When she switches the power on at the mains (the plug on the wall) does the computer emit any beeps?

The main reason for this is how you are sending your emails to the AOL account. AOL can not support HTML emails. Most email clients now-a-days send html emails as default.
Try it again but ensure that you are sending 'text only'. That doesn't mean no pictures etc, but the email itself should be set to text in the settings before you compose it.
Hope this helps.
If you are still having problems I can provide a connectivity test to the accounts and explain in detail why things are not getting through.

I always send my emails as Text Only and still have problems with their over enthusiastic spam filter.
I have real problems with AOL to the extent that I place warnings on some of my contact pages that my email to AOL may not get through.
If you prefix the subject with RE: your email has a better chance of getting through. Also make sure you don't use any words connected with pharmaceuticals, sex, accounts (accounting), Register, Pay, buying, selling or making a transaction in the subject your email and, if possible, in the body of your email!
If you're running a business using an AOL email account you are losing business hand over fist!
AOL also block all SMTP email unless your MX record contains your custom reverse DNS record. This is only of relevence to those with their own SMTP Servers.

You maybe using a proxy server that is serving "Stale" pages. After typing in the verification letters and pressing enter press CTRL+F5 and see if that lets you in.
AOL erm where do I start...
AOL is aimed at the Newbie and the family who have absolutely no idea about computers but want to be able to use the internet. Now there is nothing wrong with that. AOL basically makes using the Internet and Email a "no brainer".
What annoys the IT professionals about AOL is that they totally ignore as many "standards" as they can and blame everybody except themselves. A bit like Microsoft really smile .
AOL has a huge chunk of the US "gormless" market* and the scammers market, therefore think that they can do what they want.
Because AOL flouted the standards virtually every scammer in the US used them to send out spam, viruses, trojans etc. AOL found themselves buried under an tonnes of crap emails and their own scamming customers ripping off their new "gormless" customers. So decided to do something about it. They decided that they would crack down on all external email rolleyes rather than clean their own house. This basically isolated AOL users who just used to scam each other especially the gormless newbies.
AOL realised their mistake but being run by arseholes, who thought they were invincible, wouldn't admit their mistake. They quietly got rid of as many scammers as possible but the scammers just signed up with different credentials.
Which virtually brings us to the present day.
So what you have is a virtually closed system which ignores as many standards as possible and invents hurdles for the non AOL user.
Quite simply, people who have an idea how to use a computer don't use AOL. For those of you who have no idea how to use a computer
Anyone who wishes to flame me re this post please use
* Note: the US gormless market as opposed to the gormless US market. :P

The best deal I've found so far is:
1MB for
2MB for
No bandwidth limits (BT eat your heart out!!! biggrin )

I'm afraid that in my opinion, the best deal around does not even take price into account.
We have been on BT Broadband for around 4 years. In that time we have had by memory one outage that lasted around 2 hours, and another that lasted 30 minutes.
Having been on the internet at home for over 15 years, I've been there and done that as far as changing providers for lower priced deals, more web space, more email addresses etc etc.
My number one concern for my internet connection is exactly that! I want to be connected to the internet with a reliable connection, free from drop outs, and at a speed that I feel is acceptable.
The fact that I can shave a pound or two off the monthly fee is (again in my opinion) of little consequence when you are screaming at your router to connect. I was once with compuserve many years ago, and the only way to cancel your agreement was online. The reason I wanted to leave them was because I couldnt get on line. It took three days and nights of constant dialing up with the 14k modem just to kick them in to touch.

Reliability is a done deal. I won't contemplate any ISP who cannot offer exceptional reliability.
For both of the recommendations I can honestly say that the only times they have failed was when some twat digging up the road cut the main fibre optic line between us and Carlisle and when BT had a "card failure" in Manchester last Saturday. Both were beyond the control of the ISP.
Being in the "sticks" redundancy would be nice and the twat that cut the main fibre optic cable was actually laying a second cable to offer the redundancy!! BTW the same twat has also cut the Electricty and water a couple of times. We are praying that he'll cut the gas pipe  then we might get someone who can do the job.
Make sure you have performed all the updates for both the OS and the Web Server and change your pasword to something impossible
The best deal I've found so far is:
1MB for
2MB for
No bandwidth limits (BT eat your heart out!!! biggrin )
1 month minimum contract (though if you cancel during the first year you have to pay BT's 50 quid connection charge).
The next best deal I've found is:
512KB for before you say I've lost it... No Contention - that means it doesn't slow down as more people start using their broadband), 1 month minimum contract, up to 8 static IPs for free, the best Technical Support on an 0870 number (no premium rate support calls) I have ever come across and the usual - if you cancel during the first year you have to pay BT's 50 quid connection charge.
A word to the wise.
If you are using AOL for business you are losing business as AOL blocks virtually all emails which contain the words:AccountRegisterRegistrationFreeOfferSpecialthe usual expletivesUnless you put the word "RE:" as the first word on the subject line.
Make sure backgrounds of "similar" frames are transparent and cut down the number of colours.
Keyboards are ten a penny. You can pick up a cheap one for about (not from PC World as they are quite expensive). Having said that PC World are doing a Labtec Wireless keyboard and mouse for which is half price.

...Are these servers the Pipex DNS servers ?? or another (Open) ISP ?? If not Pipex, they may not work.

Pipex's
You don't need an external IP (Static) for the Router. It will have it's own internal IP usually starting So can't see the problem using it. Just get the settings from Pipex's site.
They will be something like:
Protocol: PPPoA
VPI 0
VCI 38 (VPI/VCI is sometimes shown as 0/38)
Encapsulating Type: VC MUX
Modulation:
Your Username
Your Password
Authentication: PAP or CHAP
Primary DNS server:
Secondary DNS server:
I preferred the book to the film. The film was very tame.
Make sure System Restore is switched OFF prior to starting in safe mode.
It may take a couple of runs in safe mode using Spybot and AVG but that should sort it.
Make sure Spybot and AVG are up to date prior to running them.
Once cleaned and back in "normal" mode switch System Restore back on (in CONTROL PANEL >SYSTEM)

In Highgate, North London, there are three large natural ponds that are open to swimmers. One male, one female, one mixed. Nudity is allowed in the single sex areas only.

I thought the Council were going to close them this year. Usual council inept excuse of safety or some such bollox.
Anyone else spotted Calista's new avatar?
That cat looks extremely pissed off!

I'm told it's free and they vigorously check the providers for viruses, dialers and the like.
