but i love realbooks, the smel, the feel, the thrillof going to a book shop and chosing.
love libarys, if i even win the lottery my huge house will have a huge libary, not quite the same as sitting in a small room and opening up a electronic book with all the greats in them,
books hold history, the illistrations on covers
for me it willalways be a real book

and they don't smell like new books, and they're not as tactile and they don't look good on a bookshelf.
Digging my luddite heels in on this one.
Books are brill. wink

Got to disagree with you there Nola. A "book" is the words not the physical form.
Couple of years ago a place called "seven stories" in Newcastle had an original "Harry Potter" manuscript on display, it was rumour to be insured for £3 million. But why, it was only a collection of bits of paper with words on them. Surely a photocopy of the manuscript would have as much "magic" and "enjoyment" in it?
Obviously, not refering to a one off 1000 year old illuminated scroll, but something of today.
Like someone paying £40,000 for an envelope with John Lennons first go at "Imagine" on the back. Again, why? The magic is in the song!!
John
I thought of getting one, but looking at the range of titles available was not impressed.
Loads of "classics" but I want Chris Ryan and other modern thrillers and they did not seem to be available yet.
Unless someone knows different?

Can't help but think that Fred would have made a better Prime Minister than any of the recent / current incumbants / wanabees.
Great guy, wish I'd been able to meet and talk to him.

I have a strap-on, but the box (lets be clear...packaging) is long gone, so don't know the make.
Its the third one I've had and the best! Its got leather straps, much better than any form of plastic and the actual dildo bit is a rubberish material with just enough give in it. Its hollow so is not too heavy.
Something which is vital for me, I have to put a condom on it before it is used on me. Two reasons, 1, hygene, 2, find the rubber dries me out a lot, condom lubrication helps.
I actually had some fun with it last night. The woman I was with had never used a strap-on before, she loved being on the recieving end, but found she did not like to give with it.

If your clever you'll learn from your mistakes......if your REALLY clever you'll learn from other people's mistakes!!!
History shows you lots of other peoples mistakes, unfortunatly very few of our leaders seem to understand that!!
But its no good just knowing our history, its as well to know the history of the other guy. Then you might see his point of view.
John
And snake belts!!! Those buggers were a real risk to life and limb when they were flicked at you.

Every year we get a Christmas card from someone who simply signs themselves "Carol".
We have no idea who this might be from!! (No Christmas Carol jokes please, thats just too easy)
Its not "Carol and Family", so infers single woman.
It has no second name as you might put in if you don't really know the recipients very well.
It is addressed to us by name and with correct address.
There is no senders address on it, therefore we can't send a card back or discover who it is from. But we've had one of these cards for about the last seven years and its driving us crazy!!!!
So, just in case Carol is reading this, please reveal yourself..........especially if your a drop dead gorgeous bi-sexual woman who's father owns a brewery.

In Berlin, spring 1945, the British and Americans were over the Rhine. The Russians were not far from Berlin and the city was being pounded from the air, night and day. The place was in ruins, no hope of victory.
BUT, if an ordinary Berliner was to say out loud any expression which doubted ultimate victory and was overheard by a member of the Nazi party, Gestapo or SS, they would be hung from the nearest lampost with a sign round their neck which said "Defeatist"
So of course, no-one with any sense said anything other than, "we believe in Victory".
This was totally false of course, but because of the fear of consequences, people said in public stuff which kept them safe from reprisals.
I am coming to the opinion that to a lesser extent that this is happening in this Country today. Which leads to the answer that we have a lot less freedom of speach than we used to.

Nah, sorry Dave its not fundamentalist Nudists doing it.
Allegedly all the clubs in Cap are owned by shaddy characters out of Marsaills. Glamour went up in "mysterious" circumstances earlier this year. But it was on a day when the wind direction ensured the close by buildings were not touched. And the plans for the new, replacement Glamour were with the local Council the very next day!!
That second club mentioned had allegedly upset someone from the above mentioned gentlemen.
Tanta was showing its age, so another "mysterious" fire occurs. Bet there is a real nice new Tantra next year.
Last year the old tatty sauna club had a "mysterious" fire. The new sauna is twice as big and great inside.
Whenever you hear the word "fire" in Cap it is always after the word "mysterious".
Don't be put off Cap by the above, ordinary visitors never see any problems. All the fires tend to be in the closed season.

Anybody know if you get charged VAT on holidays? Close to booking up for next year and on a £1000 holiday its £25 saved. Not a fortune, but worth having.

Don't know if you can compare the individual bad habits against each other. But lets say the drink driving limit was lowered to zero and because of the harsh penalities most everybody stopped drink driving.
Should we then have the same penalities for using hand held mobile phones?
And the same penalities for touching the sat nav screen while driving?
And how about an alertness test so that only people who are 100% fully awake can drive??
And the same penalties for exceeding the speed limit'
......cos after all these cause accidents same as drink driving!
See where I'm going with this?
How about this? Everyone to retake their driving test every ten years and anyone who is involved in an accident which is their fault due to drinking, using a mobile, fiddling with a sat nav, falling asleep etc, has to take and pass an advanced driving test before they can go back on the road? Anyone else in favour?
John
The drink driving issue is an easy one for people to latch onto. But a quick search shows many other, avoidable, practices are also to blame for crashes.
EG.
Drivers' failure to pay attention, rather than speed, is now the main cause of road accidents, according to government figures published yesterday.
Motoring groups campaigning against speed cameras urged the government to shift the emphasis of safety campaigns from speed to drivers' concentration and avoidance of distractions such as phones, music and satellite navigation systems.
For the first time the accident statistics include contributory factors, and failure to look properly was the one most frequently reported, in 32% of cases last year, the Department for Transport (DfT) reported.

So, who here has a sat nav system and can say, honestly, they never touch it while driving? I admit to that.
Mobile phones, I see loads of people still using them, clamped to their ears. (I'm hands free).
Always 100% fully awake? I sometimes hit the Red Bull and Proplus to ward off fatigue, but falling
asleep at the wheel is a major cause of crashes.
And who can say they NEVER exceed the speed limit???
So back to the orginal question, Your body can get rid of 1 unit of alcohol per hour, so if you have less than that per hour you will not get drunk. So someone having say a pint of shandy from 7pm to 8pm then a soft drink or two till 9pm then another shandy till 10pm ect ect will not be over the limit.
The other problem with the reports of "drunk drivers" is that to be a "drunk driver" you have to be over the statutary limit, so someone who has had less than the legal limit, but is still involved in a crash is not a "drunk driver" in the eyes of the law. So difficult to say that someone who has had, for instance, one pint of lager shandy, then is involved in a crash does so because of being "drunk", I'd suggest that one pint of lager shandy would certainly NOT make me "drunk", but I could well crash because of fiddling with the sat nav.
But you know what gets me really, really mad?? Try getting non-alcoholic drinks such as Kaliber in most bars. They look at you as if your mad. And if they actually have it probably going to be twice the price of an alcoholic drink of the same size.
If the Gov. really wanted to help stop drink driving they'd force all bars to stock it at a price cheaper than ordinary beers.

Seems the main time for Brits is last couple of weeks in June.
We're going back then and know of loads of other couples who are going at same time. Most of us stay in apartments or villa tho.

Judging by the amount of un-safe sex we saw in the clubs in France this year, not many people have seen that!!!

Thanks from us also for putting on the party and doing all the food, all the hard work was appreciated.

And does it depend upon which foreign country the charity donations are going to?
For instance the New Orleans floods, in the richest country on earth many people were left homeless and destitute. Should CiN money go there? Maybe it should as there are many really, really poor people in America. But how would people feel to be asked to contribute to American poverty?
Likewise India, a country which can send a rocket to the Moon, if they are rich enough to do that do they need foreign charity money?
Personally I can't answer for the above, but prefer to give directly to charities which help children and animals.
John & Shel
I was asked as an "ice breaker" on a course; "What makes you different to everyone else?"
I answered; D.N.A.
It seemed to stop there.

According to the news the police think three 20ish lads beat up the 92 year old disabled ex-doctor.
The Royal Marines have an excercise called "Milling" basically you have to go at your opponent for 1 minute. Candidates are scored on their determination, while blocking and dodging result in points deducted. Candidates now wear head protection, and boxing gloves.
If these lads think three to one is fair odds, why not let three Royal Marines at each of them for three minutes each? The head protection and boxing gloves could be put aside for this.

Watch out for all those people on bikes!! Your more likely to get run over by a bike than a car.

In the first World War, a German Field Marshall described British troops as;
"Lions led by Donkeys"
Think it is a fate of our nation that those words apply to the whole of the British people rather than just British troops.

For certain Gurkhas should be allowed to live and work here.
How come there has not been some sort of on-line petition about this, along the lines of the one which got the petrol tax increase scrapped last year (or the year before)?
