I do like the old 50's and 60's British bikes....
Look and sound lovely....
My late father had a BSA 650 super rocket and a teacher of mine at senior school had a 750 Bonny....

I`ve been sorting out a load of family stuff lately and have just found a whole bunch of photos from the forties and fifties of my dad and his mates.
I have seen them before, but that was years ago !!
The story goes, that he had to decide between my mum and a new bike....she wasn`t prepared to ride pillion so it was bigger bike or sidecar !!
He plumped for sidecar !! .. Now, ain`t that sweet !! lol
Anyway, to the point rolleyes
I think that there was something romantic about a motorcycle back then ....a great throbbing machine that was tempremental and dripped oil all over the place.
I honestly think it`s missing from todays shiny plastic buzzy things !!
Anyway ... I could start rambling if I`m not careful so I`ll just leave this with you and see if there are any comments ..
OH yeah ....and this

That sounds like someone I know
I love old bikes so much character, much better than the plastic crotch rockets we have now confused

In the photos of my dad there are three others with Vincent 1000`s and my dad with an ariel 600 ...

Was that what was known as the square 4 ?
Or am I getting confused

I call my mate a Plastic Power Ranger coz of the sports jobby he rides :giggle:

In the 70's I had a 650 Bonny. A dream to ride. You cant beat that throaty throb of a british bike. My ex wife and I went up to the Hebrides on it for a holiday . Would you believe it got us back in a single day! Isle of Skye to London. My balls and willy were numb as death! We rode for 2hrs then stopped for 10 mins all the way back down. That was the hardest riding I've ever done. She was a gorgeous machine. I often think of her even now and hope someone has still got her on the road.

A bit older than we were originally talking about but still beautiful...
We had a lovely Triumph 350- though I did nearly kill meself on the thing as it's knobs & levers were on the "wrong" side! confused
When Mr W gets back I'll post a looooong list of all the machines he's owned over the years- he's been riding since he was 16.
I did have a very soft spot for our 400/4. biggrin

So... do all you biker boys (and girls!) wear leathers then? :rascal:
Sorry... I know absolutely nothing about bikes but do have a penchant for a man in leather

I've been known to wear 'em.....and Mr W still has a full set. wink
Ooooooooooooo, I loved riding pillion - had some great memories of riding through country lanes on my partners bikes - BSA, Norton, Triumph, CZ (can't remember the rest) those where the days!! My cat loved it - used to carry a basket over my arm with my cat snuggled up or head peeping out though the gap in it biggrin
I also remember the motorbike accidents I was in, the burns on my legs, getting wet and my hair always looking awful, getting a fly in my eye, bike parts all over the dining room, good friends that died etcconfused :? :?

edited just to drag it on through the thread....cos its a work of ard.
Bikes are for riding.
Whether it be one of these beautiful feats of engineering that will potter around gently these days.....or a so-called plastic power ranger type bike.
At the end of the day, you ride what you do, based on your needs/wants as a rider.
I want to beat the arse off any bloke who thinks cos I'm on a jap 400 import that I'm beneath his top of the range 1000.
But at the same time, the old stuff has such style and class.
Harry would love an old Bonny, but heyho, I'd like a merc, a boob lift and a shopping spree in new york every weekend.
Join the queue, big boy!

No sorry. I had a boring old Belstaff two piece. Kept me dry and warm as toast though.

I`ll see if I can find it !! lol
Yup- Steve just posted one!
Ours was in BRG though- and looked the business. It's one of the few bikes we've had that I could touch the floor on!
Actually- I think it's that we have some amazing before & after pics of- I'll see if I can scan them tomorrow.
I know it's not a classic but I had a ride on a Triumph Rocket3 2300 recently and it was the best ride ever!!!! biggrin

Well ...it may not be a classic but I just googled it and it looks like a proper bike to me !! lol
tis. Cruisers beat plastic bikes anyday :D
and not only coz they're the only ones that let my feet touch the ground redface
I do have a soft spot for these though
Friend of mine had a Norton Commander which he later traded in for a Frog Eyed Sprite (yellow!) but I only had a wimpsish BSA Bantam...
Ah, those were the days cool 8-) 8-)
in edit: he took the friggin front off and put a fibreglass replacement on... HERESY!

EEEEWWWWWW !! and after all you said !!! rotflmao
OK !!! I`ll come clean to
It`s jap bikes that really don`t do it for me !!
It is definately the "power ranger" look that just kills it for me ...
They look like kids toys
Indeed...........Being an Italian bike it is associated with passion and flair and is not as common as the Jap bikes nowadays...
I appreciate the engineering as well as the asthetics..
