Whilst premium bonds are a great option there is a minimum purchase of £100, which isn't practical for those on a low income, who are just trying to put something aside to have a good holiday.
Saving can be extremely difficult when you don't have a lot and many people find it easier to have a locked in plan as opposed to something they can access.
It means the money is there at the time and for the purpose it was saved for.
Also, I don't think it automatically means that people are squandering money on a useless holiday, nor on pointless gifts for children.
They might just be trying to make it an enjoyable holiday for themselves and their families.
I feel for those who'll lose out on this, I would be gutted.

I replied, there are other measures there to support them.

If they let the other party know they weren't going to show then why would it worry them so much, a lot of people have had to cancel meets before now for one thing or another?
If they didn't let them know and just didn't show up then on that occassion they were timewasting.
What about the person/couple they were supposed to meet?
