The Palestinians living in Gaza elected the Hamas party, which is a Palestinian terrorist organization (recognised as such by Canada, the European Union, Japan and the US), to be their leaders and representatives. Hamas has continued to bomb Israel, to send suicide bombers to Israel and to build illegal underground tunnels into Israel. A truce was negotiated between Hamas and Israel, but despite the truce Hamas continued to bomb Israel. Israel issued a warning to Hamas and notified Egypt, who share a border with Gaza, that if Hamas' bombing continues Israel will take action. Hamas ignored the warning and continued the bombing. Several days in advance of actually commencing retaliatory strikes, Israel sent a message to notify thousands of Hamas Palestinian people that Israel did intend to attack the Hamas military infrastructure, and for Hamas to ensure that civilians are removed from Hamas military zones. Hamas ignored the warning and still continued bombing Israel and allowed Palestinian civilians to continue living near Hamas military sites. Hamas held army recruit graduation ceremonies on two Hamas bases despite the explicit warnings from Israel to evacuate the military areas. Hamas did not evacuate the local civilian population and continued bombing Israel. The Israelis retaliated in self-defence. The causes for the outbreaks of violence have been said by previous posters, but it should be noted that Jewish Israel have never expressed any religious hatred towards Muslims whereas Hamas quite clearly states it’s policy of anti-Semitism. In Israel, Muslims make up approx. 17% of the population and they live in peace with their neighbours. Current population of Jews in Gaza - 0%. In a nutshell, Hamas say that Israel is their land, the Israelis say it’s theirs. Archaeological digs have found Hebrew texts and other historical evidence to show that Jews had occupied the general area of Israel since before 2000 BC. Islam was founded in the mid 7th Century AD. You do the maths and decide who has the right to live there. The Jews have been persecuted by many nations throughout their history - they won’t take any more Muslim shit.

Cant really see it making a difference tbh. People will always smoke regardless and the government cannot ban it completely without raising the tax from elsewhere (ie none smokers)
The smoking ban in pubs, I can live with, What isnt so nice is seeing a load of smokers stood outside a pub and none smokers having to walk through it just to enter the pub, It has not made the pubs have more custom i dont think

This kind of comment really pisses me off. You've already pushed smokers out of pubs so you can enjoy your smoke-free boozing, so ffs stop whinging about the smokers outside. If you don't like it, fuck off to another pub. Another thing that annoys me is non-smokers taking the sheltered seats outside that are meant for smokers. I find a lit fag-end "accidentally" dropped down their blouse/shirt soon shifts them.
I smoke myself!! and its more a complaint of smokers having no where else but the front door to smoke with many pubs

Last time I looked 1p's and 2p's were legal tendar in this country. So where is the problem. Is there something in your rule book that says fines should be paid in the least amount of notes possible.
Have to admit when i clicked the link i expected to see something horrendous. Cant see the point of sweating the small stuff.

The woman comitted an offence and was caught and punished for it. The legal system works, so what's the problem here? As the chart below states, if she offered the amount in 1p's and 2p's the council wouldn't legally have to accept it. That they did shows compassion to a stupid woman. Good for them.

I'm glad the US have voted in a man of colour, just so that when he fucks up the First World will know that a black person can be just as big an arse-licking, sycophantic douche-bag as anyone else.

You mean Idi Amin Dada and Robert Mugabe have done wonders then?
But I agree with the sentiment. Walking the kids to school I heard the kids shouting "We have done it, black power". WTF do they think Obama will do for them? Invade the UK and make us another state of the USA?
I think alot of people voted for him because of his colour, instead of the policies. Mind you I remember the last primaries with Colin Powel.......now that is a man I would vote for even if he had shit policies. So voting for someone on just their bearing is just as bad.....and I am guilty of that lol
Dave_Notts
To be fair, they were black leaders of mainly black-populated countries and I did specify First World as opposed to Third World. But you're right - a lot of the world appears to see Obama's win as a victory for blacks, not for all people. And of course, Thatcher was also a great role-model for feminists, wasn't she?

Obama will probably win so in 4 years time he can be blamed for not cleaning up the mess Dubya created, then he'll be voted out ready for some other bible-toting white, middle-aged, middle-America fuckwit. rolleyes
Basically he's about to become the US's whipping boy... the poor bastard! sad

Hooray!! America now has a bible-toting, 50% white 50% black, middle-aged, middle-American fuckwit for a president. Do you think it's the colour of his skin that makes him the best choice? If so, you are truly a racist b*st*rd. I'm glad the US have voted in a man of colour, just so that when he fucks up the First World will know that a black person can be just as big an arse-licking, sycophantic douche-bag as anyone else.
The subject of this thread seems to have become a "freedom of speech" issue ie "can we make jokes about paedophiles and morally get away with it?"
My answer is most definitely FUCK YEAH! We've had so many of the freedoms of speech in the form of jokes that we've had taken away from us by those who can legally fight back - minorities, the disabled and mothers-in-law to name but a few. Victims of paedophiles, yes - I feel sorry for you blah-di blah-di blah, but please don't take away yet another outlet for the sick humour that is so British. Paedophiles deserve the harshest punishments possible - public derision could be included.
So now a hero is someone who can run a bit faster, jump a bit higher or chuck something a bit further than someone else? I suppose the English language will now have to come up with a new term for the real heroes in life. rolleyes

on subject.....the south is a cold impersonal place

Gosh, lucky you - I take it from that statement that you've visited every town and village in the South? And spoken to every citizen?? Or do you mean the weather and topography? Well, the South has a warmer climate in general, and yes, if you talk to rocks or patches of grass they'll be pretty impersonal.
I can make sweeping inaccurate statements about the north too - people only smile and say hello to you to distract you whilst one of their 10 kids steals your car's wheels.
I won't be watching or acknowledging this Olympics at all. IMO any athlete of good conscience should boycott this event in protest at China's apalling human rights' policies, especially concerning Tibet.
If China were a poor third world country, we and the Americans would have invaded it by now.

Is veganism really that complicated??!! What about leather shoes, belts, wallets etc? How about cardboard boxes? The glue used in them has an ingredient derived from animal urine. It must be very hard to know what you can and can't morally use?

Vegetarianism is hard enough! My daughter is vegetarian and we have to inspect the labels on everything.
Good lord!!! I'm what I call "a secondary vegetarian" - the cow eats the grass, I eat the cow!!!

My pet hate? When you phone a company with a problem/complaint. The first person who answers wants to know the problem so you spend ages telling them. They then tell you they can't deal with it and put you through to "Mr Smith". You then spend ages telling him the problem, to which he replies "oh, that's not my department I'll put you through to "Mrs Jones". etc etc etc ad naseum until you're finally told that the person who can deal with your problem is off sick/on annual leave/only works part time and can you phone back another time??

By reading Cherrytree's original post I have deduced that there are two questions to be answered.
1. "How important is correct spelling on this forum?"
2. "...does anyone on this forum have the right to criticise, make fun of, or belittle someone's post purely because of the spelling?"
As to the first question, correct spelling on the forum for me is not that important - sometimes the words flow quicker than the brain can spell or fingers can type. I would hate to see replies "lose heat" if they are too meticulously checked first. However, correct spelling in a PM is very important. To me, poor spelling and text speak denote laziness of thought and action - not the kind of person I would care to have truck with.
As to the second question - my answer is yes, absolutely. I would fight to the death for my freedom of speech, which has been battered enough by today's pc brigade. Saying that, I wouldn't bother criticising anyone's post for poor spelling - I'd just sit back and chuckle at the thicky to myself. Now, if you'll excuse me - I have a busy weekend of Dwarf Throwing and fox hunting.
Kojak was my fave as a child - I thought Telly Savalas was such a lovely person in real life, and later when I watch repeats - bewilderingly attractive!
Also, as a real blast from the past - Dixon of Dock Green. What I consider to be the last, and best portrayal of "proper coppers".

I don't get involved anymore, it's not worth the trouble.
A sad reflection on the society in which we live.

I partly agree with browning on this one - I have in the past tried to help people in trouble. On one occasion I was punched and on the other occasion I had to attend court as a witness 3 times and miles away, which was a very harrowing and eventually fruitless (no conviction) exercise. Now, all I will do (and I've done this once) is watch the crime, took a surreptitious pic on my phone and reported it anonymously to Crimestoppers. Whether anything came of it, I don't know - but I contributed my bit without putting myself in any kind of risk. A bit half-hearted I know, but at least it was something.

If you want to visit the Island (as the locals call IOW) you can take the coast road from Bournemouth to Lymington and catch the ferry from there. Lymington's a lovely town with a beautiful harbour (and very posh yacht club!) and it's also on the Southern tip of the New Forest. At this time of year the forest's lambs, foals, calves etc are prolific and gorgeous. Just be careful when you drive through the Forest - the animals roam free (usually right in front of your car!) and the donkeys, although very cute, aren't well-known for their intelligence!
Have a lovely time - I know you will!

i was sat thinking that ive only ever been out on a few "dates" in my lifetime. Ive met people while out and kinda fallen into a loose relationship or met via swinging.
this got me to thinking has being a gentleman disapeared ??
im a independent woman and i am happy to pay my way, thats not what im talking about but.. let me define what i mean here using the word gentleman...
they would turn up on time, dressed and smelling nice, open doors for the lady, car dors , seats out etc.
so men, is it that when you meet a woman via swinging you feel they dont deserve the curtosey of having a door opened, or that you think they would be offended if you did this?
do you act differently when socially meeting re swinging than if you were on a date?
women, is it just the guys im meeting or am i being old fashioned expecting this?
would you be offended if a man opened a door for you?
and slight side track , but am i the only one to feel moloncholy about the days when men wore shirts and ties and aftershave? i go out these days and no one seems to dress up to go out anymore?
maybe im just getting old
xx fem xx
sorry for the spelling mistakes

I am a Lady with a capital "L" and I expect my male dates to be Gentlemen. If I was "an independent woman" I don't think it would be fair to demand anything more than an "independent man". Quid pro quo and all that!

As has been mentioned above, the Red Cross or the physiotherapy dept at your local general hospital should be able to help.
Also, many disabled people are physically quite weak so you could just shove one of them off their chair and run off with it. I know that's mean, but just couldn't help it!

The Aston Martin is the epitome of British-ness. It has a history of class, style and a pedigree as long as your arm. It was also the most famous (and best) car driven by Sean Connery as James Bond.
Ferraris are flashy, vulgar (IMO) and built by hairy little Italians (though they might not all be little).
An Aston for me every time please!

what punishment would you advocate for this guy??

Life with no parole, but again the question should be why? what possesed a man to do this and does this call a question that maybe not enough is being done to understand and maybe learn to pick up the signs earlier.
thats exactly what he got, a whole life `ll never hurt another child, and will do hard time in a population that knows his crimes.
life don't mean life now days does it, he could be out in 15 years
no he wont, a whole life term sentence means he`s there till he dies.A whole of life tarrif
Unfortunately, the statement above in bold is just not true. Below is a table cut and pasted from a UK govt website. As you can see, the majority of criminals given life sentences are released after only serving between 8 to 12 years.
TABLE 22: Time Between Date of Sentence and First Release for Mandatory Lifers
Time Number of Cases
0 - 2 yrs -
2.1 - 4 yrs 1
4.1 - 6 yrs 1
6.1 - 8 yrs 16
8.1 - 10 yrs 186
10.1 - 12 yrs 168
12.1 - 14 yrs 75
14.1 - 16 yrs 25
16.1 - 18 yrs 9
18.1 - 20 yrs 4
20.1 - 22 yrs 2
22.1 - 24 yrs 3
24.1 - 26 yrs -
26.1 - 28 yrs 1
TOTAL 491
Perhaps those that really "care" about these released criminals will offer them a bed in their home and a job??? I doubt it.

what punishment would you advocate for this guy??

1. Put him in a room, with bed, heating, light etc.
2. Feed him 3 times a day, make him work an 8 hour day 5 days a week (don't forget to include tea/lunch breaks).
3. Give him a free education in a marketable skill. After 8 years release him for "good behaviour".
him with a council flat.
him with a job.
If he then brutally rapes, buggers, and kills another innocent child repeat steps 1 to 5 as above.
Or,
1. Put him in a 6'x6'x6' room with no windows, no bed, and no light.
2. Do not give him food, water or heat.
3. 6 months later, open the door.
If he then brutally rapes, buggers, and kills another innocent child it'll be a bloody miracle and justice will have been done - the money saved can go towards the medical upkeep of any of his victims that survive.

any particular reason why not?
its the mind that makes a serial killer....not the internal organs (IMHO anyways)

but i would know where they come from...if i had something from say Ian Huntly...i would feel repulsed!
and if by some slim chance the government started harvesting the organs of such people...i think it would creat a bit of a delimma...people would start insisting on where the organs have come from.
Why should they not know where the organs have come from? If your child's life could be saved by using a spleen from a child-murderer, for example, would you rather your child died than have that organ?
because at the moment organ donation is annoymous...but if they were to start coming from sick minded individuals...people may refuse such operations...slowing up the process.
Well, yes and no - organ donations are not anonymous by law, but by choice. There are many cases where organs have been donated with all parties being aware of their origins. I don't see how people refusing organs from certain individuals would slow up the process - it's a simple question on a form "tick yes or no - would you accept an organ donated from a non-human?".
If they refuse, they die quicker or their child dies quicker. What choice would you make for your loved ones?
i know my choice as for my loved ones...i would let them make the choice...they are the ones that have to live with it...
You are lucky then that all your loved ones are old enough and mentally sound enough to make the choice. I would not bottle out of making tough decisions on behalf of others who couldn't make their own. I wouldn't be such a coward.
are you calling me a coward...who the fuck do you think you are saying that to me...i give my thoughts on this thread ands you fucking insult me!
I would not usually lower myself to responding a post that contains immature swearing, but I actually said "I would not bottle out of making tough decisions on behalf of others who couldn't make their own. I wouldn't be such a coward." I didn't accuse you of being a coward at all.
But if the cap fits..................
