I once knew a woman who wanted a child. She didn't want a relationship with a man. So she picked someone up at a party, did the deed, then never had any contact with him again. She's a stable, sane, intelligent woman who is now a very good mother.
There's no way you can judge someone's motives from a few words in an ad. Without knowing the background, I don't think it's right to judge them. Maybe they are unbalanced. Maybe they're not. I prefer to give people the benefit of the doubt.
Just thinking of a visit to Australia puts a smile on my face. It doesn't feel like home any more, but it'll always be a special place.
Good to hear that things have worked out well. It just shows - however bad things might look, it will work out OK in the end.
How many countries have a broadcaster as recognised and respected as the BBC?
When's your birthday, Sarge? I'm buying you a calendar.
I had a bit of trouble getting in earlier. Probably just before you saw the empty site. I think there was some little glitch somewhere. Glad it's sorted out now.
It's good to see you pop your head in from time to time, Will. You must drag Sappho in with you sometime.
Happy birthday Alex! Hope it's been a good one.
I'm home at last. First comes a big THANKS to Minxy for all of that hard work. And my most humble apologies for not realising who you were (I did and do feel very foolish). It was lovely to meet you.
It was also lovely to finally be able to put a few faces to some familiar names. The unfamiliar names too.
And to the thread-starter Daverover, I enjoyed that little chat with you and Waterbabe. Top people.
And because I can't help myself, I will grumble quietly about the music. It would have been nice to be able to hear the people I was talking to. Everyone else seemed to enjoy it though (and I must admit I enjoyed watching some of the dancing), so that's only a quiet grumble.
It's good to be back.
It would have been nice. I'm sorry I had to pull out at the last minute. It's all my fault. Me and whoever it was who decided to put Easter on a different date every year.
I just went into the kitchen to get a drink (which I then managed to pour over the capet). On the way there I happened to look out of the back window, and saw a magpie eating seed that had spilled when I last re-filled the feeder. Beautiful. I sat and watched it eat for a while, until it flew into a tree, cleaned its beak on a branch, then vanished into the sky.
What puts a smile on your face?
(I know this has been done before, but I can't find the threads)
I recently had a drive in a car that was fitted with one of the really posh fancy expensive sat-navs. There's no screen or keyboard. Just push a button, and the man in the call centre asks where you want to go. Then there's a computer voice telling you where to go.
It was useless. There's no map, so you can't see things in advance. If you miss a corner, it spends ten seconds telling you, then another ten telling you that it's finding a new route. By the time it's finished with that, you've missed the first corner of the new route.
My one experience with Tom-Tom was very different. "Accidentally" disobey, and it instantly finds a new route for you without a single grumble, or even the slightest raising of its voice. That afternoon was a lot of fun.
If I drove, I know which I'd buy.
I'm not a believer in strictly defined labels. No matter how you define them, there will always be some people who don't quite fit. And you will put someone in a category to which they don't feel they belong.
So I say: if you consider yourself a swinger, then feel free to call yourself a swinger.
And out of curiosity: would you rather get the "let's meet tonight" PMs from suitable people from the other end of the country, or from locals who clearly haven't read your profile or ads?
(I have a teleporter, but it's broken. If anyone can provide the right spares, you'll be welcome to borrow it)
Grr. No thanks from me! When are you going to organise a weekend skate so I can come along and impress you all with my serious shortage of skating skills?
Though it is nice to hear that everyone else enjoyed it.
I wish I had some sensible advice to give you. I have never smoked, so I have no experience of anything that might work.
But if you think it'd help, I'm sure the good people of SH could organise a shagging roster for you. Every time you feel the need for a ciggie, call the name on the top of the list and they'll provide you with some instant distraction. Once your body starts to associate sex with not smoking, the rest should be easy.
This must be a first. I had actually heard about this (though I've never tried - it sounded so unlikely). Peter Hoeg's book "Miss Smilla's Feeling For Snow", I think it was.
Various attempts were made through my school years to get me speaking French, German, and Japanese. None of it stuck. I was left with the feeling that I'm incapable of learning another language. It's a shame, because I'd love to be able to speak at least one.
Another one? Don't you two ever stop? Good lord. It's impossible to turn around here without the pair of you getting up to trouble of one kind or ... well, just the one kind, really.
Congratulations!
Is this the new "planning your summer holidays" thread? :-)
"Life in the United Kingdom: A Journey to Citizenship" by someone who doesn't seem to want to admit to writing it.
If you don't want the large download, will give maps and "satellite" images (the more detailed ones will have been taken from planes) of anywhere you like. They also have versions for the moon and Mars.
Google Earth (the download) lets you fly around a 3D landscape anywhere in the world. It's endless hours of fun for sad geeks like me. NASA have something similar called "World Wind".
The images are updated as they get access to new ones. Different areas will be different ages.
I'm just guessing here, but I expect it's like everything else: some like it, some don't. It's impossible to say what "women" like, as every woman is different.
