Does anyone else suffer with this?
Im always seeming to bumping into things, knock stuff over, dropping things, walking into doors... confused confused confused
This isnt a recent thing that Ive developed, been like this all my life. My mum used to say I could fall over a matchstick when was a kid as I was always having wee accidents.
I do put it down to nervousness at times, other times... dunno

Yes, yes and yes!!!!... I am the biggest clutz in the world. I just have to look at something and it drops lol it's even worse round about PMT time. I put milk in the oven and throw stuff out in the bin when I meant to put in dishwasher etc., when I'm hormonal I can sound like I'm drunk, all my words come out wrong and I talk gibberish (even more so than usual! :eeek: )

I'm ridiculously clumsy! Never mind a matchstick , i can trip over piles of air and go head over heels!
I don't know how I manage to be a gymnast, we're supposed to be graceful!

This clumlyness is now thought to be a specific learning need called dsypraxia - more about it
Co-ordination problems are highly indicative of this condition.

cool

I'm definatley not dyspraxic, I just think I disappear of in my own wee dream world most of the time and end up not paying attention to what i'm doing/where I'm going etc!
My legs are covered in primary school playground bruises! lol

I think I have your disease! lol
Only it's not just my legs!!! :giggle:
I can be incredibly clumsy.
I can also be incredibly stupid- I've just spent half a day laying underlay. Upside down. banghead
Fortunately, I'm also pretty good humoured! lol

Thank you for the link smile ... was quite interesting. I read the adult part and found I fitted into some of the catorgories (to my surprise). Fits in with my forgetfullness and lack of memory for certain things too.. always thought i was just scatterbrained confused

that's exactly the same as I am......I seem to always be going into planetkate daydream mode and then find myself walking into things and tripping over nothing at all and I'm continually covered in bruises lol
I'm always falling over too, become a family joke, just thought I was naturally clumsy.
Then a few years ago I went to a chiropractor for a back problem. She asked me if I fall over a lot and I said yes, can you tell from all the bruises?
No, she said, you have loose ligaments
Yippee! It's a medical thing, not just clumsiness...
I do spend a lot of time looking around, daydreaming and not at the ground though and that doesn't help
I think this thread and in particular Jag's post has the potential to maybe clarify a situation in our family. Not sure whether to be happy or sad!
Thanks Jags kiss

We have the same problem with our eldest ...
If he walked along a snooker table he would fall over but we know we have other problems as well with him so maybe they are linked dunno

I've explored other avenues and never been convinced enough to go any further until today confused
The trouble with my wife Doctor is, if she read a book on house renovations, she would convince herself someone she knew had dry rot. rolleyes

I've been meaning to talk to you about those funny little crumbly bits you have..... :undecided:
my son has dyspraxia and cross laterality put together makes a very clumsy child and he has just been diagnosed with ADHD this situation is not to be laughed at and very serious to a child. not a illness easibly cured

Hiya...
I used to work with young people who had ADHD and it was extremely hard work.. I only worked with these young people for 2 or 3 hours at a time, occasionally all weekend.
Im not sure how I would cope if one of my own children had it. Im sure I would be tearing my hair out at times.....
Its quite different from being able to walk away at the end of a day and going home, to living with a young person 24/7 with ADHD.
You have my utmost respect..

Hi Dekntan
Was'nt sure how to take your post. Did you think we were making light of the situation?

We are currently trying to get our son officially diagnosed as suffering from aspergers syndrome which is similar to autism(sp) or at least on the autistic spectrum..

Hope it does help - and be happy cos if there is a problem at least you are now aware of it. I've seen too many children brought down and laughed at and ridiculed because they are clumsy when in fact there are so many things able to be done to help them.
Awareness is more than half the battle.

Best to come from a position of knowledge. Ignorance can harm and kill. It's the judicious application of said knowledge which makes life bearable. If your 'wife' could recognise dry rot because of a book she read then it's been worth the reading.

Thanks Jags. I've been aware of a problem for a long long time even if it's just intuitive, but putting any sort of name to it has been and is not easy and obviously until we speak to someone we're still not sure we have found it. This has just given me a place to start maybe. kiss
Dyspraxia is common with children that are on the Autistic spectrum and ADHD.... It's not until other problems arise that it is normally recognised...
Fire hun if you need someone to talk to, you can always PM me... We spent 8 years convinced we were a little loon because we always knew there was something wrong but couldn't explain what it was... kiss

School should be able to help with this, if applicable of course.
:P
Thanks Shireen kiss I just want to do the right thing and feel guilty that I hav'nt been more serious about it until now. Hoping the problem would go away and I would be just another Mother having a flap about nothing.

Actually I feel let down abit by her school at the moment as I have had many comments from them both by phone and at the reception about her lack of organisation, her forgetfulness and general head in the clouds attitude. They are a school for dyslexic excellence and as I understand it the two conditions on many occassions go hand in hand. They obviously think she is just a scatterbrained thicko and now I'm beginning to get angry as I write mad sorry I'll go now redface
Fire make an appointment with your Doctor and say that you want to be referred to Family and Child Services... Then talk to them about your concerns... They will appoint a psychologist to assess her and then take it from there...
I can spot similarities with our son as he is forgetful etc... At the end of the day if they say she is okay it will have done no harm smile
Thanks Shireen and Jags and of course Anais for starting this thread. I will do something about this on Monday. I am determined now and will see it through.
