When it comes to manufacturing I think for the most part we cannot compete in a global market.
I watched a friends documentary about shipping containers and the impact they had in the global market. It's apparently now cheaper to ship something from the far east than it is to move the same container 100 miles in this country.
The only way to make us even remotely competitive is by heavy government subsidisation, which means squeezing the peasants (ie us) until we're dry which isn't exactly a vote winner. confused
It's a brave new world and I'm not sure quite how certain parts of British society fit into that world any more. dunno
Hi, I'll move this over to club meets as the folks in here should be able to help you.

I did intend to openly reply to this thread and the comments made, but as I've been carefully drafting my post I've watched it again descend into members turning on each other and another mod bullying session, so I will now draw it to a close.

Harajuku Lovers black patent leather shoes.

They are very fabulous :swoon: As is your case smile
I have a pair of Jimmy Choos that I will never wear due to what they are worth but I love them all the same :) I do have quite a good shoe collection (luckily my parents store most of them for me) but one of my favourite things I have here is my Manolo Blahnik shoe horn, it's more of an ornament and gets funny looks at times but I love it. :)
Is that the funny-looking thing on the bedroom window-sill that I placed on a 10 day eBay auction last week after I removed the inch of dust from it?

Scary read! Makes you think.
I was in a shop recently where the cashier asked the guy in front of me for his name and address as he had bought a tv top set (something like that). I would have refused, without question he gave the information requested that the cashier wrote on a writing pad that she shoved behind the till afterwards. So much for data protection confused :? :? ...........

It's a legal requirement under the Wireless Telegraphy Act 1967. ;)
I too would like to know how current legislation was founded..... confused

Of course this is only correct at this moment. If any one of the things above increases my stress levels it can quickly fall out of favour. :haha:
I'm confused so can someone else please clarify a couple of things I hold to be true:
1) History does actually extend further than the 60's?
2) The unions grew out of the exploitation of workers in mills etc and in part, were responsible for founding the labour laws that have already been mentioned?
For the people who made a stand against exploitation and who suffered poverty and extreme hardships to bring about some kind of fairness and safety to the workplace, I thank them.

.......Ive been watching the comedy satire series 'Absolute Power' on tv.
What a Master class in satire tuition............

As an aside, try the radio broadcasts of 'Absolute Power' instead written by Mark Tavener. It knocks the TV show into a cocked hat. ;)
If I had my way there would be land mines hidden in every professional clubs football pitch across the land. If they want the overinflated wages they're paid then they should at least take some of the risks other people have to.

I don't know you well enough to have any strong feeling either way about you Mr. K.

This area is for reasonable, rational debate (serious discussion of a subject in which many people take part) and not for anything that resembles bullying, aggression, abuse or haranguing (to speak to someone or a group of people, often for a long time, in a forceful and sometimes angry way, especially to persuade them.).
Just to clarify.......
Debate = .................. Bullying, abuse etc = :kick:
While using this forum please remember that it is governed by the site's Acceptable Use Policy that you agreed to as per the sites Terms & Conditions.
Everyone should feel comfortable using this forum, so this post has been made to try and minimise disagreements and abuse and to promote some tolerance towards others. Please remember that (at the moment anyway :lol2: ) we're all allowed freedom of thought and that it is ok for other to have ideas that we don't agree with. They have probably taken many years to develop those ideas after life-experience etc, so please do not become frustrated if your beautifully worded and handsomely crafted paragraph of text doesn't make them have an instant epiphany. ;)
With this in mind, here are a few tips to help you try to resolve conflicts, hopefully without the need for moderators to step in and start taking action.
Tips for Resolving Conflict Online
What can be done to prevent unnecessary conflict in cyberspace? The following are tips for handling conflict online with respect, sensitivity, and care:
Don't respond right away
Read the post again later
Choose whether or not you want to respond
Clarify what was meant
Think about what you want to accomplish by your communication
Choose your words carefully and thoughtfully, particularly when you're upset
Place yourself in the other person's shoes
Use emoticons to express your tone
Assume that people mean well, unless they have a history or pattern of aggression
Everyone has their bad days, gets triggered, reacts insensitively, and writes a post without thinking it through completely. It doesn't mean that they don't have good intentions.
On the other hand, some people pick fights no matter how kind and patient you are with them. They distort what you say, quote you out of context, and make all sorts of accusations all to vilify and antagonize you. Don't take the "bait" by engaging in a struggle with them - they'll never stop. Sometimes, the best strategy is to have nothing more to do with someone.

A more detailed version of the above is available here:
If you're still having problems resolving an issue then you can make the site moderators aware of your concerns by visiting the offenders profile and clicking the 'Report Profile' link at the bottom of their profile page.
Please give some details in the text box of the problem and where its happened before clicking the 'Report' button.
Finally, a quick quote:
"Those who establish their argument by noise and command shows that their reason is weak"
- Michel de Montaigne
Thank you for reading. biggrin
Workmate was telling me that they met a bloke at uni and did the whole dating thing, but when they got back to his place he was wearing bright purple Y-fronts with yellow piping and all she could do was piss herself laughing and every time he tried to get things serious, she kept seeing these purple pants and laughing harder
She said they made a mutual agreement not to date again after that. :lol2:

.................Wake up and open your eyes as to what is happening to our country before it is too late.

Very true. It's not about race, creed, colour, religion etc. IMHO they're a smoke screen. It's about money and more importantly, power.
It's a big machine and we're all very small cogs and until a large number of the cogs wake up from their hum-drum and cosseted lives and start to revolt then it will always stay the same.
Marx said that religion was the opiate of the masses, which was partly right. Religion provided direction and entertainment at that time, but time moves on and religion has been replaced with 'lifestyle' and 'media'. So while we're happily lapping up whatever 'lifestyle' and 'media' we choose we're actually being good little drones and not rocking the boat or asking awkward questions. ;)
So to answer the OP's original question: I'll be voting for whoever I feel like on the day. It really makes no odds which shade of grey I choose. The country is run by civil servants and not those we elect. They're the constants within government and it's they who wield true power.

Kentswingers777: This is not the first time today that I have read some of your posts and felt that there may need to be some intervention, it just happens to be this thread that I've decided to comment on.
While everyone is entitled to their own opinion and has the ability to express it (within reason), with your posts I feel that you go beyond that and into the of a and by doing so your posts become (intended or likely to cause anger or hate).
This is considered to be a form of and harassment is against the sites AUP and T&C.
For a man who has previously commented that he feels as though there may be a permanent ban imminent, this seems like very a very fool-hardy way to conduct yourself and I would advise you to bear this in mind when constructing your posts in any area of the site from now on.
Awayman: Ben_welshminx: Please refrain from making personal comments about other members. Debate your points and not members conduct.

I'm very comfortable being on my own. I lived on my own for a few years and even now spend quite a bit of my time on my own. I'm very comfortable with it and like having time on my own to do my own thing. I actually don't think I could have a relationship with someone who wanted to be with me all the time with no time to myself.

Cool. I'll take the bed tonight and you can take the car. :P
Just think ..... no nagging for cwtch. No more snoring. No more bed-farts. No more fidgeting.......... I'm gonna get a great night sleep tonight. :smug: rotflmao
Oh and alone ...... really????
The topic up for discussion is surrounding the law, not the colour of peoples skin or your particular socio-political view Rob.
The law, in my opinion, is perfectly adequate. Any shift could result in vigilante-type behaviour increasing as there would be a get-out-of-jail card for those wishing to administer punishment beatings to anyone breaking into their house.
While I agree that the burglar should not be in someone's home in the first place, two wrongs never make a right.

The only reason peace came about was because Sinn Feine realised that the bomb was never going to move the British Governments stance on Ireland.
Gerry Adams a terrorist himself knew that the bullet was never going to win his war in Ireland.
............

The history and social interactions are complicated, but no more so than any other area of the world.
As for Sinn Fein realising that the bomb wouldn't move the British government ..... I'm pretty certain that history records John Major approaching Gerry Adams in his first few days of becoming the successor to Margaret Thatcher as Conservative Prime minister, in order to open a dialogue.
Mr Adams agreement to participate may have been based on an understanding that global support for his cause may be waning. Or that guerilla action doesn't always result in a meeting with a leader of one of the major world players every day, so perhaps saw an opportunity to broker a deal, or to gain political points later down the line. Either way, Mr. Majors approach was obviously too good for Mr. Adams to pass up.
As an aside, Mr. Major stated to the House of Commons in November 1993 that "...to sit down and talk with Mr. Adams and the Provisional IRA... would turn my stomach" whilst having repeated meeting with Mr Adams and his party. So while appearing to support the previous leaders tough stance on terrorism, he was in fact pressing on with his own agenda, which goes some way to dispel the myth that Mr. Major was a 'puppet' of the previous regime.
But we digress.
Given that the original topic started off about Australia and the comments made about the indigenous population, I can't help wondering if elements of the Aborigines will begin some form of campaign similar to the Irish movement in the future.

If you roll down the screen slightly and look to the left you'll see a 'contact us' link under the heading 'Information'.
Select the 'Press and Media' link and that will take you directly to a support ticket, which is the way to contact admin/the site owners.
The first part of the page is almost blank because of how the little box in the right hand conmer - so all you see initially is the 'mood' of the person when the made the profile. What possible use is that. Why is that top priority?

There are other new features coming in the not-too-distant future that we're told will fill this space, so rather than create 2 new profile layouts it was felt prudent to allow for them in this build.
HTH.
As there's a thread in The Cafe on this topic I'm going to lock this one now.

While the debate appears to have returned to the discussion in hand I just wanted to offer some guidance.
To everyone, but particularly those of you quoted above, please keep your personal opinions about others actions to yourselves and do not engage in name-calling and one-upmanship.
You're all old enough and bright enough to debate your points in a reasonable and rational way, so there should be no need for you to lower yourselves to blowing cyber-raspberrys at each other.
Thanks.

Just an observation folks.
While most of this is on track, we seem to be moving away from debate (serious discussion of a subject in which many people take part) and towards haranguing (to speak to someone or a group of people, often for a long time, in a forceful and sometimes angry way, especially to persuade them.).
Just to clarify.......
Debate = :thumbup: .................. Harangue =

Instead step away from the keyboard and hug the nearest wife/husband (usually your own, but hey, I'm liberal :lol2: ), cat/dog (JUST hug that one ... ok?), or anything else that helps to calm your mood or relieves tension (just remember what I said about cats/dogs applies any household pets .... except goldfish! Don't hug the goldfish!).
Thanks and happy debating!. biggrin
