(i'm an ODP) rolleyes

What's an ODP ?
Dammie mate, ODP is a managerial (non-medical) abbreviation thought up to justify thier annual salary.
In todays terms ODP replaced the abbreviation OTT (operating theatre technician). Same job different name.

because as a health care proffesional we are at high risk of developing a latex allergy and more likley to have it diagnosed i should have really explained it better to start with i had no idea untill just latley what the problems was when i was having difficulty in breathing but now i know i was just intrested in seeing if anyone has heard or try latex free condoms.

just a quick question, does being a healthcare professional have any bearing on the allegy?

It doesn't make us more susceptible but as we use gloves on a daily basis, we're more likely to be able to identify this allergy. Latex free gloves have been available throughout the NHS for some time. It can cause problems when treating patients who have this allergy too, especially if we're not told they have it.
It does actually make us more susceptible, as repeated exposure to latex can lead to an allergy developing (anti-latex IgE antibodies being produced). Many Trust policies acitvely discourage the wearing of latex gloves accept where neccessary. Other trusts are moving away from using Latex gloves and are only ordering nitrile or other sythetic versions.......which is a bugger for me because the synthetic ones have less strech in them and the small ones are too small and the medium ones are too big!
The reason it could have a bearing on transmission of STD's would be due to the pore size of the material. If you look at a box of gloves they have a chart on the side, listing the types of gloves sold by the manufacturer and the suitable uses of each type of gloves..........not all golves can be used with all chemicals and still give protection, although all safe gaurd against viruses and bacteria (at least I bl**dy well hope they do! ) If the synthetic condoms are very thin, then it is likely that they have a larger pore size than the latex equivelant and therfore do not provide as much protection against STD's.
