I have to admit that I have been witness to one or two of these rather elaborate ceremonial spectacles over the last few years and I can see why some people would be freaked out by them.
Recently went to one in a pretty old gothicy type building. Quite spectacular place to be in daytime to be honest but a bit creepy at night.
Not really being accustomed to the whole “goings on” I just stayed in the side lines and watched from afar.
Okay so there was candles and chanting, they’d an altar set up and the bloke who seemed to know the most about what was going on was rather, err, elaborate and ornate in his dress sense  but hey, each to their own and I’m sure that no one on the day was put off by his flowing robes.
The majority of those there had obviously been a few times before and seemed to know where to join in when they should.
In fact that was the freaky bit for me.
The chanting almost seemed to be done by rote and I wasn’t convinced that those repeating it were actually taking a great deal of notice as to what they were saying. Almost saying it just because those around them expected them to say confused .
However, I suppose that all those people chanting and asking for the same thing at the same time must do some good, well can it do any harm??
They burnt some stuff in a little gold dish which was a bit too “herbal” smelling for me rolleyes ……
Next thing I knew was they asked two of the people in the front to step forward, which they did, COMPLETE WITH A CHILD dressed in fancy white robes as well  !!!
Then quick as a flash they’re handing the poor mite over to the bloke in the fancy robes and he’s dipping the kiddies head in water!!
Cue much distress from the kiddie and much more rote chanting from the others present who seemed to take great delight in the whole ceremony.
Bloody strange if you ask me but christenings can be like that!!!!!
Now, before anyone gets their knickers in a twist, I’m not having a pop at anyones religion. I have my own views on it all.
Makes you wonder though?
I dont know......9 hours at work, two in the gym then I have to come home and make my own dinner!!!
At this rate she'll be demanding I shag her later cool
Right Countess, where do you want me??
wink
And I'm still in my gym gear so shorts will have to do for now....

Placebo's version of Kate Bush Running up that hill is out of this world

Very strange. Countess and I were only talking about this yesterday. confused
Just outside the 80's, but Placebos version of Dapeche Modes I Feel You is great as well.
I'm also a Marilyn Manson fan and his cover of Depeche Modes Own Personal Jesus rocks as does his version of Tainted Love by Soft Cell (which is also a cover. The original was by Gloria Jones, Marc Bolans Mrs.). Not too sure about his cover of Sweet Dreams by Eurythmics though.
Spooky eh
I like mansons versions as well. There is a special edition Placebo cd with cover versions on. I saw them perform Running up that hill live this year and they were incredible.
I'll swap you it for your wife :rascal:
Totally blowing any street cred I may have with todays yoof......
I also like Will Youngs cover of Hey Ya on the live lounge cd
I dont know where to start with 80's bands there were so many good ones. Some that suck around some that didn't but if we are talking cover versions then for me

There seems to be an us and them theme developing in several of the threads similar to this one, swingers only swing with swingers and all vanillas are narrow minded? dunno I've seen that said a few times.
I'm not keen on defining to the nth degree, "swinging" isn't copyrighted, I just see what I do as recreational sex, normally outside of the conventional view of sex only within a marriage.
I prefer to go with the flow and enjoy what I like when I like it.

Oooohhh, controversial
Swinging is many different things to many different people. Not everyone will fit into “your” label of it (not aimed at any one person here).
It is what it is to rest don’t really matter
The need to fit into a particular “label” seems to fuck people up tbh…. Can someone give me a definitive reason as to their importance or necessity to a successful experience??
I was reading this thread more and more and sinking into despair................it's all made to sound so difficult confused
But then this.............
Quote by swing_fun_cpl
I think that sometimes people get caught up in the big flashing lights of FFM,MMF ect headings and do forget what is actually important, and that is people getting together to have sexy fun and pleasure each other. Theres alot involved in a happy full bodied swinging experience and the more people involved the more important it is that everyone is reading from the same page. Everyone male, female, couples and singles have the potential to feel used or devalued from less than ideal situations. Only with experience can you get a better handle on who is right for you to meet and who maybe isnt.

Fantastic post Calista
A note for people and not particularly newbies....
Munches are not a mandatory part of swinging....
you dont have to attend one to swing as Scandal so frequently (and quite rightly) will point out
It's been interesting to note that some of the most prevelant posters decrying "typical munch behaviour" are those who rarely frequent the events and if they do so they only do to spend the time slagging people off confused
I dont agree with what happened at NW. But it's an adult site, an adult night out, let us behave like adults ffs!!
And I take offence at people saying two girls snogging is an overtly sexual act.
Great offence.

...stuff...

....more stuff in reply.....

being proved right is never a bad thing wink
Quote by PoloLady
There actually is no suggestion to analyse and define anything - just to discuss and debate changes in expressed expectations.

Two replys in and we have our first "definition" i.e.
Swinging isn't dating and does involve sex

Quote by PoloLady
You say "If it feels good and works for you then do it." - but you have seen where it goes when someone expects more than recreational sex and I have certainly seen the aftermath that is the result of people pretending it feels good.

I have. But define recreational sex? For some it's a quick shag found perusing the ad section for others it's intimacy with people they have gotten to know as friends. Where do you draw the line of recreational sex?
Marriage proposals are slightly different confused
Quote by PoloLady
Perhaps a sterner word of caution or an open debate about mismatched expectations would have prevented a few "I can't believe I was so stupid" or "he's a bastard" posts (which seemed to pop up elsewhere more frequently.

Now you really dont believe that do you?? All the step-by-step beginners guide to swinging for dummies type debates / discussion in the world wont stop people getting themselves into situations that could have been avoided.
Where's the individuality and maturity in being able to swing without a checklist?
Quote by PoloLady
What is wrong with openly talking about recreational sex and expectations? Why does that mean it is an analysis? It is called discussion.

Wooosh........there goes the sarcasm bit as well wink
Quote by PoloLady
Surely a frank and open discussion can only provide yet another resource for those who are considering whether it is for them or not?

Indeed, and I reckon my views and contribution are as valid.
Quote by PoloLady
PS – as for defining sex … I’ll show you my definition later

If you're a good girl

Swinging isn't dating and does involve sex.

*This is in no way a dig*
It is many things to many people and can you define sex or just give your own definition of it???
It's not really down to you, me or any number of posters on here who seem to go with the "my way (whatever that way is) is the right way"
Each to their own and all that.
