I see you've increased the number of public rooms but will you also be increasing the numbers allowed in a room again Elliot?

Not at the moment i'm afraid, we have found 70/80 to be a good tradeoff between number of users vs performance.
Also, tehnically, its a descrease in public rooms, as before you had 4 servers multiplied by 3 rooms = 12, now we have 6. However we don't anticpate the need for more than this, if so we can quickly add more.
Thanks,
Elliot.
Hi All,
Just a note to say Today / Tonight we're trialing a new way of doing the chat, this will hoepfully cut down on disconnections, and connection problems. This is now one very large server, with large capacity. We hope stopping the need to jump between servers should help a lot of people out with disconnections.
It also removed the need for the 5 minute wait and logout option.
Any questions feel free to ask.
Thanks,
Elliot
This solution may help a few people who have various issues in chat. Note this probably won't stop disconnections, or problems connecting to chat, but its well worth a go anyway!
Uninstall Flash
Download the file below and run it to remove flash player.

Reinstall Flash
Go here:

And hitting the 'Download Now' button.

Hi Guys,
You are indeed tracing the wrong servers, but nice try!! smile
tracert 1
If your having problems please do try this and paste up the results, it does help.
As has been said, 99.9% of problems are down to the network between yourself and the chat server, this could be from your wireless at home, or your router/modem, or between your ISP and the chat server, rather than the chatserver itself.
Elliot.
Hi
I've just made some adjustments that should help.
Log out, close the chat, go back in and see how you get on now.
Let me know if its a success smile
Thanks,
Elliot.
Hi,
If you're using IE7.
Tools > Internet Options > Settings button (under the tabs header).
Click on 'Restore Defaults'
Click OK, and OK again.
Close internet explorer FULLY (if you have multiple istances open), infact to be safe restart your computer.
If it still opens up in the same tab after that, its most likely other software thats causing it.
Thanks,
Elliot.
Looking at the graphs, chat usage has remained fairly constant, maybe increasing slightly.
Now the limits per server are off - so you may find people are all cramming into Chat 1, leaving the other servers looking empty.
People may be buggering off to their own rooms or regular rooms more so that sitting about in the lobby.
But one things for certain the number of users is not dropping off.
Try the link underneith, where it says 'Chatroom won't open, click here'
Let me know how you get on smile

is it just the cam boxes that has got smaller. since the change i,m finding it a lot harder to read the chat text in rooms as well which isnt very good for us with eye problems . or do i need a new pair of glasses

Chat text size has not been modified in anyway, so i'd start looking for some new glasses! lol
As for the disconnection problems - 90% of the time it is normally your ISP or connection between you, the isp and the chat server. Unless it happens at a specific time (ie when you turn your cam on, send some chat, change room, change server) its virtually impossible to find the cause.
We have plans in the near future to move the chat into THE best location (in terms of internet position) in the UK so hopefully we can stamp out disconnection issues as much as possible.

Tiz fabulous - but i am still getting that "you have been disconnected blah blah blah" thing on a daily basis ???? not complaining but just mentioning
Nuts x x x x lol

When does it happen? Do you have to do anything inparticular to trigger it? Change room, create room, turn cam on etc?
Also, who is your ISP, do you have wireless, and do you use a router?
I'll see if i can help.

We had to lose a minor amount off the cam windows because cameras can only capture images in certain resolutions. By making the video bigger than the camera can capture it was making the picture quality distorted and out of proportion. So indeed, a few millimeters have come the cam size, but the increase in quality is worth it cool
Cast your eye about 1.5 inches up from where the old join button was smile
Hi All,
Last week we moved the chat to state of the art servers located in a great position on the internet. Reliability and speed should have greatly improved.
The servers now are on much higher bandwidth connections and as a result of these we have managed to greatly increase the camera quality so its pin sharp and smooth.
Let me know your thoughts smile

Problems with the chat should now be resolved.
If you still getting issues, close the chat, wait 5 minutes and re-enter, the updates should then take effect.
If you continue to have issues after this, please do post back.
Apologies for todays issues, but hopefully thats the end of it!
I'm a little confused on this extras shortcut.
Going in via the Extras Lounge and then swapping to another area is exactly the same as clicking on a Lance or Guin link on the main chatroom page. You will still get dropped into the next available lobby with empty space in the particular server you have decided to connect too smile
Elliot.
Each chat server has 3-4 lobby rooms.
These lobby rooms fill in order.
So if the Beach Bar is the 'first' lobby room. This will fill to 80, when the next user joins, they will be directed to the Pool for instance. Once The Beach bar drops to 79, a user will be put in there. So in reality, the first lobby room will always be full, and normally the second at busy times, we place 4 incase it gets very busy (and people don't filter off to other users rooms).
The button is set to 70, so unless the lobby room drops to 69 or less, you won't get in.
Not ideal we know, again this is why we are trying to develop new chat.
And to clarify on the server point, i estimate each server can take around 3000 users. So we have 6000 users total. Extra capacity comes in the form of more rooms, not more users per room, as mentioned above, once you get too many users in a room your computer ends up giving up the ghost and flash crashing.
Again not ideal, and another reason we are wanting to get a new chat going.

OK come on then !! lol
Somebody tell me how the numbers in The pool in lancelot never get down ta 69 so`s ya can get in the room.
How come others are able to join as soon as it goes below 80 but I just get the "room full" message ??

Due to the way the current chatroom works, lobby rooms will fill to the maximum capacity the room limit is set to (which is 80). In the chat, your button limit is 70, this stops people constantly trying to join a full room (which kills the server) and allows 10 spare spaces for ops and admin to get into.
When people join its done from the server, and so the server doesn't know your button limit is 70, only the room capacity is 80, so it will fill the lobby rooms to 80.
This is not ideal, and is damn annoying, and is one of the many reasons why we are trying to get a new chatroom off the ground.
Elliot.
Hi,
The 80 was a mistake in the last version released.
The chatroom has always supposed to have been 70, we increased it to 80 to test the higher capacity servers, but due to various issues it was dropped to 70 again.
Thanks
Elliot.
Interesting stuff!
I have been reading this over the weekend but couldn't actually do anything about it until today for technical reasons.
Anyway, the interestng bit is... their supposed to be much better quality! I upped the quality and framerate settings, why its made it worse i don't know!
I will have a play again today and either set it back to how it was before, or see if i can get it better still.
Problem is with 1 and 2, is that everyone always wants to goto 1, i'm trying to find names which are neutral and gives no favourability to one server over the other.
Adam and Eve
Red and Blue
Are the two i'm liking so far smile
Hi All,
On Monday, we will be moving the 4 chat servers, into 2.
From feedback from the last test on the new super servers, we realised that some people do prefer different servers, and some people prefer the single one.
From a technical point of view, and from a user point of view, it only made sense to meet this in the middle - which means 2 super high power servers.
Chat capacity will be around 6000 users, so there will be plenty of overhead and speed.
What we need is to name the servers, or 'chat areas'. There will be two entrance buttons on the main chatroom page, where you can choose to go in either one.
Some examples have been
Arthur and Camelot
Fire and Eath
etc etc
Please keep them neutral (not North and South, Man and Woman) etc etc.
Most liked suggestion will be used.
You have until Monday lunctime.
Thanks,
Elliot.
Some background info here.
Regardless of how you perceive the 4 chat servers, they are a nightmare in terms of reliability, performance and usability, and caused many many issues with the 'balancing' of users between servers.
I can tell you now that Big Daddy (as I’ve code named it) is more powerful than the 4 old servers combined.
I'm sitting here looking at the stats, the server has 16 processors, all of which are at the 15% usage mark - the server is currently serving just under 1600 users, and pushing 120Mbps of video data.
On this particular hardware, we also have redundant power supplies and disk drives - meaning its pretty much covered on the hardware failure front. Still, we will invest in a second server which will sit as a 'hot spare', should the shit hit the fan with Big Daddy, we can quickly move to the backup server.
To list the advantages Big Daddy gives us:
1) No logout needed, simply close the window.
2) No 5 minute timeout when you get disconnected.
3) No more looking for rooms between servers.
4) Future potential for much better video quality.
5) Near Future (tomorrow) potential for larger individual room capacity.
6) Reliability and manageability.
7) Headroom - initial observation is that this server can handle 3000-4000 users.
8) One big happy community smile
Its taken many hours of research, calculations, development and trial and error to get it to this stage, and i for one am extreemly happy to see it like this.

Really difficult looking around the loads of rooms with just a little drop down list.....needs to be made bigger i think

Its on the list, give me some time :P
The bare with us was intentional, i did mean to put quotes around it but forgot!
As far as logout goes, you don't need to anymore, with one big chat there is no 5 minute wait, no need to logout.
