I don't bother with decorations now, or a tree, but when the kids were little it was usually paper chains they had spent all day putting together. biggrin
I'm really not a fan of lights everywhere, singing snowmen, or tack in general.
If I bothered now I think I'd probably go just for a simple silver and gold theme, fairly minimal.
I absolutely, positively HATE having my hair pulled, at any time. It is one thing that can make my temper flare up. I keep mine very short, so no-one can grab hold of it (and I don't get helmet hair either wink )
When I had my first child, my hair was so long I could sit on it. It only took my son tangling his fingers in it a couple of times and pulling on it to make me have it cut.(It was either that, or have him adopted biggrin )
I've been in a rather reflective mood ever since I posted about childhood memories, and I've been thinking about life defining moments today. The first one I can really remember is when I was 11. My gradfather died unexpectedly, and my whole life changed.
My grandfather was head groom at a racing stables, got a large cottage as part of his job, and my parents and I lived there with them. When my grandfather died, we lost our home and had to move into 'THE TOWN'. I hated it. I hated having other people all around me, I hated the concrete and busy roads, I hated only having a paved yard instead of acres of fields around me. What was worse though, was the way my mother changed.
She had been a child very much like me, growing up at the stables, a real tomboy. She never minded me coming home covered in muck, or with a broken arm because I'd fallen out of the barn yet again redface , or the constant stream of injured wildlife I would bring home to try to nurse better. But moving into the town changed her totally. She became obsessive about tidyness. She became materialistic and determined to 'keep up with the Jones's'. She decided I needed to become more ladylike and tried to get me to join Brownies(cissy's) and go to ballet lessons  (That only lasted one lesson too. I got barred biggrin )
And then I went and did something really stupid. I passed the 11+ and won a scholarship to THAT SCHOOL! I still cringe now when I remember the way she dressed me up in the uniform and paraded me all around the area just so that the neighbours would know I was going there. I wanted the ground to open up and swallow me. surprisedops:
So that's my life defining moment. My grandfather died, and my whole life turned to shit for several years. What is your first life-defining moment, good or bad?
I won a £100 voucher for Planet Bikes at a toy run last year biggrin

I think at the beginning, it was important to me how i was perceived by others.... because at that stage it was a case of trying to fit in.........new bunch of people, new surroundings and atmosphere
but times have changes and and so have I.... to be honest now I couldn't really give a fig what people think of me (in the nicest way of course).... if they like me and find me interesting then that is cool and fine by me, it not.... then such is life and you are not going to be able to please everybody all the time......
everything is now like water off a ducks back, same attitude with work, if i get into heated disscuuions with people.... the computer goes off... I switch off, end of........
All i can do is be the best me i can, and only 2 people know if i am doing that, me and the person upstairs......... if that aint enough for some people.... or if that rubs people up the wrong way.... then tough!!!!

Couldn't have put it better myself.
I know there are people on the forum who don't like me, and I really don't give a shit. To be honest, they are mostly people who tend to make me grit my teeth anyway, and I'm certainly not going to lose any sleep over the fact that they disapprove. You can't please everyone all the time, so just be you, and you will always find people who appreciate you for who you are.

can any one remember" pogles wood "on watch with mother or am I really from another planet!

Yes, it was around the same time as Hectars House and Bill and Ben, Mary Mungo and Midge ,Mister Ben and Dactari with Clarence the Lion followed by Banana Splits smile
Aahh,It was great wasn't old man was pogle and he just used to refer to his wife as wife and go mad when he didn't have his chauvenistic bastard!
OMG!!!
I thought I was the only person in the world who remembered Pogles Wood..............Plant and his Bilberry wine!
Tripe
That was one thing I just wouldn't eat. I couldn't even stay in the house if it was being cooked redface
Dripping though......................on toast made in front of the fire................with lots of jelly and crunchy bits..........................sheer heaven!
Getting a whole threepenny bit to spend at the October Fair biggrin
Climbing to the top of the tallest tree and staying up there all night in protest at my Mum wanting me to wear a dress
Going to Brownies.................once.................and refusing to ever go again because they were 'sissies' :D
Watching the old 'push-me-pull-you' steam trains and waving to the drivers.
Mushrooming at dawn.
Chatting at lunchtime today there was a stunned silence when I announced that I hadn't lived in a house with a bathroom and indoor toilet until I was 11, or a house with central heating until I was 16. One of the youngsters then said,'But you're not THAT old!' Yes, he is still breathing biggrin
It got me thinking though, how different things are just 30 years on.
When I was 8 I used to chop wood and lay and light the fires. I could pluck and dress pheasants, pigeons and chickens, and skin and joint a rabbit. I used to eat things that kids today would vomit at................pigs heads, pigs trotters, chittlings, brawn, sheeps hearts and brains. At weekends if I wasn't needed to ride work on the horses I would disappear off all day with the dogs, just running wild. I used to walk 4 miles to school and back, summer and winter, and never thought anything of it.
My bath was a tin tub in the kitchen in front of the Aga, the toilet was outside, and at night I used the 'guzunder' (because it guz under the bed :D )
My companions were the dogs, the horses, and the stable lads. I could climb any tree, ride any horse, was a dead-shot with a catapault. I was usually covered in horse shit, mucky from head to foot and I was a total tomboy. I didn't even know what a television set was!
I suppose to some, it may sound like I had a deprived childhood. I didn't. I was happy, healthy, fit and energetic. Would I swap my childhood for the soft, over-protected, couch-potato lifestyle of so many children today? Not bloody likely!
So how about you? What are your memories of childhood......................and would you have changed yours in any way?
Good on ya, Pete.
I totally agree. I would have posted more last night, but even I have to sleep sometimes biggrin
I was so gob-smacked at the sight I didn't really notice his name redface
Well, I was watching a guy on cam the other week who could suck the end of his own cock......................does that count?
biggrin :D :D
I allegedly have 5 new mails................would LOVE to be able to read them but they aren't even in my Inbox biggrin
