Damn. And there was me trying to be all unpredictable keeping everyone guessing too Trev. Oh well! lol
MrLeedz, if you're expecting your profile to be enough to hook people in you're gonna be disappointed most likely, it doesn't work like that for single guys. Not unless they're in possession of physical attributes impressively out of the norm enough to turn some people's heads all by themselves. Just had a look at your profile, seems that is not the case sadly there, the best that could be said is really quite average, what you'd expect to find on just about every other single guy's profile out there. No offence mate, strictly average in all departments here myself! Just giving you the benefit of a bi guy's thoughts on the subject here, OK? ;)
Funfree, your profile's fine. There's a lot of spelling and grammar mistakes, just sloppy wording generally that could do with a spell check and a bit of tidying up and some better pics would be good, as you've realised. In the end though your profile is not gonna be enough all by itself. It's there as background for when someone comes across you on the forums or in chat if they like what they see enough to look further into things but you need to be proactive here, be involved on the forums or in chat to make that a possibility really. Odds are just too stacked against you so you have to do what you can to stand out from the rest. Keep plugging away, get yourself established as a bit of a regular face with a bit of a regular crowd, see what happens. That's what is gonna get you invites to socials and club meets near you, people you meet at them IRL is what will really open doors for you. Don't do any of that you may as well have spent your joining fee on beer down the pub mate, you'd have more of a chance of a shag. ;)
Good luck!
Mike, I barely noticed you weren't around? Don't mean that like you wouldn't be missed, don't get me wrong. ;) Just with minute by minute commentary on whether Man U have scored or not twice a week in me bloody Facebook feed you're a constant. Have been for years mate.
Still, welcome back and all that. Nice of you to bob in. :P
Robbi, the Godlike thing and post-counting from those whose constant spamming with posts that seemed sometimes to be directed at attaining it more than they were about making any actual contribution to the site was something discussed over and over again all the way back even when Mark was still site owner. In fact the status under your avatar was removed following a discussion on that very issue, it was available as a pop-up-on-hover-over type thing for those interested enough to look for it for a good while after. Removal of the post-count too was discussed more than once. I think the general consensus was post counts, along with forum join date can be useful for new members. It gave an idea of who was most active on the forum side when the site was effectively split across three very different and seperate kinds of server, forum, IRC chat, and ads. You needed to make an account for all three if you wanted to use them all, independently of eachother. It gave new members an idea of who might be the more genuine and long-term members when the ads and the chatroom to some extent had a relatively high volume of very transient traffic.
People shouldn't feel intimidated by something as stupid as an arbitrary forum rank awarded only for being a gobshite. I accept that some might be, but that would seem daft to me. Equally noone should ever be deluded enough to imagine that just because you have Godlike under your av that in fact confers any special status at all. Ego inflation is a dangerous thing, isn't it? Trust me, I wasn't absolutely immune to it myself. rolleyes Perhaps Gobshite / Talks Complete Bollox Endlessly would have countered any tendencies in that direction better but we're talking a time when the site in terms of its core, day in, day out membership was counted in the low hundreds and could be fit comfortably in a decent sized boozer on a night out. The idea anyone could or would ever be here long enough or put enough sustained effort into over time to hit the almost too big to imagine, must certainly be absolutely impossible to achieve 1000 posts.
Anyways, it's not post-counts, forum ranks, join dates or whatever that makes a forum intimidating or not. It's tone. We just weren't very good at getting n00bs onboard sometimes despite the best efforts of many. We're still not. That's even more of a problem when there's so much less of anything to engage anyone new to the forums with, with the best will in the world it's a losing battle now, the damage is long done.
Absolutely northwest-cpl, the malaise for me goes back to take-over and the loss of a lot of what had been the core forum regs but that's a very long time ago, most posters on here wouldn't even remember how it was, they joined later so it's not the whole story. Probably is for us though.
Something I've always railed against is the perry bitching and the tendency to jump all over other posters, especially n00bs. It was always so obviously detrimental to the long term success of the site, no matter how big the ego's pay-off in fleetingly being right on the internets over something inconsequential showing someone else to be a bit of a dick on this or that maybe hadn't through things through in the grand scheme of things went. That was always a problem as I remember it but as a free site where you could bugger off and reinvent yourself with a new identity at will if you'd been a bit of a twat and rightly shown the error of your ways it just doesn't happen with a paid-for site. And let's face it, new paying members ain't signing up for the prospect of some sparkling wit and repartee on the forums are they, they just wanna get laid quick as possible and as many times as possible before their membership runs out? Why bother putting the time and energy so many used to put into it just keep themselves, and hopefully others entertained with complete fucking bollox. Even I've forgotten how to do that any more, I wish I had the creative juices left in me. sad Copious quantities of Stella had a lot to do with the creative juices, obviously, as everyone well knew, I made no secret of the technique. lol

I have to be honest and say that I have never known a forum especially a so called adult forum, where the banning of a thread or a warning of a banning of a thread is so easily used. I have said to admin I would not start a thread anymore as there are some here on occasions, hell bent on getting it locked, and I cannot really be arsed with that kind of crap.
I personally am tired of saying anything controversial and then getting slapped down by a moderator on here, and yes I know they have a job to do on here, but feel that on many occasions it seems we are the children being given a slap on the wrist.

Rubbish. Star, it's not what you say half the time ( as in the topic ), it's how you say it. You can't help yourself at times. Controversial topics are fine, we've always had them but you have to deal with them using appropriate language, and be able to take others' disagreement on the chin, not as a personal affront. Sometimes you and others members seem to have a difficulty there. That's what gets slapped down, in my view rightly, and there is less of it than you suggest. A lot less.
Please note, in no way did I just single you out there, OK?
Quote by Flower
Neil mentioned people who "got" each other and there were times when you could post something totally surreal and have an even more surreal response within minutes but all of those people got banned.

All? You sure? I don't think so, not by a long stretch is this even remotely true Flower. I'm not sure who you might have in mind here but I think very few people have actually been banned IIRC, fewer than could account for the change on the forum?
Quote by Flower
Once you have the idea in your head that some moderators are poor fragile souls with little understanding of reality and no sense of humour and that they will make it a mission to ban people they don`t like, it`s tricky to shift it.

Disagree here too. You remember Blue and Jags I take it? In no sense were these humourless people but I think you'd struggle to find more stringent moderation than we got from them. Neither suffered fools gladly. They were here when the site was at its most active, didn't seem to cause the issue you're hinting at back then, at all? If anything the moderation is really quite loose on here, CA was left pretty much to go its own way until things got really out of hand and the personal abuse kicked off with complaints being made.
Quote by Flower
There is also the issue with consistantly abusive people who do everything they possibly can to cause fights and then threaten to have people banned when they answer back.

This may be true. ;)
Anyways, I don't think moderation is the issue. Don't think the thread needs to go to far down that road, it may begin to look as though there are axes being ground. The forum's deathly quiet is for the reasons I outlined in my original post I think, not these.
You're not alone TooHot. It's not just looking at how things used to be through the rose-tinted specs of nostalgia, the forum is dying on its arse, has been for some time IMO. It's a vicious circle isn't it: we all need some thing or some one to bounce off most often. Others post less so we have less to bounce off, that means others in their turn have less to bounce off themselves. Back in the old days there was a core membership who got each other and you knew you could leave lines dangling that others would pick up and chuck back and so on. There was humour aplenty that's been sorely lacking in such abundance for a while, those days are long gone.
I've racked up nearly 2000 posts in 12 months on another forum I'm on, 600 odd since August on another. My posting boots are in fine fettle, trust me. Here I think it's partly boredom for old guard regs like ourselves, we've been here too long and seen it all before, partly that for a very long time the forums were less than welcoming of n00bs so we got fewer new members posting to replace those who fell by the wayside, partly that the cam chatrooms provide more in the way of instant gratification for many, and partly that the forums have been consistently buggered about with ever since The Cafe was first split into two ( or more? ) forums. I don't see a way back unfortunately. Sad. sad
Out now at your nearest multiplex, the moving story of one man's love for his horse ( burger ).

"Michael Morpurgo's beloved novel has inspired an extraordinary production." ~ Allan Hunter, Daily Express
None in central Leeds yet though the temperature's dropped right off now the CH has knocked off, it's cold enough and has been a little wet.
Hahahaha! Sounds like a win to me! It's true though isn't it. Guys who plaster their profile with cock-shots thinking that'll do the trick but neglect to attend to basic grooming and personal hygiene before chucking their flaccid members out into cyberspace for all to see. It's not a good look is it, seriously, could at least try and make it look remotely presentable? They've not thought it through! lol
Ha! B'dum tish! Proud, upstanding members of the community too one would hope Miserly.
Would I appreciate the finer points of the number of cocks that would be visible? Would I feel proud or ashamed of my organ?

Oh yes, I'm sure you would come to appreciate the subtle distinctions between a nice, pretty cock and those that look like leftover giblets in the Bernard Matthews packing plant. Whether you'd feel proud of your own organ I guess depends whereabouts on that particular spectrum you find yourself, but let's put it this way: after spending more hours than I care to admit trawling for nice looking cocks to play with locally any hang ups I once had about my own very average specimen are looooooooong gone. lol ;)
Bloody 'ell Will now look what you done. You've resurfaced, got Northwest-cpl posting in another thread elsewhere and now this old bugger's turned up too just when everyone was thinking he might really have ridden off into the sunset at last aaaaaages ago.
'ello Westy my old friend. biggrin Lovely to see you about the place. Been too long. Small hijack in progress, sure Will won't mind, should know to expect that by now really . . . So, how've you been?

I've never done a welcome to the forum post before but that just has to be "welcome to the forum".

Fuck me, it must have been good if it's half brought you out of retirement? Even better played Wyddfa, nice work there fella! Do carry on, won't you? smile
What they said! Wyddfa, with political leanings like that I'm sure you'll find LOTS to get yer teeth into on here. ;) Welcome to the forums.

just installed windows 8....ahem...
got windows 7 running on 4 others comps on the network...everything is fine except the one that feeds the meddia and internets to the telly....can see the network but refuses to acknowledge its existence...

Windows 8 is a step too far for me. Only just getting used to 7 properly. You turned the Windows Firewall off on the PC you want to stream to the telly? I had no end of problems setting up Media Centre with an Xbox 360, PC could see the Xbox on the network fine but comms was only one way cos of the firewall, Xbox Media Centre couldn't see the PC hard drive.
End of the day Will how do you define yourself? Sod what anyone else thinks, it's whatever terms you feel most comfortable using that you feel most accurately describe you and your situation. Please yourself first and foremost, you need explain nothing to anyone. Course you'll want to explain to some extent so again, be only as upfront on your public profile as you and Sappho feel most comfortable with. You can explain still further in private if anyone asks you to or you feel a need to.
Retaining your couple profile with an explanation of the situation in the text with some reciprocity with Sappho's profile as Steve suggested perhaps is enough. There'll only be room for confusion among those who don't actually bother to read the profile text before contacting you, and why worry about them? You'll have done enough for your part at least.
Good to see you back BTW Will. You're always missed. Sappho too. Happy New Year to you both.
Good to see you back Will. The forum's been a little dry of late so about time someone got a round in. Right tight-arsers on here lately so they are. I'd have got one in meself, obviously, but I'm absolutely bleedin' skint mate and it's three'n'alf weeks to payday yet. I'll have a whisky sour please, hold the whisky.
Cubes, animated GIFs for avatars haven't worked for a while for me. Haven't been able to do it for aaaaaages on mine. I dunno how Will's can be even working? confused
I saw this on Facebook a little while back Will. Thought it was very funny. Even funnier was the occasional comment from an outraged American who seemed to feel the need to remonstrate with it and reassure everyone that this bit or that couldn't actually happen under the constitution and for why just in case anyone took it seriously. Dunno what it says that they thought anyone might like, I have to assume they were trolling but you can just never tell sometimes if they're being ironic or not? confused dunno lol
I dread to think what your garage looks like Stevie. Kitchen too for that matter. ;)
I was very productive the other day, cleaned top to bottom. Been far too lax of late and the dust devils were beginning to piss me off but couldn't have had a visitor a few days back see the state of it so went bloody mad. It wasn't that bad really but only a small back-to-back that soon looks untidy, but then only half a day tops to do every room, window, surface and floor and looks a damn sight better for it. Can actually relax without being constantly annoyed by the mess.
Now we're onto tidying up a new install of Windows 7, AGAIN! rolleyes Suddenly developed a weird issue after an update where after a bit you can't close windows or click icons and stuff though everything's still running. Ctrl-Alt-Del and cancelling out fixes everything for a bit then it all locks again. Third time building from scratch trying to find what's causing it but cannot for the life of me fix the thing. Will get it this time if it kills me. Raaaaaaargh! mad

Same to you Trev, and a prosperous, peaceful and happy new year to everyone else. Hope 2013 brings all you'd wish for and more. smile

when can we take these fecking decorations down ?

Pro-tip Meeko: Save time, energy ( yours and the power company's ), touch up redecoration where you've pulled the wallpaper off with sellotape taking a collapsible, crepe-paper Santa down and tedious arguments about whether you have to do the whole 12 days thing it's almost a week into New Year FFS next Xmas by not putting any decorations up at all.
HTH?
My G*d, what a creepy bum lick you are Paddy! You're not meant to like, actually like mods and ops mate, they're the fun police so they are, interfering with all our bestest japes and comedy arguments what with their constant demands that we all behave like grown adults with the manners we were brought up with and what have you, where's the fun in that?
P.S. What Paddy said.
Yup, pretty bloody damp by the looks of things isn't it Stevie. Heavy rain was forecast for tonight again wasn't it, hope things aren't any worse. And ignore my rubbish geography, I'm an idiot. River Yealm's nowhere near the Aveton Gifford tidal road runs along the Avon as your shortcut to St. Ann's Chapel which is where I was thinking of, about 6 or so miles out. All these little mini-estuaries and identical, high-banked mud tracks you guys have down there that you quaintly call 'roads' are easily confused. ;)
Quote by Stevie_and_Kitty
Well we awoke this morning to find my father in law under water as the River Yealm had taken a detour in to his sitting room!
We have visitors coming to stay at our other cottage and found the water had come in above the damp course resulting in some soggy carpets. So it was a hastily made phone call to warn them and then start to lift carpets to dry it all out.

He by the tidal road then Stevie? One big mudflat really when you see it at low tide isn't it but hemmed in just enough to keep the water levels up when it does flood, eh? Let's hope you've all had the worst of it. Bet Modbury has been watching the skies. Only 6 months since they were last flooded out, be pretty harsh getting flooded out all over again almost soon as they'd done the repairs and the painting and replaced everything lost the last time.

So what will you all be up to.

Not much Trev. Recovering from the works Xmas do last night. Didn't have a drop of anything alcoholic, sober as a judge but out till 5am dancing me bollox off in a club I and one of the other lads went to once everyone else had bailed on us ( lightweights! ) then back to mine to crash but no real sleep as yet.
Had planned to do some shopping this afternoon but it suddenly seemed to be the worst idea imaginable! lol Over at mam's tomorrow, my sister, partner and 5 boys arrived up from Bedfordshire this evening so not looking good shopping wise for tomorrow, will be too distracted playing choochy face with my apparently chunky monkey nephews, not seen them since the first week they were allowed home five months ago. So, that leaves me Xmas Eve to find something original and inspired that's perfectly matched to the recipients desires and tastes for four adults and the three older boys. Twins I can get away with not buying for personally this year if push comes to shove but will find something.
I'm well annoyed I am!

You're right to be grumpy grumpy cat. I spent all night freezing my knackers off in a makeshift den in the cellar made from cardboard boxes and an old quilt, surviving only on tins of cold baked beans and cheese strings expecting to emerge yesterday morning to a post-apocalyptic wasteland only to find the world was still here and I was late for bloody work. Stoopid Mayans. :mad:banghead:censored:
Clever people these marketing types, more so than people often give them credit for. Out of the box thinking offering monetisable solutions to a problem most of us didn't know even existed proves once more why these guys get the big money. I mean, be honest, would any of you have come up with this on your own? No, of course not, never even occurred to you. QED!
rolleyes lol
Not sure I grasp the issue? Assuming a phone normally belongs in a pocket or handbag, on those fleeting occasions when it does make an appearance they would barely be long enough for anyone to really register whether it matched a dress, or the handbag it's kept in, or a nice pair of shoes, would they? It would only be an issue if people walked around with their iphones out on permanent display waving them about in everyones faces making the gestural equivalent of 'Oh, look at my shiny new iphone, bestest of all the shiny new fondleslabs', wouldn't it?
Oh no . . . .wait . . . .
Snaring, indiscriminate, may catch fox, badger, cat, or any other animal passing by. A very slow miserable death I would imagine, some chewing there own legs of to ex-scape, and all perfectly legal. You may fool your self into thinking the haunting act is about cruelty but if it was this and many other activity's would have been looked at.

Blue, moving onto other methods of control of the fox population assumes that fox control is a necessary evil in the first place, doesn't it? You know my opinion on this I've stated it many times over. Where is the evidence that control of a self-regulating population is necessary at all? There are good arguments to be made suggesting it's not even required so long as stock is effectively protected and / or loss to predation is factored into production costs as it is with game birds. It may even be counter-productive in the long run so no need to try and distract us with pictures of snared foxes etc to play on our horror of it. You are introducing emotion into a rational argument in doing that, something you often accuse the anti-hunting lobby of doing themselves. You can't have it both ways Blue.
Never mind Essex, never mind. T'was but a throwaway comment on your pretend occasional brusqueness and enjoyment of the odd joke that would cause a sharp intake of breath among the PC brigade on FB but I know that underneath that hard cockernee tinged, bah humbug exterior is a misunderstood pussycat just dying to get out lol
