Not strictly true...
...it may be local policy specific to a particular service but, as far as the legal stuff goes, once you claim exemption to the statutory speed limit there is no upper limit. That said, all drivers of emergency vehicles are still bound by other parts of the the law which require then to drive safely and with due care and attention!
Irritating fact: most road users have absolutely no feckin' idea WHAT to do when an emergency vehicle on blues 'n' twos approaches them.

I've worked some bloody long and weird shift times in my career, so the advent of 24-hr supermarkets was fluckin fantastic - it meant that I could still pick up shopping on the way home, despite working godawful hours and so at least I didn't have to crawl out of bed the following day to go and buy essentials. 
It's soooooooooooooooo peaceful in there in the wee hours too! Just a shame the booze sections have to close
as there have been a few times I've driven home after a hellish shift thinking "I could really do with a beer when I get in..." but knowing that the house was dry!
