When I was young we didn't grow pumpkins: we always used a Swede (not the Ulrika/Abba variety but what my Scots friends call 'Neeps'). Did anyone else do that? It always seemed a much better alternative to actually eating them -although I now love them.

Funnily enough, when I bought my pumpkin, the checkout lady at Tesco said "I must be old, because I remember using a Swede" And I looked a little shocked, as I could think of far better uses for a Scandinavian!

Right, the little begger is just winding me up now - I get out there and, before I get a chance to do anything, he suddenly starts burning like the bestest pumpkin lantern ever seen .... Aaaaaaaaaaaargh mad :x :x
And now I'm soaked all the way through so, no Eager, I can't join you on the couch cos I've gotta go and take all my clothes off! :rascal: :moon:
Terminally bored this evening, and flicking through the channels, happened upon the X-Factor ( redface surprisedops: )
And there is a contestant on there who is the spitting image of Lovecommando (well his chin anyway) ........... and he's not around this evening it would seem .......... so I was wondering ..................................
blink :eeek:

Could be because you have a tight fitting lid and if you also havent carved much out of the pumpkin, there isnt enough oxygen in the pumpkin for it to burn efficiently, hence it eventually goes out. My hubby does our, and his are the bollox as he is very arty, will try and find a pic of one somewhere.
I sounded rather intelligent before didnt i? Sorry, it wont happen again!
PS. isnt Halloween next weekend? rolleyes

Mmmmm the lid is VERY tight and it's only a little pumpkin ......... maybe I'll take the lid off a bit. Off I go again then bolt
P.S. Yes yes, I know ........... but when you're four years old (not me!!) Halloween lasts for at least a month!

It needs more ventilation hunni!!

(Ex-firefighter)

Oooooooohhh have you still got the uniform and the big hose??
But now I'm confused, do I move into the wind or out of it???? :confused2:
And I'm getting flippin soaked going in an outside to check on the damned thing rolleyes ]
Quote by nealfiona
We use the little tea lighters they seem to be ok and they last for hours. Also try and put them in a less windy place.
F

OK, off I go out in the wind and rain with me tealight then ..................... I may be some time!! bolt
SUCK
Oh sorry, not talking about preferences.................
FELT
Hey this is one perfectly formed pumpkin lantern with a tight fitting lid - no flippin rain is getting in I ASSURE you!!! :smug:
And I just checked it (for the 100th time) and it is just glowing really really really feebly - what the heck is that gonna frighten away????
Having spent an entertaining rolleyes afternoon preparing a beautiful (though I say so myself) pumpkin lantern with my four year old, complete with sadistic grin, we proudly took it outside in the pouring rain and lit it. How wonderful did it look - shining brightly in the pitch black. :bounce: :bounce:
Ten minutes later ......................... out goes the candle evil Ok, so re-lit it and ............. yep, out it went again.
Does anyone know how you keep the fecking things alight????
:confused2:
