As for the sexist thing _ i believe in equality although i'm bloody sure that I'd make or take more issue about my daughter/mother/wife/friend walking home from somewhere late at night past pubs clubs through town centres than I would mt brother/father/mother/son/malefriend doing the same.

Losty, is there something you've been wanting to tell us?
F*ck me is there nothing missed :lol2:
Doesn't look like it's missing parts that's the issue confused

Having sex causes children, of that I'm pretty sure. smile
I actually agreed with that point earlier- when a label is made, it's often misappropriated. Some people will bandy it about as an excuse- it's inevitable.
I fully agree with you that most naughty kids are a product of nurture rather than nature. Be that nurturing poor parenting, or the influence of wider society.
However, my point with the dyslexia goes to show that just because something is "new" it shouldn't automatically be dismissed, should it?
Just because a label may be handed out inappropriately, does it really mean that the condition doesn't exist?
I can see what you're saying Kenty- quite clearly. Just as any non dyslexic can. Dyslexia, you know it, it's that now widley recognised and accepted condition. The one that if you had it as little at 20, 30 years ago- you'd have been labelled as thick.
I'm a little at sixes & sevens with the whole issue.
I'm a woman.
I'm capable of looking after myself physically.
I'm not easily intimidated- if I want to walk down that street at 1am, I bloody well will.
However, I still appreciate gentlemen. I can see that men in the age group I mostly spend time with were bought up to treat a woman as something to be protected- and whilst I don't need that protection, I know that it's something they offer for the right reasons, not out of wanting to patronise.
EG, I joined the ship I was crewing at a town local to me. The day in question was my birthday, so I'd arranged to go home for the night. I went with other-significant-other for a drink in town after we'd docked. After a while, we were joined by some more deckies. Time came for me to make a move. It was , in a town that held no threat for me at all and that I knew much better than he did. We'd just been joined by his mates. Naturally, I was about to take the 10minute walk back to the ship for my kit by myself. He insisted he walked me back. I said "You really know you don't have to do this" to which he replied "I wouldn't be me if I didn't"- and I responded that "I wouldn't be me if I didn't tell you you didn't need to."
He was bought up to be a gentleman- it's in his nature to protect.
Usually, if theres anything really heavy to be lifted at home, it's done by me & the OH. When the OSO is here, I'll let them get on with it. They're both bigger & stronger than me, and better equipped- so why would I struggle my ass off to make a point?
Back on tangent... lol
I got stuck in a lift once in Germany with the OH, three small kids, and lots of tourists. There was no sense of order to who got out first. I've always been petrified of being stuck in lifts, and given this when the OH got me & the kids to the front of the "queue" I gratefully accepted. The kids needed to be got out, and in that situation so did I. It wasn't a woman thing, it was a freaks-out-in-lifts thing.
However, if we were in a situation where we were in peril on the water, and just for example there was only one lifejacket left between me and the OH- I would bloody insist he took it. While he can swim, he panicks in the water if he's out of his depth. I'm much better in the water than he is- he might protest but he would bloody well take the jacket.
Somewhere in there, you may find my point. Happy hunting. rolleyes
From what I can see, there are a few different issues going on here.
1) Does ODD exist? IMO, possibly- look past the headlines. It doesn't just mean kids opposing discipline. It works the other way too. I've seen an inteligent teenager give up on something they loved- just because one of their parents was happy with them doing it.
2) Will people use it as an excuse? Absolutely. I believe ADHD exists- but the label is slapped on all too often for the sake of convenience.
3) Have the papers exaggerated/ scandalised a situation? No idea. I've not read it.
4) Has Kenty done what Kenty does best? Jumped to a conclusion/ onto a bandwagon? Rhetorical.
5) Feral. It's Feral. Not Ferel. And while were at it, your other favourite word is spelt "article."
My other significant other watches some tripe TV rolleyes. When he was here last, I semi-endured the remake of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. It was dire. However, it's crappyness provided us with enough of a distraction to ensure we didn't overstep our mutually agreed "watershed" boundary. redface
Much.
Succinct & well put Nelly.
And while I'm here, should the powers that be be reading this...ID card? Not on your life- you can omprison me before you'll tell me what I must carry with me at all times.
Aside from anything else, I ain't carrying a handbag for nobody. rolleyes

Self-deprecation, humour, focusing on other aspects of my personality that I feel show me in a better light.

Pretty much same for me, but generally being a smart arse is my way of hiding my lack of confidence around people I am not comfortable with, unless it is at work, where knowledge and experience means I don't have any confidence issues.
I await the humour eagerly. wink
