I was trying to appeal to a more worldly wise and experienced audience - spirits were always sold in fractions of a gill...
I believe they still are. I'm sure it's still a legal measure. It's great when you find a pub that serves 1/3 of a gill instead of 1/4.

I'll have a Mojito please Will - and would my thigh length boots be OK for the heels?
Oooh, Mojito, that would be lovely. Oh, and your thigh length boots will do fine for the uniform - and pretty much anything else!!
So then, is that ALL you're wearing? :rascal: :rascal:
Will innocent
And a smile, of course! :twisted:rotflmao :rotflmao: A suitably lascivious one, I hope!

We used to play that game in a hotel bar I frequented in London.
The old German flag was a classic; red wine, advocaat and guinness.
I am retired from cocktail drinking now, but was notorious for the Purple People Eater; tall glass (pint pot will do), a gill of cider, a gill of Special Brew or LCL Special, third of a gill of pernod, third of a gill of vodka and a dash of blackcurrant cordial.
It doesn't make you look cool, but it will make all the opposite sex look more attractive (and some of your own sex, and sundry other species) and it comes with all the advantages of amnesia in a glass.
That sounds like a good game. Devise cocktails in various national colours.
Right then - suggestions. Some of the African countries could be a nightmare. Have you SEEN their flags? Very striking, but they do have a tendency to look like an explosion in a paint factory!

Oooo - I like this one lol
giveaways include:
1) Nice soft furnishings - e.g. foutons & scatter cushions (especially the fluffly ones that look like dead cats/sheep)
Nope, Sappho does all the soft furnishings. I'm, rubbish at it.
Quote by Bloke 2005
2) An aftershave for every day of the month
Nope again - just one bottle of aftershave and that only gets used rarely. Never go anywhere without deodorant and body spray, but not often aftershave.
Quote by Bloke 2005
3) The entire Clinique range in their bathrooms (although the lines are becoming blurred here) confused
Ermmmm, not actually sure what you're talking about here.
Quote by Bloke 2005
4) They can cook - especially at short notice and can usually rustle up a 4 course meal from 2 Shredded Wheat and an old lettuce :rascal:
I cook rather well - though Sappho is better at 'rustling things up'. I tend to do the 'set pieces'
Quote by Bloke 2005
5) Hair-doos - short cropped, bleached or way too much gel/wax
Well, I'm quite bald so I don't get a lot of choice in hairstyles!
Quote by Bloke 2005
6) The odd copy of 'Hello' or 'OK!' in the living room
Never, never, never! Can't abide 'celebrity gossip' magazines
Quote by Bloke 2005
7) Barbara Streisand records - just one and they could be dodgy, there's no excuse
I don't actually own any Barbra Streisand records - but I do rather like her. I even quite fancy her. May have scored an own goal by showing that I know it's spelt "Barbra". redface
Quote by Bloke 2005
8) Kitchen gadgets that really are useful
Yeah, OK. You've got me there!
Quote by Bloke 2005
9) Movie choices - Beaches, Fried Green Tomotoes.... STEPS in concert, Kylie's Showgirl Tour
Genuinely not heard of Beaches, heard of but not seen Fried Green Tomatoes, wouldn't dream of watching Steps (except on mute and to perv at the girls). As for Kylie, well, of course I would watch it. I have a serious crush on the woman (now THAT's a bum! :twistedsmile
Earlier today I jokingly said to Sappho "I'll let you explain to the children about cross dressing." Then she pointed out "Which one of us has cross-dressed; in public; AND appeared on stage like that - MORE THAN ONCE?"
surprisedops:  Collapse of stout party!

Well, to mark VE day I'll have a 'Victory in Europe' please Will - complete with miniature bunting and lots and lots of light and freedom!
Oh, I like that idea! I wonder if it's possible to devise a cocktail in three layers of red white and blue. Something like grenadine, blue curacao and cream. Doesn't sound terribly appetising though.
Now then, Foxy and NWC. No problem with the drinks, but's what with the bacon butty and curly fries? This is a cocktail bar, not a chuffing cafe! :jagsatwork: We can provide 'nibbles', there'll be plenty of nuts (oi, steady!!) and I might be able to run to some Blinys with caviar - but bacon butties are strictly for Sunday mornings only.
Will - wanders away muttering to himself.
Reminded by BIoke's cocktail thread - what are we having tonight?
The usual wines, beers and spirits are in. No doubt we shall have some outlandish cocktail requests so I have my cocktail book here and please feel free to request your own recipes.
Volunteers for waiting staff are always welcome. The uniform is as follows:
Ladies - short black, low cut dress, white frilly pinnie (i.e. French maid stylee) with fshnet stockings and heels.
Chaps - just a bartender's apron.
Now then - who's first?
Will
Oooh, good thread!
Starting off simple, I do love my gin & tonic (have one next to me now)
When I'm feeling stressed, my favourite cocktail is a Corpse Reviver:
1 measure of Italian (i.e. sweet/red) vermouth
1 measure Calvados
2 measures brandy
After one you start to feel better. After two you feel great. Unfortunately, unless you switch to something else after that it all starts to go a bit pear-shaped! drinkies
Although I've heard a lot about them, I've never actually had a Caipirinha. BIoke, perhaps I could pop round and you and Nola can make some for me. Hang on, do you have any idea what might happen after a few Caipirinhas? :eeek:
Which reminds me, it must be time to open up the bar...........
Will - see you over there.
Right then, last orders! I have to be up at 5:45, so any more for any more before the shutters come down?
Will clears away the glasses and other debris and pulls the shutters down quietly so as not to wake Kaz who has a strangely serene and slightly pervy smile on her lips
Vodka babe - you're coming with me! :rascal:

One large glass of red coming up. I have a nice 9-year old Rioja here if you care to join me. If that's not your thing, then I'm sure that we can find something to suit.
Make yourself comfortable

Whatever tonic you have for the work-in-the-morning blues, I'll have a bathful please Will ...
Speaking of baths, how about a bathtub for two, you and me, lots of bubbles and candles, a bottle of wine/champagne and two glasses?
Interested?

I could make you a smoothie and serve it naked? Would that have done?! lol
That seems a pretty good place to start! :rascal:
Will
Unfortunately, I'm working on the south coast tomorrow - which isn't exactly round the corner from you!
Shame - I take it there would have been some 'payment in kind'? :rascal: :rascal:

I've just had a smoothie so I don't really need a drink, just thought I'd pop by and say hello Will! kiss
Can you paint?
Hi there DG, always nice to say hello to you
I can paint walls - I don't do pictures I'm afraid lol

Sorry to have been absent from my post.
Went to our eldest's boyfriend's 18th birthday party yesterday afternoon - the first time we'd met his parents properly. They were generous hosts (a little TOO generous) and as Sappho Jr had tipped them off that I have a penchant for red wine they were filling my glass every four or five minutes. As a result, I rather over-indulged and was in bed by 08:30 redface
To make amends, I have been on cooking, gardening AND childcare duty today. But the little ones are in bed now and Sappho and Sappho Jr are out for the evening.
Soooo, what can I get you all?
Will
...and a very happy birthday from me too - and what a fantastic way to celebrate it!
I hope the day was as idyllic as it sounds.
Will kiss
Hi Funlovers, Vodka and whatever-you-want coming right up.
Sausage and egg sandwich sounds delightfully decadent. You could be just my sort of people!

Will,you opened without me!
But i will forgive you if you turn the hot tub on.
Its been a stressful day, what do you have that's smooth, long and guaranteed to relax a lady?

I was SOOOO hoping you would pop in passionkiss sillyassionkiss:
The hot tub on is on and ready :rascal: and I have JUST the smooth, long thing to guarantee your complete satisfaction. However, would you like a drink first?
Will
Coming right up - and I'll join you with a glass of Chianti (if truth be known, it's not my first! redface).
Vampanya, this is a virtual bar and I do this from time to time. Been doing it for SIX YEARS now  . Nice avatar, by the way. Now what can I get you :rascal:
Will
OK, OK, so I know it's late and I don't come in here often enough but, as some of you know, I have a fairly hectic life outside of SH. However, I thought that, as it's a holiday weekend, we ought to have something of a party. Sooooo,
There a couple of barrels of real ale (Wadworth's 6X and Theakston's Old Peculiar to be going on with), plus some specialist bottled beers and, in the fidge, a choice of Italian and Mexican beers.
Speaking of the fridge, there is also some bubbly (both pink and white), New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc, Sancerre, Chablis (the only Chardonnay worth drinking imho) and some Rose from the south of France.
For red wine lovers we have Argentinian Malbec, Australian Shiraz, Chateauneuf-du-Pape and Chilean Merlot.
There is also chilled vodka and gin - with equally chilled tonic, room temperature Glenmorangie, Laphroiag and Bush Mills.
There is also some Pimms and lemonade - just in case the weather should pick up a little.
Tomorrow morning there will be bacon and/or sausage sandwiches/baps and tea and coffee - though I may need a band of helpers to serve them.
As always, fondling of the staff is not only allowed but positively encouraged.
Now then, who's first?
Will
I've recorded it to watch later. I decided that although one of the twins (5 next month) would love it, the other one would be too scared - and I thought that the 3-year-old Will Jr was a little youg.
Can't wait to see the recording later.
Will
The evening shift has officially started. Service may be a bit slow for the next hour or so as I am on cooking duty tonight, and Sappho was out all day today, so kid duty kept me occupied for most of the day. Soooo, help yourself to whatever you want. I'll be in to clear away th empties and join in the fun from around 9:30.
Will
*hangs up bartender's apron on the way out*
Sorry if the service has been a bit slow tonight.
Tune, I am sure that Sappho would be only too happy to oblige.
PK - Pink fizz with a reapberry - I like your style
mrnmrsermmm, sorry - too many consonants for me to handle  brandy sours on their way....
Will
PS Oi, Nola and Bloke - where are we with the Caiprinhas? * Will drums fingers impatiently - but ever so politely *
One naughty Easter Egg thingy coming right up NWC.....
Quote by Mancunian
Not that I'd have anything against Will
  Too flipping right you wouldn't!! lol
I think I'll leave you to the waitresses.
Now then Bloke and Nola, that sounds like fun but things might get a little out of hand after a few caiprinhas. :rascal:
Will - this could be a good evening!
Oh yes ladies, room service is definitely included - especialy as business is a little quiet at the moment.
We probably ought to come back into the bar later, but that gives us a few hours. However will we pass the time?
Will
Splendid, sorry that you're poorly too! :therethere:
Hope you feel better soon.
Vodka babe, hope the coffee and sausage bap are to your liking. I tell you, making sausage and bacon baps as a naked chef can be a dangerous undertaking. The grill can spit in some VERY uncomfmortable places!
WIll - time to put the kettle on again
Quote by Kaznkev
ohh italian red, that will console me for the fact you are still wearing clothes under your apron
Kaz!!!! I can refuse you nothing. A LARGE glass of red coming up..................and the clothes coming off!

A cocktail please - the Easter Egg.
A measure of Advocaat.
A measure of Baileys.
Half a can of Cream Soda.
Plenty of ice (after all it's bound to snow).
Stir with a chocolate spoon and add a Cadbury's Flake as a swizzle stick.
Many thanks.
Oh, and don't bother with the barman's apron. A free flow of air is always much more healthy. biggrin:D:D:D:D:D:D
I'm loving the fact that I'm actually learning some new cocktails. One Easter Egg comign up......
LP - sorry to hear you're poorly! I mix a mean hot toddy - Whisky, hot water, a squeeze of lemon and a generous dollop of honey. Makes you feel better and helps you sleep. Works for me every time
Will
Evening All! wave
Time to open up for the four-day weekend :bounce:
We have all the usuals in stock I think. However, as it's a holiday weekend, I've also got some pink fizz in the fridge and a rather large quantity of Italian red.
Will - who's first?
PS If there is a real party atmosphere then I might be tempted to discard my clothes and just wear the bartender's apron - unless someone wants to take that off as well! innocent
