To jump back to topic, I saw the program and my thoughts are;
If Richard Branson was doing a program about our dept and how we got into it and how to get out of it, I'd take lots of notice as he is a successful businessman. But for a film-maker / economist to spout off.................I'll have an extra-large potion of salt with that please !!
John
I do understand your point, and will agree you make a valid point. But I can only say the way I feel.
I will try to explain my thoughts in a more clear way. If you have strong thoughts on an issue weather that be for it or against it, a few people who upset the apple cart will not effect your strong views. However there will be millions of people who may not fall in either camp, or just do not care either way.
These people will see bad behaviour and make up their minds over the media storm rather than the real issues that will be important to those who marched/protested peacefully.
I look back at the minors strike in the 80s and for many who did not live in mining areas and had to listen to the constant reports of violence and rioting, we soon lost sympathy for them.
When I was marching and campaigning for hunting I was very aware that those who fully support or fully appose hunting will never have their views changed no matter how much you debate with them, the people you are aiming at are the ones who have not made up their mind yet. For that reason I felt behaviour and first impressions are paramount.
In my view public support is the all important edge you require, I feel if you do not have this no one in power will ever listen. To gain and keep that support, good behaviour is a must.

Then as a Hunt supporter, did you change your mind and stop supporting Hunting with foxes after the incident shown below?
15 September 2004: Ferry and seven other pro-hunting protesters illegally entered the House of Commons Chamber in protest at anti-hunting legislation. After the protest, armed police were temporarily placed at all entrances to the chamber — the first time MPs have had such a guard. After a short adjournment, the House then went on to approve the Bill by a majority of 356 to 166. All eight (Ferry, 22, Shrewsbury; Luke Tomlinson, 27, Gloucestershire; David Redvers, 34, Gloucestershire; Richard Wakeham, 36, York; Nicholas Wood, 41, Wiltshire; John Holiday, 37, Herefordshire; Robert Thame, 35, Berkshire and Andrew Elliot, 42, Herefordshire) were convicted of offences under the Public Order Act 1986 and each fined £350 and given 18-month conditional discharges.
As Neil has said, just about every major change in human history had some degree of violence attached to it. I'd say it's because of human nature that the violence occurs and as human nature is very difficult to alter then I'd say the pattern will stay the same.
John
Down the ages many protests have turned violent, but once the change has come about people forget the violence.
For instance "Votes for Women", there was a lot of damage done to property by the largely middle class women wanting the right to vote. Apparently over one night the Suffragettes broke every window in every shop in Oxford street and set fire to the post boxes and in the context of the time was probably more outrageous that the recent events.

This is somewhere we'd though about trying late March, what would the weather be like at that time?

I still do not agree, As far as I am concerned if you wish to have a better education you should pay for it, not me!

Then of course you'll be against the Charitable Status of Public Schools such as Eton. After all if the rich get tax help to educate their offspring it comes out of our taxes indirectly. Ask just about any member of the Cabinet if they think the Public School system has any advantages !!
John
The cynical amoungst us might speculate that it suited "Our Rulers" very well that the Student protests turned violent. It diverted attention very well from the main arguement.
One might wonder who the "Rent-a-mob" were actually rented from? It only take a few people to start a "mob mentality" going.

Robbie....I would say no again...by allowing a male and female in together.....the owner is keeping the ratio okay. Normal nighclubs already do this now. Ask any doorman....all clubs have a policy. It may be unoffical, but everyone knows it exists. What the club can not do would be to charge differant.

Would appear that i have failed to understand the new law
"The Equality Act 2010 requires private members’ clubs to act in a non-discriminatory means that clubs will no longer be able to restrict access to activities or benefits, or apply different conditions and fees for membership on the basis of any of the protected characteristics. In addition, the Government is considering how the part of the Act providing additional protection from age discrimination can be implemented in the best way for business, and will make an announcement in due course."
Restrict access is not allowing them in as well as charging all the same price.
So denying access on the grounds (your single) is discriminatory.
The law only applies to private members clubs.
(A private club is an organisation with 25 or more members whose membership is controlled by rules involving a selection process.),
So really shouldnt affect swingers clubs anyway.
Being 'single' is not a 'protected characteristic'Robbo so it would not be unlawfully discriminatory to deny access on those grounds. As long as Deans ratios were adhered to clubs would be acting within the law. And just to reiterate an earlier point, I believe clubs could charge couples whatever they wanted against what they charged single males and females. In the same way that you can buy family tickets for other entertainment you could have a combined price for a club. It would not be unlawfully discriminatory as being single is not a protected characteristic.
It is my understanding that swingers clubs are predominantly private clubs with a controlled membership etc.
If the red bit above is true then why not charge ANY singles, male or female, the higher price which currently pertains to single guys. Couples prices stay as they are.
However, whenever a single female arrives she is notionally "coupled" with a single guy and they then get charged a couples rate.
IE, if at a club couples are charged 20 quid to get in. Joe is first single guy in, he pays 50 quid to get in, 5 more single guys arrive who each pay 50 quid, then Anne arrives, she is charged half the couples entry fee and then Joe gets a refund of 40 quid. Making his entry 10 quid same as Anne.
So therefore the discrimination is about being single (not protected) rather than gender and the club sees little or no difference in revenue.

At least he kept us out of Vietham..........Maggie, Tony and probably even Gordon, not forgeting David, would most likely have been very happy to "help out our great friends the USA".

This bit:
"I suppose some people would be happy to throw taxpayers money at industries that are going down the toilet, just to save the jobs."
The banking industry, anyone?

Just loved the above..........How can any Tory answer that ??
I never suffered under Thatcher, but I personally know plenty who did and the fact that young people in the NE are shovelling chips in Macdonalds instead of building ships in Swanns says it all to me.
Thatcher was never a great PM, I'd have said Harold Wilson was much better.
John
Also, the expression "getting off at Gateshead" refers to pulling out just before you come.
The convo could be;
Woman; "don't come in me, I'm not on the pill"
Man; "don't worry I'll get off at Gateshead". Probably lying thro his teeth btw.
Dates back to the railway line from Sunderland to Newcastle (now superceded by the Metro), Gateshead is the last stop before Newcastle and most people would not want to get off there !!

how many single men would actually take any action on this as most are married and go to clubs on the quiet and wouldnt want the wife to find out?

Individuals have gone to court on much worse imao. If a club was breaking the law the relevant authorities would be taking them to court anyhow.
I know of at least two clubs which have indoor smoking areas, relevant authorities haven't stopped that.
John
No hospital parking fees in Scotland or Wales I think.
No University tution fees in Scotland.
Hey Alex Salmond, hurry up and get an independant Scotland then us in the far Northern Counties of England who are going to be screwed the most by the Condems can vote to leave England and join Scotland !!

Thanks for the hospitality Ann and Mitch, hope the neighboughs are speaking to you this morning.

In a lot of the threads in here there are claim and counter claim about how much the previous Labour Gov. spent, or overspent, and the resulting huge dept now owed by this Country.
So a couple of questions, hopefully some clever people on here can answer them;
1, If this Country and most of Europe and America have such huge debts, who was rich enough to lend us / them those massive amounts of money.
2, How big would the UK debt have been / what would be the state of the nations finances, if the banking crisis hadn't happened. ie if the bankers had got it right instead of getting it wrong and needing umpteen billions to bail them out.
John
On the J.V. show today, they were discussing the ending of the Child Benefit for anyone who is a top rate tax payer. Quite a few people rang in who had one of the parents earning that amount while the second parent earned nothing or very little. Hence they would be down a fair amount of cash compared to a family with two workers each earning just under 44K.
One thing J.V. never asked........who did you vote for then ??? Bet a fair few of these "midlle class" voted Tory !!!
It's only the start folks..............
John
Bet some of the new Tory "Free" or "Independant school jump on that bandwagon, big time. One of these new schools has reportedly already said that they don't see the need to have fully qualified teachers to teach the children !!

Worth using savings to pay off debts.
But won't be going out to spend my hard earned savings just cos some B(W)anker says so !!!
John
Heard this on J.V. radio 2 show. One woman rang up and said that it was a good idea to stop them selling / giving away the home made cakes as she has an allergy to some forms of butter......It appears to me that if she suffers from such an allergy it might be a good idea for her NOT to buy cakes etc where she does not know all the ingredients. But others should NOT be prevented from buying cakes.
Maybe potential cake eaters could sign a form saying they are aware of the potential risks of eating cakes (including weight gain) and that they are willing to accept the horrendous risks.
John
It's been done on a few occasions I believe, think they usually went well.
People tend to like a "special" weekend, say 60s or 70s or disco.
Why not pick a date / place and see if there is any interest?

While everyone is looking at the problem Swingers clubs may have, there is also the question of Gay / Lesbian clubs or saunas. How will they be affected ? Also, several swingers clubs also advertise Gay / Lesbian / Bi-sexual days or nights.
I think Councils will be more reticent to take action which may affect G/L rights or activities. Maybe for no other reason that G/L are more vocal in protecting their hard won rights.
All the arguments which are pertainent to swingers clubs and parties are surely the same as to G/L clubs and parties..........sex, drinking, dancing, singing etc.

Funny there wasn't any bashing when our politicians agreed to 'bail out' the banks?
How can you bash someone you owe 6.5 to?
They work together & everything else in Pantomime for the public.
They have made debt slaves of our children & grand children & fools of all of us for allowing it.
How better way to control a nation than by getting them in debt.
The money system is a rigged poker game designed to get us into debt.

We are being scammed...

WOW !!! Learned a lot, long video, but well worth watching.

As many have said, Ed, fits right into the Cam - Clegg mould. Will his policies be any better than the ConDems, don't know? But I'd suggest that after the next 3 years, if the ConDems last that long, Labour will be miles ahead in the opinion polls.
John
Nothing will happen, don't worry ! The town makes too much money from the swingers !
The price of property has rocked recently, who would risk that by leaving half the site empty if the swingers were banned.
We'll be back there again next year !! Roll on !!

I'd bet that enterprising people, both within and without the swinging scene, will find so many loopholes that the laws will be rarely, if ever, enforced.

One thing I've never heard mentioned in the media or by the World's leaders, is the Pakistani Nuclear Weapons.
The following idea has been kicked around at work a lot and if we can think of it why has no-one else?
Obviously Pakistan is in a desperate state with the floods and is appealing for monetary help from the rest of the World.
They also have Nuclear weapons which the Americans are worried will fall into the hands of terrorists.
Could the Pakistanis not therefore sell their Nuclear weapons to the USA? I'd guess the USA would be willing to pay several billions of dollars to remove the chance of them falling into the wrong hands.
Think of the kudos and good will which would go to Pakistan if they did this.
Of course they would have to agree to allow UN inspectors in to verify and India would have to give guarantees that they would not use their Nuclear weapons against a disarmed Pakistan.
An analogy would be if my house had a very damaging flood, I had no house insurance but had a Bentley tucked away in the garage. If my house was wrecked by floods I could ask friends and workmates for donations to help. But if they found out I had a Bentley which I didn't want to sell.............guess they would be less likely to help !!
If however, the above idea has been thought of and the Pakistanis think more of keeping their weapons than selling them to help their own people then it may explain why there has not been a greater level of donations.
