I mistakenly posted this in the wrong thread so bringing it over here.....
Terrorist depends on which side you're looking at it from.
I can remember a time Mandela was labelled a terrorist....today he's the ultimate freedom fighter.

Quote by 3someinpreston
Mandela never blew up a bus tho did he?
blatant terrorists!

Maybe not a bus, but remember these words?....
“With our matches and our necklaces we will liberate this country” Spoken in true Winnie Mandela style.
Remember what the necklace was that she was referring to is?
A car tyre round someone’s neck, filled with petrol and set alight.
Like I said, depends which side you’re looking in from.
Unfortunately there’s no such thing as a clean fair fight, not matter what side you’re standing on.
..as you point out, the necklace quote is not attributable to Nelson Mandela..it was spoken by Winnie, his ex wife who had her own agenda and was soon ostracised by Mandela and his polictical organisations. Although it is difficult to justify any kind of terrorism which has a murderous objective..I think it is useful to remember the post war political situation in South Africa and the lack of democracy & opportunities that existed for its indigenous population.

Can you list all the attrocities carried out in the name of Christianity?

They are well documented and you're obviously aware of them. Do you imagine that I condone them?
..forgive me for attempting to interpret the meaning of the reference to Christianity, but I guess the point being made was that their are many Biblical references to which Christians do not adhere to...the overwhelming majority of Muslims are peace loving, law abiding people...if they all slavishly followed this doctrine as you quote and you suggest they do, then these atrocities would be much more prolific. I am not a student of the Koran, but know ing a little bit of the Bible..I guess it's easy to extract passages and use them to convey any message you want to...

go at ice pie, would never presume i was everyones topic of right its very
sad that someonelse is going through what i'm going through and whoever it is i wish them happiness and a speedy recovery.
As you said you have had your say on this matter, and as i remember you had a lot to say it would be nice of you to let others gain whatever small bit of healing they can from opening up their hearts, as you must of done, instead of presuming that we're all doing it for the attention as some obviously have done.
candyfloss xxxx

Candyfloss you've totally misunderstood me hun, I was by no means having a go at you nor anyone else who's going through this kind of thing.... I've been there remember? I know how painful it is. I simply wanted to make a point that as so many of us thought it may be us that Ice was referring to, he was obviously correct in his original post.
I apologise if you felt that I was having a go at you, but the only part of my post aimed at you was the first sentence. The rest of it was purely my meandering thoughts on the subject and I wholly understand anyone's need to let off steam when they've been hurt. As you so rightly say, I did exactly the same when I was in that position, and it helped enormously.
I sincerely hope this clarifies my last post

One of the first things I said to him was that honesty was everything to me,and that if he ever changed his mind, or found he'd made a mistake, then though i'd be hurt, I made him promise that he'd tell me,and not let me make a fool of myself.
Unfortunately, he couldnt be honest, and he cheated, so now not only am i left with a broken heart but the betrayal to.
Honesty, guys and gals, the only thing you need, remember that.
candyfloss xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

..sorry to read about this unhappy time in your life Candy. Most of us want honesty from our partners, but in reality we lie not because we want to hurt anyone, but because of opposite reasons. I always felt it was easier to be honest with people I had little time for, because I had little concern for the consequences of such honesty (that's me being brutally honest btw!). Most of us think that we can get away with the actions that pre empt telling a lie..so whoever might be affected by those actions isn't hurt, as they don't have the knowledge. I'm not making excuses for your ex, but you say that he isn't a bad man...so I guess he felt in his own, misguided way he was trying to protect you from his wrongdoing.
Hope you're well on the road to recovery Candy and good luck for the future biggrin

My advice to anyone who finds that a relationship at whatever level may be ‘progressing’ is to tell the other person how you feel and what you want, and ask them for the same information. Don’t beat about the bush, don’t assume, don’t hope, don’t guess, and above all don’t expect anything you haven’t been promised and don’t promise anything you’re not prepared to give.
Ice

..interesting topic Ice, your last paragraph is of course well sage advice and the starting point for Swinging Utopia...whatever that might be..I too have read numerous posts by members referring to the written & unwritten 'rules' of being part of this alternative lifestyle community..of course in the saying..they're easily conformed to, but the actualite may be completely different.
I have (sadly) seen both sides of this coin having become deeply attracted to the fem of a couple who I felt was discreetly wanting to get closer to me, calling me at night when her hubby wasn't there, sharing her feelings about other aspects of her life etc...I was tempted & foolishly reciprocated these 'deeper' feelings only to be rebuffed and told that this was all part of the game she played mutually with her hubby, which enhanced their relationship..sort of a pleasure & pain scenario for them, that made their shagging more rewarding..needless to say I felt foolish, like a naughty puppy with its tail between its legs!
On the other hand a single girl I'd been having a very fulfilling nsa relationship with (at her instigation), become quite clingy and submissive..contrary to the person she was in her 'real' life..and in such situations where you're both available (I was at that time), it is even harder to extricate yourself or for there to be a positive outcome for both parties.
I guess with swinging, the rules can only be vague guidelines..nothing can be cast in stone..and even if you make promises to your life partner, these can easily be broken with the right (wrong) motivation..it's a high risk game that we all play and we have to acknowledge that, before we make assumptions about how strong or otherwise our life partner relationships are...I guess that's why adultery/fornication is made such a big deal of in The Bible!!

I agree in principle that they all should be treated equally, however it doesn't always work that easily. You have to be careful the stepkids don't resent you for trying to take over the father role when they perhaps already have one and if you treat your kids differently they will resent this and then you will have trouble on your hands!
Personally I would talk to their mother and ask her to try and discipline her own children for the more serious problems - at least until you get to know them a lot better and are settled into more of a family routine.
Good luck.
xx

..thanks for that Ms Amber...me & their mom have different views about bringing kids up..so there could be probs there. They also have a fantastic relationship with their own Dad who they see every w/e..so I don't want to try and start competing with him...I've had swinging relationships that have been easier to manage lol!!
Quote by naughtynymphos1
If you are living with someone and their kids and u are taking on the roll of their father, in that i mean working and living together as one family, not trying to take over as their dad, then u treat them as you treat your own, if you are living with/working for and providing 4 them as a family then u treat them as a family, thats my opinion anyway lol

...and I agree with your opinion NN..just hope the kids see it that way too smile

Mmmmmmmm, tricky - Talk to GF and see how far she expects you to go with disciplining her children. I have 2 (all grown up now), but at the time it was hard biting my lip. Luckily their Dad jumped in before I could say anything!!!
Mind you stepdaughter has got her own back and is expecting her first baby in early July and just loves to tell me that I am going to be a Grannie at 40!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Good Luck

Not really a tip, I do have 2 step kids that come to our house every week and if they aren't being good then I tell them off as I do my own. They are part of my responsilbilty when they are in our home, so I treat them the same as my 2. Be cause Iain has total confidence in the way I treat our 2, he has no problem with me treating his 2 the way I do, which is the same.

..thanks Red, I go along with what your comments about when they're are in your worries me is that on holiday it's neutral territory and boundaries are a bit more blurred. What Im scared of doing is to be seen to be treating mine harshly, whereas I want to treat them all the same!!
..would welcome some feedback from members with step-binlidz!...I've been living with my g/f for the past few months and get on ok with her kids...we are due to go abroad on hols with all of hers and all of mine...whilst this should be a nice prospect, I know at least 2 of the factions will be at war with each other within a day. I know I can deal with mine (boot & backside spring to mind!), but obviously have some worries about bawling out hers!
So the question is...Does anyone have any grown up tips for dealing with other folks (teenage) kids?? :jagsatwork:

Quote by MikeNorth
"Pikey" is certainly an insulting term, but it's doubtful whether it can be classed as directly racist. There's a good entry on the word in Wikipedia:
Pikey is a pejorative slang term used in the United Kingdom. The term standardly refers to Irish Travellers as was originally a contraction of the word "turnpike", but in recent years the definition has become looser and it is sometimes used to refer to a wide section of the (generally urban) underclass of the country, particularly those on whom the lower middle classes look down. When used to refer to Gypsies it often considered to have racist connotations; even when it refers to others, many people consider it racist because it is a racial epithet used as a derogatory term. However, many would insist it refers mainly to the traveller way of living, rather than any ethnic group.

..thanks Mike, never heard it before tonight redface

Good for you for phoning RSPCA, we had an argument with another lad at work the other day. He said he was going to Spain with his family and wanted to take his 14 year old son to see a Bullfight. He was mighty surprised when half a dozen rough old Engineers howled him down and called him all the names under the sun.
He could not see why it was wrong to kill a Bull in that way!! Hope we convinced him!!!

its really bothered me that has. what goes through a pikeys mind i will never comprehend. they have the morals of a parasite they really make me sick.
i once had a jack russel and use to take her for a walk which went past a legal campsite and there was a real romany gipsy brother and sister that lived on the site and we would always bump into each other and stop to have a chat.
they were the most friendly genuine people ive met. and even they said they were so ashamed of the way pikeys behave and have brought the gypsy way of life into the gutter.
i really hope that cockrel will be ok.

So what's wrong with Manchester? If its wet or cold outside makes for more enjoyment of indoor sports which we all enjoy. At least it doesn't go dark at lunchtime anymore due to smoke and fog as it did when I was a student there. And in those days that made the girls think of indoor sports too - they were all at it!! You just had to get to know them first.

Wake up man, your living in a real world. No offense to people of a certain ethnic background, but its all double standards. Dont you question white men being sued and sent to jail for however long for being racist? Calling people niggers and such? Yet you walk down a street and see that its ok to call another black person a if you are also black. Again, deal with it, its life. And actually i don't think you would be called racist saying WHITE WOMEN ONLY, that isn't a racist remark.

..disagree with you here Mike, I don't refer to other black people as niggers. To be honest I think this is more to do with familiarity, you can get away with speaking to your friends and family in a certain way, but if a stranger were to do the same it would be offensive..so it follows...if a total (black) stranger were to greet me in the street by calling me ' ' he would get a punch on the nose..nothing to do with double standards.
My mate who is coloured has just been fined for a public disorder offence for calling another coloured guy.
...and rightly so if the other bloke took offence to it, imho
