I think it should be taught in some depth but age appropriately. Tell a kid millions of jews, gypsies, Russians, disabled died it can be just a number to them. Genocide and ethnic cleansing isn't just a thing of history books, it still happens take Rwanda and Bosnia in recent years for example and sadly it will probably happen again somewhere, maybe not on the holocaust scale but it can still happen.
Yes I agree too..although it seems impossible to believe that one human can behave in that way to another it's still happening as you point out. Our cultured, 'civilised' lives somehow breed complacency...but it is supposed intelligent, sophisticated people in power or the power to change things that let things like this happen. Don't want to get party political or sectarian on this one, as the left can be as bad as the right, Christians as bad as Catholics, Muslims as bad as Jews..but Farenheit 911 is on tonight..just illustrates and proves the saying 'power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely'
I think 'we' all have it in us to behave abhorrently, how abhorrent I guess depends ultimately on the likelihood of getting away with it, self control and the containment of our own demons...hope that's not too much of an indictment on the Human Race
