We don't have quite the same issues that you are experiencing, but Mrs. DP does have a movement disorder that's set off by touch and posture, amongst other things. She shakes quite violently, which is very unpleasant for her and sometimes quite dangerous for me (I've been head butted a few times).
We tried a set of Loving Angles as a way to avoid putting unneccessary strain on Mrs. DP. The theory looked pretty sound, and there were certainly plenty of possible arangements to try, but they were a bit small and not firm enough to cope with <strike>the combined weight of both of us</strike> my lardy arse.
The only other advice I could give is to experiment and find ways to pleasure each other that work given the constraints you're working under. Talk to each other, take things gently, and just enjoy each other.
I'm wary of joining in with this thread, having seen how easily Postie got himself ganged up on.
I do have to ask though, have any of you lot ever played Lunch Money - it's a card game based around playground fighting very similar to what seems to be going on here.

 Are YOU letting the plane take the strain??? ( shocking state of affairs...)
I've done it by train a couple of months ago. Newcastle to Bristol is a five hour journey, not for the faint hearted. Virgin do do cheap first class tickets if you book in advance though, it cost me £30 each way, less than a normal standard class ticket.

The academic term flys by - and there are lots of holidays and semester breaks etc. Its my impression from your post that right now everything is getting a bit much and you're ready for the Xmas break. Spend some quality time with your boy over the holiday - gives you something to look foward to and aim for - and just think, that'll be a whole semester done and dusted! biggrin

Nice idea, but student midwives (or nurses, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, etc, etc) don't get academic holidays, they work full time and as already mentioned do shift work. It's bloody tough, which is why so many people do drop out (well over 30% for nursing courses, according to the last figures I read).
PrincessSwallows - my advice would be to stick with your course if at all possible, as the sooner you get it done the sooner you can get on with being a qualified midwife. Although moving back to your Mum's for a short period of time ('till christmas would make it less than two months) might help in the short term, it would put your studies back by a considerably longer period of time. As Darkfire suggests, the student support people at uni are definitely worth talking to.
Anyway, I hope that whatever you choose you eventually qualify and enjoy your job, just don't ever talk shop in my presence (my mother in law is a midwife and I can pretty much guarantee that ever time we see her I'll hear something that makes me feel queasy).

What's happened to Fluffer? Suddenly stopped posting without warning on Oct 6th.

Fluffer is still around, just taking a bit of a back seat while snowed under with work. Had a pm from her today, and she's tip top.... will be seeing the one-eyed, green headed cheerleader very soon methinks!
Cool, I was hoping something like that would be the case. smile

Rather you than me mate, I've done one return trip by plane since reaching adulthood and decided that cramming myself into an aircraft seat again, especially on a small aircraft, isn't going to happen for anyone.

Only people i hate are these arseholes called the british government. Never voted never will.

Never voted eh? Then stop bloody whining about tax/ immigration/ or whatever other issue you feel peeved about , you decided not to have a voice when you didn't vote.
You've got a right to your opinion, and others have got a right to tell you that you sound ignorant.
What Postie said.
There's a folk song called The Parting Glass that we played at my dad's funeral that generally results in me quietly blubing in the corner. Other songs have done that too, possibly because so much of my early musical tastes were based on what I could nick from his collection, and he had cracking taste in music.

Friday evening....New York....hang out at my favourite haunts.... in greenwich village for a start, head towards Limelight....every american woman in there is hot, and loves the english accent....every bloke i speak to in there is english and has a grin on faces from ear to ear!!!!

I've got a mate who recently moved to Chicago and discovered that. He also appears to have a grin that'll have to be jackhammered off his corpse.
Glad you had a good time mate, and nice to have you back amongst us.
I can't say with any certainty what I'll be doing next April, but I'll check Mrs. DP's course schedule and if that's a weekend she's in Brum I'd head down with here and make the additional trek over to Bristol/Cardiff.
I do know a reasonably cheap venue in central Bristol with a 2am licence, that could certainly hold 100 people, not sure what the exact capacity is. It's not exactly salubrious, but I can let you know the details by PM if you like. They regularly host Goth gigs and similar events so a bunch of SH people is unlikely to appear even vaguely weird.

Accessing the internet via a mobile phone is not cheap! Is this something you really want to do?

I wasn't aware that it was that expensive. All I want to do is be able to pick up my mail when I am on the move. Maybe I should be patient and wait til I get home.
If all you're doing is picking up email then it's unlikely to be that expensive. You probably wouldn't want to spend long browsing the 'net though.
As someone else has suggested, getting a wireless ethernet card (airport on Macs, you may already have it) would allow you to access the 'net via wireless hotspots in Internet cafes, hotels, some trains, etc. Having both would give you the most flexibility.
I'm not sure if your powerbook will have Bluetooth built in to it, if it does then given my experiences with Macs it'll probably set itself up. If not then you'll need a USB Bluetooth dongle - they look like USB memory sticks, cost £10-20 and give your computer the ability to talk to Bluetooth devices.
I have a 3/4 pint mug helpfully labelled 'Tea' in case I forget what should be in it.
I generally just go for the biggest mug I can find, preferably at least a pint as I find smaller ones only hold three or four good mouthfuls of tea.
I've not been recognised so far, but yesterday I spotted a bloke I used to work with posting in LMU. sad

I was just about to post words to that effect. She was down to go to the NE munch with her other half but I don't recall seeing them there.

Looks like it's going to be a good one.
Thought I'd resurrect this thread in order to pick the collective SH brain a bit.
I'm currently planning my first tattoo - I'm torn between a knee to ankle sleeve on my left leg (possibly extending on to my left foot if I'm feeling brave), or an upper arm sleeve on my left arm extending on to the shoulder. Either way it's probably going to be something fairly dark and not too complex, so it shows up through the fur. I'm very tempted by some of the tribal-style stuff I've seen, possibly with a celtic/norse theme.

Cant help ya with local recommendations hun, but in my opinion I'd go for the upper arm sleeve extending to shoulder  - black tribal is always pretty damn sexy on a guy (IMO) - but, the Norse theme sounds good - originality counts wjen it comes to tatts.
Well in the medium to long term I'll probably end up with both, it's more a question of which one to do first. My lower legs are considerably more toned than my upper arms, but they're also a much bigger area to cover.
I'm definitely going to go for an original design, if for no other reason than it's difficult to find ones big enough to work on me. I need to get the books out and start looking for suitable reference material - the Norse theme was suggested by a pic I saw online somewhere of a black tribal-style picture of Odin riding his eight-legged horse. It looked like it'd been lifted from an illustrated saga or something like that and looked damn good.
Whilst originality is good, sometimes copying can also be cool - an archaeologist mate of mine has a copy of the shoulder tattoo found on the body of a northern-european barbarian queen preserved in permafrost (the one that's on Discovery channel a lot).

OK who's going to be the first to do a "road test"

wouldn't it be great if we could have some thing connected like that in the cafe...and every time you get a pm or tread you get a vib........mmm nice...........we all could have a mass orgy sort of thing! :bounce:
It could be done, but it'd probably require some reasonably serious coding to implement. You'd need one of these, and a bluetootth dongle for the PC. Theoretically it could also be set up so that every time the chatroom goes ping it goes off

At the moment I'm still working on a final design, I may ask my little sister for assistance, after all her degree in Fine Art has to be useful for something. I also need to find a good local tattoo artist. Recommendations by PM are most welcome, if I don't find anywhere I'm comfortable with locally I'll go to see an old aquaintance in Brum, but that's a bit of a trek considering I'll probably need two or three sessions to get it finished.

Starship Troopers rolleyes

Starship Troopers is a great film, it took me two or three viewings to actually get what the writers and director were trying to say.
Try and get the original book - it is a sci-fi classic by Robert Heinlein. The film is quite true to the chronology of the book, but treats the subject matter in a less serious and cursory style.
If you liked the film, you'll enjoy the book.
But the red-haired girl trooper who gets disembowelled by the Bug Warrior and dies on the shuttle - she's my dream girl (obviously with all her guts in the right places) so if there's anyone out there who's female and looks like that, please send me a PM!!!!
I've been looking out for a copy for quite a while, as I'm a fan of old sci-fi.
Whilst on the subject of old sci-fi, I feel the need to mention The Day the Earth Stood Still . Not a B-movie in it's time, but I remember it being on TV when I was young and being terrified of the bloody robot.

For me its gotta be the nightmear on elm street films...how bad was they? lol

Err it was a good film
Not sure it would be classed as a b movie, butthe entire dusk till dawn series..... gd what tripe... but ya couldn't turn away frm the screen lol
I tried watching them once, fell asleep halfway through the second one. Starship Troopers also has a straight-to-video sequel, but I haven't been bored/desperate enough to watch it yet.

Well I was going to say Tremors, but since that's already been mentioned I'd have to go with Bad Taste (Peter Jackson's first film).

Actually, looking at an article in the Independant, make sure the ring gets thrown at YOU, then take it and sell it.
Gold = $450 an ounce.
Now let me see, there is mine, mine that got too small for me, hers .... thats about £800 lol

Unfortunately that's the price of pure gold. 9ct gold used for wedding rings is only 9/24 gold, I'm not sure what the rest is, probably copper and silver.

and Newcastle is on the way to Scotland.. isn't it??? Hmmmmmm..... I have a plan forming here.....

I should have mentioned it earlier, but if you do want to stop off on the way there or back then feel free to drop in.

given that this happens with a number of other, closely related species (horses and donkeys, lions and tigers) I can see where you're coming from, but humans and chimps is one that isn't possible, at least I've never heard of it happening.

maybe he should have to wait on the NHS like the rest of us for his next one.

Actually he did wait in the queue for his donor liver, as buying and selling organs is illegal in the UK, and he had to be dry for a full year before they'd consider him a suitable candidate for a transplant. It does sound from the news reports like his donor liver is struggling, but he's far too ill to be a suitable candidate for a second transplant, so the issue won't arise.
As for his well reported drinking after his transplant, there were only a couple of episodes that have been seized on by the tabloid media. Although it is certainly inadvisable for him to drink any amount of alcohol, he's an alcoholic, and fell off the wagon. The fact that he's lived so long is an indication that even if he's relapsed a couple of times, mostly he's stayed off the booze. His current problem is that the anti-rejection drugs he's been taking work by suppressing the immune system, leaving him vulnerable to infections that healthy people would hardly notice or not get in the first place.

there a few thousand men chefs and a dozen super uber chefs
what about the other 23 million of us ?

Get Delia Smith's How to Cook books, read, practice and understand.
Then start working your way through other food authors looking for ideas and inspiration. My culinary influences would probably include (in no particular order):
Madhur Jaffrey
Ken Hom (if you can find a copy 'Cheap Chow' is a great cook book)
Hugh Fernley-Whitingstall
Rick Stein
Jamie Oliver (not often, but occasionally he does something I think is really cool)
Start with something simple, extend your repertoire as you gain confidence and experience, and don't be afraid to experiment (within reason).
I don't particularly mind penny for the guy in the week or so before bonfire night, but only if they've made a guy and are reasonably polite. I never did it myself, though I do remember a number of guys being consigned to the bonfire over the years, several of actually being Maggie Thatcher in effigy.
It's a pity we don't live anywhere with enough room for a bonfire, as I quite fancy the idea of burning Blair and Bush in effigy.
I smoke, but rarely go into pubs anyway since I don't often drink (I had more to drink at the NE munch than I'd had in about the previous two years put together). Ironically, most of the time if I'm going to a pub it's to have a meal, so I suppose I'll be stood outside in the cold having my post-prandial roll up.
I'd have more sympathy for any sort of ban if the scientific body of evidence related to the dangers of smoking could be said to be unbiased and representative. Unfortunately over the past 15 years there has been a huge bias in the funding and reporting of research against anything that says anything other than the medical profession's party line that smoking is really bad and causes pretty much everything that could go wrong with you.
As it is, I feel like I'm being picked on as an easy target for politicians and health campaigners who're too scared to actually tackle problems that might make a real difference to people's health - like industrial and transport pollution, poor housing, poverty, etc. I don't like being picked on and fed propaganda, and thus have no intention of giving up.
