It seems to be a combination of several issues. I'm no stranger to actionscript myself, and I have to say I really don't think it's a suitable environment for processor intensive tasks like running video chats.
Firstly, there appears to be no cap on the size of any strings, so the storage space eaten up by the 'log' of messages, the user name lists, the profile name lists, the chatroom lists etc. just grows and grows until performance degrades so much the user gives up!
Secondly, there appear to be race states between the local machine and server if you do anything before all the status data has reached the client from the server
Thirdly, there is some sort of exponential-time process happening when typing long responses. I can literally hear my processor fan spinning up if I type long lines of text!
I think the only feasible method of fixing this without employing a really serious actionscript guru to implement infallible garbage-collection routines and optimise the code, is to go back to basics and have a java IRC client again, and trim the Flash section own to just handling the cams. This would have the triple benefits of allowing the old moderation system to be used, allowing Mirc access, and allowing any sort of automated policing/censoring (which the new room so despetately needs) to be carried out by a fairly simple to write IRC bot.
Condoms are never 100% safe, since they sometimes break, but they do offer a great deal of protection against most (but not all) STDs.
If you want to know more, I suggest talking to a doctor rather then a bunch of perves :-)
Try (a free NHS information site aimed at 'young guns'!) to find out what people who really know about this sort of thing have to say.
Oh, and you can always edit your posts, by clicking the 'edit' button if you want to tidy up spellling
The new advert censorship system is only filtering text in adverts, not in the short extracts of adverts shown on 'category' pages.
You can't do animation with a .jpg - my animated .gif was put up before the site was changed, so it looks like I'll be wearing a christmas hat for the forseeable future!
The site no longer supports .gif files, only .jpg files.
Since all animated avatars are .gif files, they are not visible your photos. To make a new avatar, you have to upload it as one of 'your photos', then it will appear as an avatar choice.
All the regulars from before the recent change of ownership were given 'premium membership' for free, which is nice fo us, but it does mean that none of the regulars have been through the payment process, or experienced unpaid status!
I think it's worth adding that I think the users preferred solution to this would be to provide a free-text field for forum location, as before, rather than linking forum location to the advert system location. This would allow users to be as specific or as vague as they choose on the forum.
The complete answer to this is a bit complicated...
There are several different types of thing that all get called broadband, but the 2 you might be talking about are ADSL, which comes over a phone line, and Cable, wich comes over the same connector as Cable TV.
If you decide to get broadband from a cable TV company like NTL or Telewest, and you don't already have cable TV, then you'll need a bit of drilling and cabling done to get hooked up to their cable service.
If you get ADSL from AOL (or preferably anybody other than AOL!), then you simply have to plug some extra boxes (microfilters and a router) into your phone sockets, and that's all there is to it... usually!
The exceptions are people without a BT phone line ,who would need to get one installed, or people who don't have phone sockets, but have those old phones that are wired straight into the wall, which are incredibly rare these days.
I the ability to change this was removed when the redesign of the site happened. I suggest you post this in the 'glitch' thread stickied at the top of the forum.
Let's have a bit of culture...
Friends, Romans, countrymen, lend me your pants!
Pants, O Pants, Wherefore art thou Pants?
Something is rotten in the pants of Denmark!
There are more things in heaven and earth, Horatio, than are dreamt of in your pants.
I could be bounded in a nutshell, and count myself a king of infinite space, were it not that I have bad pants.
To be, or not to be, that is the question:
Whether 'tis nobler in the mind to suffer
The slings and arrows of outrageous pants?
There's a whole genre of porn catering to your taste, try searching your favourive source for "Gonzo".
I'm fed up with all these 'how superheroes got started' films. How many times can a film be made with the same plot of 'accident / discovery of powers / internal conflict about powers / sod all that, just get on with saving the world'?
X-men, Spider-Man, Batman, Batman Begins, The Fantastic Four, The Hulk (and the new Sup[erman film)... are all just the SAME film with a few details changed. Superhero films can be good, but Hollywood would rather stick to the same old formula, all these ones I've mentioned put together don't have the plot, inventiveness and insight of 'The Incredibles', which was supposed to be a kids movie!
The sad thing is that this 'accident / discovery of powers / internal conflict about powers / sod all that, just get on with saving the world' plot was actually handled in a brilliantly different way by a much overlooked film, 'Unbreakable', which wasn't the box office smash that the others were - presumably because it wasn't all about computer graphics effects, and spent much more of it's time dealing with characters and motivations.
While I'm on a rant... 'The English Patient" - how boring was that? Telling a story out of sequence doesn't equal intellectual insight.
I will admit to being rather impressed with 'charlie and the chocolate factory' though, which managed to both be a scene-by-scene retelling of the earlier film where necessary, and to add a whole new layer dealing with Wonka's quirkiness, which is simply presented as a fixed fact by the book and first film.
A heartfelt congratulations to two of the nicest people you could hope to meet, I wish you both all the best!
I'm glad that comment didn't hut your feelings.
Back in my newbie days, when I thought this was a quick shag site, a large percentage of ads used to include the phrase "must be discreet", so I decided to literally 'be discreet'. It's a fairly silly name, but then again, I'm a fairly silly person.
The 'Mister' was something of an afterthought, but it's served me wll over the years, I hardly ever get unwanted PMs from semi-literate men!
how about a sticky for postcode/chatroom rants?
The 'ignore' function on the forum is not behaving as expected.
If a user you are ignoring sends you a PM, then your 'new mail' indicator will flash, but no mail will appear in your inbox. The only known way to turn the 'new mail' indicator off is to take the user off ignore, and open the PM, which rather defeats the purpose of ignoring them!
Additionally, the user sending the unwanted PM is able to see the read/unread status of the PM in their outbox, which may not be desirable (I can see this one causing rows, just like the 'block function on MSN!)

I'm seeing this:
21/12/2005 @ 13:04 RedHot Ignorance is bliss
so it's not showing as read... is a visit to the glitch thread in order?
So the sender does not know they are being ignored?
I'm interested tooo... Add me and I'll try!
Before, there was a global forum setting that let you choose to recieve a notification or not. I'm still getting the notifications, as I had this turned on pre-facelift, so I expect the functionality is still there and it's just the button that is missing.
Following on from that, I have another glitch to report, I'm unable to log in from any pages othe than the lists of topics - if I go to an particular thread (by following a link in a notifcation mail for example), nothing happens when I enter my name/password.
Following the convention of reporting missing functionality that the old site had in the glitch thread, it seems we no longer have the ability to use .gif files for avatars (I'm reluctant to investigate as I don't want to lose mine... at least not until after christmas!)
Would the staff find it useful for the members to compile a single, up to date list of glitches/missing functionality issues, and rate their severity?
