My youngest normally cycles to school but she was running late yesterday so I offered to run her in. On the way, I had an unfortunate encounter with a bloke in a big black beamer who evidently decided there was no way an old Subaru was going to be in front of him and practically forced me off the road in his efforts to overtake me. I had to brake hard as he forced his way in and ended up diagonally across a cycle lane (thank god there wasn't a cyclist using it at the time).
So was it just a coincidence that he was in a BMW or are beamer drivers, in general, really a bunch of tits?

I look a prat in a hat - plus they squash my hair flat (sounds like a poem to me) and I need all the height I can get.
Did you mean centimetres?
Jaq talks a lot of sense. I think I've done untold metabolic damage to myself after decades of following expert 'advice' regarding dieting. I was diagnosed as now having metabolic syndrome (Syndrome X or insulin resistance) a few years ago ... this led to developing type 2 diabetes and means that I can't just adhere to the 'cal in cals out' mantra if I want to lose weight. My body doesn't metabolise carbs in the way it should - instead, much of the starchy carbs I eat are converted straight to fat around my mid section. So I could lay down fat quite nicely on a low calorie, carb heavy diet (such as slimming world's 'green days').
Instead, I have to eliminate all white, refined starchy carbs from my diet and keep the fat content low if I want to lose any weight. I'm doing this at the moment and have lost a mere 9lb in three weeks despite the strictness of this diet. Apparently, many people have this syndrome and aren't even aware of it. If you seem to gain weight easily, put it on primarily on your stomach and find it difficult to lose again, you may have metabolic syndrome.
We have a really lightweight cotton cover on the bed for sleeping ... the luxury bed throw thingy lies folded at the end and is only for show.
Pom lies under the cover with only his head peeking out, I usually have as little under cover as possible - and a fan on - and the windows open: I'm hot stuff!
Miss Kitty - sorry to hear about your loss. I lost my own dad only 3 weeks ago and haven't been able to cry properly yet ... still in shock I guess.
If you need s shoulder my PM box is always open to you xx
I'm a classic yo-yo dieter and have been to practically every class / club going and tried almost every diet under the sun.
In 2006 I lost 10st in 9 months using the Cambridge diet but regained 5st in 2007 when I experienced several devastating family tragedies (death of 2 young members of my family etc). For me personally, whether I lose it fast or slow is totally irrelevent as to whether I regain it or not - food is my pacifying drug of choice and until I crack that nut I'll carry on bouncing up and down the scales.
But to get back to your original question .... the club I had the most success with was Rosemary Conley because of it's no nonsense, faddy free healthy eating plan AND the exercise session which did wonders. I lost 6st in a year on that and if there was a club near me now I'd go back in a NY minute.
Unfortunately there isn't so I'm trying the 'cutting back' approach and incorporating more activity into my life (heh heh  ). I've lost 7lb in my first week although I know form past experience this will drop to a more sedate rate.
What works for one person won't work for another; it's a matter of digging around, trying a few things out and finding the 'key' that works for you. Good luck!
I agree with all of the above but what I especially like is the way that people in this little unconventional community genuinly care about each other. When one of the members is down or when something bad has happened, there is an immediate rush of support. I think that's wonderful.
I'd agree with the sentiments of this post. My lovely dad died just three weeks ago so this will be the first father's day I'll spend without him.
I'll be getting him a little solar star light and a helium balloon to put on his grave but I'd give anything to be able to give him a hug.
Sending special fathers day wishes to all the dads out there - you're wonderful, sometimes taken for granted, but very much loved.
