was trying to work out what all the corrugations were, now it all become clear.
Pololady - is that hole going to be a pond/sandpit/very small outdoor pool, or are fallout shelters coming back into fashion 'round your way?

Yes a real one lol And it does really fly. Took us about three years to do and NO I'll never do it again mad

Bloody hell, that's bigger than some of the dinghies I've been looking at plans for.

oh, and i once made a medievil torture rack...special order when i was once a welder.

That sounds interesting (from a technical POV), was it for a museum/tourist attraction or something more kinky? I've often wondered if there was much of a market for that kind of thing.

I bet you end up with a raft!
I've never built anything ever in my life but my parents will testify ... with vehemence ... that I, Wishmaster, did wilfully and with malicious aforethought, completely dismantle our new telly when I was 9. It was my dad's fault for trying to replace the valve and letting me watch and NOT putting his tools away after him - I thought I was helping him, no need for the thick ear he gave me later, I was expecting sweets!

Bet you I don't.
Having said that, I'm planning to build a much smaller boat first to practice my skills.
I also have a record of dismantling stuff as a child - in my case it was my great aunt's new gas fire when I was about 18 months old, and it ended up in a state not even the bloke from British Gas could fix. redface
I've spent most of the afternoon contemplating building enough radiator covers to equip a reasonably large house, and a few breaks looking up info for my preferred dream project - turning 20-something sheets of plywood, a stack of 2x4s, and a decent sized pile of other bits and pieces into a 20-foot yacht complete with two masts, a cabin, and pilot house .
This got me wondering how many of you guys/girls have built something you consider impressive, whether due to it's size, complexity, or other reason?
N.B. To avoid the obvious comments from all the mums and dads on here I'm not prepared to consider the production of new humans unless you can put them together from component parts, Dr. Frankenstein style.
